This is my game face and the game is on!
Holy sheet! The last fifteen minutes went and ripped my heart to shreds for a multitude of reasons and I don't know if I'll recover.
lmao i cant believe yall are mad because "john is out of character" or "john would never yell at sherlock" like k thanks for making john's character so insignificant and simple. obviously we havent been watching the same show
Well that was the Worst episode yet.
" Just so many eye-roll inducing moments, from various causes.
John's affair with the train lady out of fucking nowhere, the ludicrous amount of flashbacks, absolutely stupid fight scene and dialogue between AJ and Sherlock, Mary finding Sherlock waiting for her (seriously who didn't see that coming), Sherlock and Mary failing to spot a gun in the hand of an elderly woman, backstory about AGRA that no one gave a flying fuck about. "
Three years waiting and it's finally here. I'm gonna skip the hatred and see the bigger picture. It was a means to an end. It might seem they're jumping the shark, but they're just getting started.
I dislike the whole "Mary is a secret assassin" storyline but somehow I feel like that story hasn't ended, despite of her death. This episode was just made to kill her and set everything in motion. I find her backstory really boring. I love Sherlock for Sherlock and Watson. I never really cared for Mary, except for what her lost would do to Watson. That "go to hell, Sherlock" was rather unexpected. I think she meant to go to that hell he's going through and grip him from perdition, thus saving him from his fate.
He really seemed out of character. First, he flirts with that bus lady and then he's mad at Sherlock. He made a vow to protect her but she jumped in front of the bullet. And John bewailing was one of those choices that say a lot. Martin Freeman went for it, and even though it sounded like coming from one of the fish from the aquarium, it made her death even harder to swallow.
And the humour itself, it was brilliant, as well as the camera transitions. And I really loved the guiding thread: appointment in Samarra. That was brilliant. The moment I heard it at the very beginning I was thrilled. I love it.
I can't say I'm happy Mary died, but I'm not sad either. Her plot was almost over last season and I knew this was coming. And that creepy bus lady. I guess she's tied to Moriarty somehow, or to Toby Jones' character. Speaking of which, nice foreshadowing having him in a poster at the bus stop. And at the bottom it said "it's murder". I'm excited to see his links to Moriarty.
Tobby will become a regular character. And that Sherrinford reference and the sticky note. maybe he'll appear in ep 13th.
All in all, this episode took the bullet for the rest of the season. They wrote out Mary to focus on Sherlock and Watson. I see the bigger dark picture ahead.
One of the best Sherlock episodes, it had everything, completely loved it!
Honestly, this show can just leave for 3 whole years ... and I'm still waiting on the edge of my seat for it to return. And it's so worth it, every single time.
Feels like they got rid of Mary just because (((?)))
Like wtf
okay, john basically implying that he'd rather have sherlock dead instead of marry (that was the only way for him to keep his vow in those circumstances, wasn't it?) and then throwing him out of his life is pretty shitty. but also unquestionably human. he's flawed, he's grieving, he needs to blame someone and on top of that he's feeling guilty about cheating/considering to cheat. that part, the whole infidelity side story, i found pretty odd, actually. i wish they would have shown us that john and marry' marriage was on the rocks, or something less dramatic, a couple of exhaustion induced arguments and maybe some post-tension in the aftermath of what had happened in the previous season, just something, anything to justify him wanting to at least emotionally (which, in my opinion, is worse than if it was simply carnal) connect with another woman, anything but the obvious fact that he found her attractive and she made the first move. come on. i expect more from this show. otherwise, an enjoyable episode.
finally, the show is coming back!
It really does take me several rewatches to appreciate a Sherlock episode. It's my first time seeing this, and I don't like it too much. It feels too over the place.
Honestly, watching John contemplate and decide to flirt with another woman hurt me more than anything in this entire series. Even more so than watching John grieve for the second or third time, and Mary die- and I really love her character and what she added to the existing dynamics in the series. I cannot begin to understand why Mary, a wife and a MOTHER who seems to finally be living the life she has always dreamt of, would decide to sacrifice her life for this pompous asshole, who can easily be replaced. They should have had her die some other way.
HMMM THE LAST FEW MINUTES WERE BAD AND DUMB!
So I actually love Mary, I think she is the second most interesting character (the first is Sherlock or Ms Hudson, depending on my mood) HOWEVER I think the whole marriage/baby situation was too much too soon, like this is a show about the detective sherlock and his sidekick watson and together they solve crimes and there’s only 13 episodes total and 5 have been about or with Mary (the marriage and the baby) and I assume the next and last two are gonna be about it too, like I get this tragedy gives depth to the characters and motivates them and whatever but I feel like it wasn’t needed and again don’t get me wrong, I love Mary and honestly she had better chemistry with Sherlock than S with John, from the start she should’ve been the Watson or be a recurring character like Molly or detective Lastrade because their marriage ruined everything... which gets me to my next point
FCK U JOHN WATSON! As if he wasn’t useless enough he has the nerve to CHEAT! And maybe some will say that texting isn’t cheating but it was all about his intention, he knew what he was doing! Plus he was married and with a newborn. I hope that that E girl is evil so he can get what he deserves! Horrible pathetic useless man.
