[5.9/10] There are 2 things that will bring a season down: A bad cast and a bad format.
This season has both.
In my opinion, Bloodlines has the worst cast in the history of The Challenge. Most of the relatives that were casted were duds who were never casted again like Anthony, Emily, Jill, Larissa, Rianna, and Stephen.
And then production casted Bananas’s weird cousin, Vince, who was making the women feel uncomfortable. Fun fact: Nicole Ramos (Nany’s cousin) is the only bloodline that did at least 2 more seasons after this. That should tell you how bad the casting was this season. Fresh Meat this is not. Abram makes an appearance as a replacement about halfway through, and even he couldn’t save that mess.
Oh, and the format...I strongly dislike seasons with mixed genders because it gives certain pairs advantages and disadvantages. The eliminations this season would alternate between male only and female only, so if a player were apart of a male/female pair, they were always at risk of facing elimination each episode. Also, the duos wouldn’t compete as pairs, only one would. Just imagine Aneesa’s game being in the hands of Rianna, whose upper body strength was so bad that she couldn’t move across monkey bars.
Then, production did a dumb twist later where they split everyone into 2 teams, but they were still tied to their partner. There would be scenarios where people would realistically win a daily and still could be at risk of going home if their partner was voted into elimination on the other team that lost. Operation: Throw That Comp was common this season because certain pairs would be safe depending on who was eligible for elimination. Not ideal.
The final...oh man this final sucked. Remember when I said mixed genders is a bad casting decision? Well, let’s throw on weighted backpacks that are heavier for the men, which automatically puts a male/male pair at a disadvantage over a female/female pair. I’m not a big fan of added weight on finals.
