I was glad to see that Tiffany Smith made an appearance on the show I’m so happy for her.
Another nice mix of humor and story advancement, and Ketch with Dean should be an interesting combination on the other side of the rift. Beyond that, I'm pretty sure that the folks behind THE STRAIN want their special effects back.
FINALLY back to the storyline!! Not Great, Not Bad....... But SOOO much better than last weeks episode!!!!!!!!!
Um... I feel very uncomfortable with the monster... Hentai?
Surprisingly a good old times monster of the week episode.
It was a wonderful episode!! This gonna be GREAT!!!

After last week's Scooby-Doo crossover, I didn't expect this to get so serious so soon. I didn't expect that ending. I was like "wtf? They opened the rift so soon? With like 6 episodes left?" However, it implies seeing more of Jack and I love that kid, so I'm cool with that, but shit is gonna go down fast.
I've got to say it, I'm loving this season a lot. Each episode has had something that has made me fall in love with it. Part of the secret has go do with the writer's tendency to these hybrid episodes. It's not all about chasing down a monster in a classic MoTW episode, or developing this season's mytharc. It's sort of like a combination of both. This way, none of them feel like a filler and all of them provide depth into the story.
Now, that said, this episode was brought to you by BAD DECISIONS. 13 seasons in and they still make the same freaking mistakes. Sometimes it feels like a dejá vu.
Bad decision #1. Arriving at one of the MoL's outposts looking for the Seal of Solomon and discovering a 100+ year old girl tied up, and more importantly, alive, should at least have raised suspicion. It was so godamn predictable that she was the monster. But, instead of questioning her within the bunker, they just do the tests, let her out and ask questions only at the diner. And on top of that, they let her out of their sight. She's literally been chained for hundreds of years, and yet she's still alive. That's anything but natural. I get why they did it and that she would've lied anyway, but they should've known better.
Bad decision #2. Rushing into things without any plans or backup. When you open the rift to another world, you don't go there alone, not to mention with Ketch. They even said it last episode, splitting up is not a good idea and it's only gonna make things worse. Not only was this bad, but also going through the rift without waiting (or asking) for Cas, who suddenly disappeared. I get that Misha can't be in every episode, but why wasn't Cas even mentioned once? And on top of that, Dean went through the rift without even waiting to see if Gabriel had anything to say. I mean, Sam even unstitched his mouth and he didn't say a word. I'm still positive that this is our Gabriel but maybe, just maybe, he could be from this other earth so he could've had something important to say, although he seems traumatized as hell. Again, I can get why he did that, but things are gonna go awry real soon. Dean going solo can only mean that Michael is gonna take him as a vessel soon.
Bad decision #3. This one dealing with Ketch. He dared to sass Asmodeus. That's definitely a mustn't. He's powerful enough to break every single bone in your body without breaking a sweat and yet, Ketch decided to sass him. Very wise!
Speaking of Asmodeus, he seemed really menacing and that makes me happy because that's probably the only competent demon there is. A couple of minutes later, my thoughts about his competence got subverted. How could it be so easy for Ketch to free Gabriel, take his stash of grace along with the archangel blade and just leave? And most importantly, why did Asmodeus leave Ketch alone in that room after beating him up? That's making me think he did it on purpose. That or he's a complete idiot, or he was too high on archangel grace. And he was seriously injecting Gabe's grace as if it were heroin. Sometimes people's actions astonish me.
That said. I really enjoyed the episode. A lot of things happened in just 42 minutes. Men of Letters, new lore, a sort of Lovecraftian monster and poor sweet Gabriel. My heart broke in pieces when I saw Gabriel being afraid. The writers are toying with us. I guess we won't know whether that's our Gabriel or an alternate one until next episode. I'm so glad he's back, but seeing him like that only makes me want to hug him.
After today's events, I get that Ketch can be trusted, only because he was reminded of the code and he knows what he stands for. However, I'm still skeptical about him and I wonder how Mary will react when she sees him. A freaky thought came to me when Ketch appeared in the bunker. After his easy escape, I thought it could even be Asmodeous who had used his shape shifting abilities to look like Ketch, but maybe I'm overthinking it.
I loved Dean's one liners. He always makes me laugh when I need it the most. I don't want him to stop saying "Jinkies", lol. I love that he's still goofy about Scooby-Doo. And I do want his post-its. That was an incredible adherence they had. Mines don't even stick on.
I also loved how chill he was when he was about to be inhabited by an interdimensional tentacle monster. "Oh my God! That's tragic", lol.
"It's like a Hallmark movie...with tentacles", lol, Dean. That and his sarcastic "Oh, great! More books!" were my favourites. Very The Strain like.
When that girl said "She got food in her belly" twice, I just couldn't help but laugh for some reason.
