Season 3 is like 1 long epic Star Trek movie. And then like... the best ST movie ever made.
Only watching this till we get Strange New Worlds back. It seems that we are in another mirror universe, but this time with a writer's strike as we board the U.S.S. Nostalgia.
Season 1 was a sheet of used toilet paper…
Season 2 was a whole roll of used toilet paper…
Season 3 a pure golden nugget, made for the true fans, filled with memories and fan service of the right kind…..
Season 3 = Star Trek the Next Generation Season 8! Wow this was an outstanding season, and a perfect cap to the STTNG fans out there, I loved it so much that I binged the entire season in a couple of evenings. My wife found out about the extension of STTNG and wanted to watch it with me, so I queued up all of the pertinent episodes from Next Generation as a lead into Picard season 3 as a perfect way to round everything out and it's a great experience.
Even though the Next Gen cast are all in their 70's+, you almost totally forget that in this season. Even Picard is more vibrant than he was in seasons 1 and 2 and Riker doesn't look like he's changed at all, with the exception of the gray.
And much to my surprise and pleasure, they didn't continue the 7 of 9 lesbian arc, I figured it might get most of the attention since they decided to go that route, but instead they did what they should always do: entertain and not preach their agenda. I could, literally, delete seasons 1 and 2 of Picard and just keep season 3 as a STTNG season 8.
If you are a next generation fan then you'll absolutely LOVE this season. It's got vibrant Picard, tough Riker, a toned down Troy, a silly chunky Data with a convenient excuse why an ageless android is old and fat now, a better Worf than the original, an over plasticized Crusher and BORG! It's a perfect ending.
I will not accept any additional season influencing my personal health and emotional state. Sorry, Beverly.
This is not a show. It's a Star Trek reunion. Mostly fan service. Nostalgia over a coherent story. Action over witty philosophy. Artificial mysteries designed to create cliffhangers. Totally unconnected to the previous seasons. And still it's the best season of this overall disappointing show.
100% squeezed nostalgia. I hate that I loved it. I wish they brought back the episodic style star-trek all this new series are taking an entire season to develop what used to be a 30min episode. I know it is hard with all the high production level these days. But i would be willing to compromise on CGI and fancy camera work and props in exchange for an episodic format again.
Hearing the TNG soundtrack again in juxtaposition with the new ones immediately shows you how there has never been or will ever be a better soundtrack for StarTrek. This sound embodies the spirit of the franchise and truly transports you to the final frontier and inspire you to go where no one has gone before.
WOW! Season 3 was absolutely amazing!
First off - it was unlike seasons 1&2. It was much more like season 8 of Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987).
A marked improvement over seasons 1 and 2, but it still has shallow plot that's missing the thought and emotion of earlier Star Trek. The season is also filled with "memberberries" that try to invoke nostalgia to make up for a lack of storytelling.
Terrible writing, yes. But worth watching for the cast.
I thoroughly enjoyed "Star Trek Picard"! I am elated to have seen all the Actors and thier Characters farewell? Series!
Star Trek - The Botox and Geriatric Adventures
Episode 1-5 - Pretty good. Glad I returned after stopped watching in season 1 (episode 3 or 4) - 8/10
Episode 6 & 7: What the hell is this mess? The gang are all back together - anyone missing yet? - 3/10
Episode 8 - 10: Well it's all wrapped up, so that's good. 4/10
Yes, this season is much better than season 2. The story is better paced, the TNG-feeling is back, there's fanservice all around including that to die for ending... still, that can't hide the holes in the plot.
Why concentrate on Vadic and the changelings for 8 episodes and then rush the real problem and its solution? Why not use a TNG-original foe like the aliens from Conspiracy for the "aliens take over Starfleet"-trope which becomes pretty much unimportant later on anyway? Why set up such a catastrophic situation when in the end it doesn't really feel like it has any consequences? The whole plot felt like a vehicle for the interaction of the characters, and yes, let's bring back everyone, no matter if it makes any sense. Of course, I smiled at every reference, at every guest appearance, but don't start pondering the plot.
But whether or not the plot withstands any prodding... it's the lack of cohesion within the series that bothers me. I mean, this is season 3, and except for Picard having an android body, there are virtually no references to seasons 1 and 2. Essentially, this is a standalone series. But then again, in the end it's about the Borg, but where's Agnes who had centuries to rebuild the Borg (remember she travelled back to our time the long way, not via Q-intervention) and applied for membership as Borgqueen at the end of season 2? So, how is it possible that alle the events with the Borg that are alluded to here, even happened in this 'verse? Picard might have the memories, but Agnes changed things - so is there even a FC-borgqueen left? And where is the young Romulan whose death Raffi was so hung up about in season 2?
Of course, in the end what counts is that this season felt like TNG. Riker and Picard were fantastic, loved their dynamics, loved Worf and Raffi, Seven fit in well, I could even see a spin-off with Jack... but I think Picard's time's over... unless they bring another season just about the crew playing cards. I'd watch it.
How do we get a season like this, which does have its ups and downs, and Season 2 was a complete dumpster fire!?
Compared to the other seasons (first one was awful, second I stopped watching after episode 5) this is brilliant. Compared to actual good shows this is alright.
A lot of nostalgia helps, the first 4 episodes were the best this show ever was. The mystery is kind of meh, but at least it all makes sense. It has a few clever science-y ideas. The narrative made sense. Really loved the old crew. The new characters are alright.
Had a nice ending but STOP RUINING YOUR ENDINGS WITH TEASING OF OTHER POTENTIAL SPIN OFFS!!
The show was awesome, even it it had no Star Trek vision in it, up until the Borg showed up. Then it turned very bad with a a slightly better final episode. What happened to the Borg from season 2? What´s with all the family talk? Is Vin Diesel producing this?
Whatever. Engage.
It is looking a bit tired now. The first two seasons were probably enough, but some swansong ensemble was desired. Jack Crusher character makes me feel violent. Hoping he dies, although I expect Paramount has plans on spinning off a series based on him, as he is young and Shatnery. I can always wrap myself up in my ST boxsets and Strange New Worlds comfort blankey. Worf and Geordi look like a pair of prophets in one of those excruciating Christian dramas on the artwork.

Not even Seven’s awesomeness is enough to salvage this writing. But, of course, I am at fault here since people seem to like it. Good luck have fun to anyone who is able to enjoy it. I for one give up.
