Great episode. I loved the ending. Just ask. LOL.
What a great, dramatic episode! Quite a few twists.
And so much love, and other, in the air. I mean... Inej killing the Inferni for Kaz... she who vowed not to kill anyone. That is strong. (although... couldn't she have thrown the knife so it would hit him with the back end and just knock him out/leave him with brain damage?)
I love the characters so much. All of them are so well put together. Even the side characters, and side-side characters, like Dima.
Speaking of which, Jesper is really the King of getting distracted. He sure was doing some riding, but getting the horses ready...? Hmmmm!
I adore the trio/quartet with their heists especially much. Such an amazing team.
In connection to that, I love how the writers are not forcefully pushing any type of sexuality etc on the viewer, but they just present it matter of factly. Love that little macaroon-exchange there too. The whole show just feels like whoever made it, really put all their love into it. I understand it's not like the books, adaptions never are, but as the stand-alone "inspired by" work that it is, it is rather marvellous.
You know it's a Netflix show when it takes half a season for it to get exciting. Finally a good episode!
So far, I hadn't been vibing the show much. This was the first episode I actually kinda enjoyed.
I knew what was coming with Mal/Alina/The Darkling, so I knew what to expect. Gotta say, I was looking forward to Malina's first real serious fight. That was an important breaking point in their relationship, so I'm curious to see if the show will tackle it at all.
In that same sense, because I read the books and know where most of the story is going, the parts I'm enjoying the most are the ones involving The Crows gang. It's interesting how the writers invented a whole new mega heist for Kaz and co. to actually have all characters from Shadow and Bone and Six of Crows simultaneously in the same storyline. I'm curious to see when/how Nina and Matthias will meet with the rest of them, and if Alina being with the Crows will dramatically change the original story moving forward. This is a worlds colliding type scenario here, and it's actually, potentially, very cool.
However, there's something I hate in every episode, and this episode it was how they characterized David. He's supposed to be introverted, catastrophically bad at social cues and interactions and basically pretty antisocial. I feel like it would have been a lot more true to his character if David had been more like Shaun from The Good Doctor. Brainy and awkward. To me, David is very much on the Autism spectrum. Maybe mild Aspergers?
Also, OMG those gloves sucked so hard. They were supposed to be gloves with little mirrors to help Alina with her powers, not knife resistant, kitchen metal gloves. Would it really have been that much more work to stick a few mirror pieces to leather gloves?
HA! This show is freaking hilarious! I think it might have dethroned Riverdale as the most hilarious YA show.
First of all WHAT THE DUCK WAS THAT KISS, romance building is like 99% of a good YA Fantasy show and somehow they skipped that, and we got the most anticlimatic kiss ever, like I was rooting for them (even if he's a little evil) but that kiss came out of nowhere, and not as a surprise but more as out of place cause they'd only interacted like three times before that, I don't oppose it but exactly because I was rooting for it I ended up disappointed. In just one episode they went from like mysterious badass guy - soft timid girl to lovers to enemies, like what the duck was that. Still I'm shipping Alina and Aleksander, cause the other option Alina and Mal isn't doing it for me, that's gotta be the blandest dullest romance ever, not even romance, like it's so annoying cause Mal knows Alina is safe at the palace but out of nowhere he got obssesed with her when they would get the chance to reunite sometime in the future (like we saw in the flashbacks that they would go to different missions and reunite in the camp base). But also we may need a third love interest cause like obviously Aleksander is older than Alina and that's okay, but now I don't know about him being an eternal, cause that means he's OLD, it's the same dilemma as a vampire, like yeah you turned when you were 17 but now you are 117, so what do we make out of it? if I think about it it gets kinda yucky cause all I can think about is a 117 year old senior so I'm gonna stop thinking about Aleksander being OLD, but he would be in the first eligible group to get the vaccine.
I don't know the book's pace, but what I know is in 5 episodes they packed two different sagas and it's so tight that A LOT gets lost, this should've been episode 8 and then use the other 3 episodes in the middle for us to get to know this world and characters, and to build up that romance! You are telling me that in just 5 episodes Alina went from being a "nobody" to discovering her powers and to MASTERING them? just like that???
What was for real funny was Jesper's "Just ask" that situation was hilarious, and the cherry on top to a very odd gala, I can't get over the fact that if Aleksander's mother came out of the wall it means she was behind it when they were about to start doing it, again yucky.
The grand reveal felt rushed :no_mouth: So many possibilities of things playing out...
What I don't get is why Kirigan's mother waited until the very last second to tell Alina the truth about him... They spent weeks training together, I'm sure she had plenty of opportunities to come forward but instead she kept quiet until Alina was halfway to Boneville with the guy smh. I'm kind of disappointed because I find Alina and Mal as love interests really boring (I just don't vibe with childhood friends-to-lovers stories at all). Right now the Crows are the only thing keeping me watching.
Fedyor flirting with Ivan by feeding him treats is so adorable!
Also, Jesper's tussle with the stable boy...!

shit i am losing interest .. plot is going as expected nothing new and pathbraking... Making Kirigan the bad guy is such a novice play in the writing...