And then WHAT’S THE DEAL WITH THAT DEATH?? a room full of police officers, detectives, a former assassin, and the two most clever men in the world (supposedly) and they just let the villain keep her gun and they all chill in there while she’s holding it??? And then she died in seconds, I mean I’m no expert but my common sense tells me that it takes a few minutes to bleed out and it could help if you have a doctor next to you that could slow the bleeding, Sherlock got shot in almost the same place and he survived but Mary couldn’t? SO DUMB! I guess I don’t oppose a tragic death when it helps the story move forward but I’m against doing something so stupidly, and the worst part is that they catch the bad guy already so it’s not even about creating a last villain, that story is over and it’s just about a grieving watson and a motherless baby.
This episode has a lot of "hard to buy" moments, hardly a favorite. The one thing that I can't deal with is John's infidelity. I mean... we KNOW he's not like that.
Probably the one thing I like here is the end of the whole Mary plot. I know it doesn't reflect very well on Sherlock and John's dinamics, but it was so damn necessary. I don't like her. Didn't like her since day one. She needed to GO, sorry John.
P.S.: Martin Freeman is SO HOT it gets a little disturbing.
The main intrigue was disappointing. It's still well done, well played and all, of course, the show's and characters' typical style is still there which gives great sequences. The multi crimes solving via phone, or Are you tweeting ? in the middle of the briefing and Mycroft handling Sherlcok like a child. That's still the foundation of the show, and it's still there. The It looks fully functioning remark was even better.
The initial case with the dead guy hidden in the seat was pretty good too.
And then came the main story. Somebody's going around crushing identical busts ? Well of course they're looking for something inside, no need to be Sherlock for that. Also a lot centered on Mary's past. Did anybody ever cared for Mary ? I always found her story boring. She won't be missed.. It brought some nice shooting scenes though, and Jason Bourne style fighting from Sherlock that was impressive.
Ending sequence was supposed to be emotional I guess, but I like I said, I never really cared for Mary so.... Also that it could happen is utterly ridiculous. All these cops there, plus Mycroft and Sherlock with their legendary observation skills, plus Mary, a barely retired super agent, and with all those, NOBODY saw the old lady reach for a gun in her purse ??? Really ? Whereas it's painfully emphasized for the viewer, you'd be blind not to see it. That was a real let down from every character's part.
I always thought Mary was rather boring and turning her into a spy seemed so over the top, but it seemed to be part of her past, so I thought I could get over it. But this episode... They added Mary, John married her, they got a child and then she died. It didn't even feel fleshed out. It felt extremely rushed and absolutely unnecessary. I would just like to ignore that all this even happened.
And Moriarty... Let me say first that I really, really enjoyed Moriarty, but they killed him off. It's okay if Sherlock thinks about him from time to time, but he's dead and there can be more than one great villain. It feels like Batman and the Joker - Every Batman merchandise is throwing the Joker in your face and it just gets annoying at some point because there are other villains. You don't need to use the same one over and over again.
I was a big fan of this show during season 1 and season 2, but at some point I read way too many good fanmade stories/theories and the actual show will never be able to catch up with it. And the long waiting between each season is not helpful at all because people change, their tastes change and they stop caring about shows if there's no update for years.
I'll continue watching it, but it's more of a habit than actual excitement. They might be able to produce a few really good episodes, but I know I'll never feel the same love I used to have for this show which is a shame because it had great potential :/
The series lost itself in season 3 and is never getting that spark back. Will keep watching out of habit, but... meh.
IMO it was still good TV, but nowhere near the level of the S1 and S2 Sherlock episodes.
Somebody must have mixed the James Bond, Jason Bourne and Sherlock scripts... But the result is awesome :-)
Only good thing in this episode was mentioning my hometown :D
Well, I really wanted to like this.. but man oh man this is a jumbled mess of a story line. Hopefully it purposely like that so the next 2 episodes of this season's canon come together in typical fashion.
I was so expecting Watson to yell "KHHHAAAAAANNNNN!!!!", but that would have been too over the top.
That was a jumbled mess until the last heartbreaking 15 minutes.
why was this so disappointing
this episode was very crappy
Today is the day! I've waited years for this. Literally. I'm so excited and nervous, but mostly excited.
I didn't see that coming
Its not a spoiler to be blown here
Hah, I had forgotten that some nonsense of the third episode crept in as early as this. John being unfaithful? Nah. Don't buy it one bit.
Killing off Mary was a terrible choice. Man, this season is just bad all around, isn't it? Only my second time watching it.
Also - why would Mary pull that stunt on the plane to switcharoo with the stewardess? That's just inviting the possibility of drawing attention to yourself, when she would've been 100% incognito if she was simply a normal passenger.
Probably the most emotional episode of the series with massive consequences
While I was watching this episode ,I was crying:sob::hearts:Mary I will always love you
What were the writers thinking?
An excellent return. I enjoyed the twists & turns of the plot and look forward to see how the seeds sown in this, first of the series.
I never expected Watson to have an online affair. oh well..
8.5 from me. Curious about next episodes.
I'm happy that the show is back.
The only thing I didn't like was that they gave Mary a more intense background just to have her killed off like that?! Such a waste.
I do like that Sherlock is evolving and actually seeming more in touch with humans feelings than before, so good development there.
The episode was good but after waiting for two years, I would like something deeper.
I don't buy J's anger here. S was in the path, but M ... no. That does not work for me. Other than that, it was great, but just that set up took the whole episode rating down for me from "great" to "good."
i know this season is going to be very deep and dark
Well. That escalated quickly. I think it's safe to say that 2017 is going to suck as well. Even though we thought that Sherlock returning after 3 years would make it better.

What the fuck kind of bullshit was that
