Like they can't find other ways to make money? This is the most unlikely of unlikely scenarios. I like Maeve and Otis though.
I started watching this for Gillian Anderson alone, but ten minutes in and I was hooked because of everything else! This episode was unexpectedly and absolutely hilarious! Oh, how I was laughing my ass off when Otis was desperately clearing up the house of all sexually related items before Adam showed up...
The characters are great, with convincing performances, and the premise is set to be totally bonkers!
Oh, and the soundtrack is top-notch, too!
I am definitely gonna binge watch the shit out of this one!
Along with Deadly Class, Sex Education seems to be shaping up 2019 into a great year for a new and refreshing spin on a tired old genre: high-school TV shows.
Amazing start, can't wait to binge watch it tonight. Laughed my ass off during several scenes, this is gonna be awesome. Also, I developed a crush on Maeve (not Emma Mackey, the actress)
Haha, this show is awesome! I expected low-quality/flat/dumb jokes but this is thought through and quite brilliant :) Great cinematography, great actors, a nice story, it already feels like there's a good team behind this show.
I didn't even intend to give this a go at first but IIRC some Cobra Kai viewer recommended it in a review so I had to give it a chance. I'm glad that I did!
Kinda funny that it starts with a sex scene, I didn't even remember there being any titties in this show.
And the characters and actors are obviously so great! Otis (especially his behaviour and jacket), his mother Jean, his best friend Eric (especially his openness and clothes), and his new "business partner" (:D) Maeve.
PS: I feel like Otis should definitely get a lock for his door :D
it's overrated and i'm tired of teen shows focusing on relationships and sex but it's entertaining so I'll let it slide
This first episode was a strong opening into the series. It introduced us to all of the main characters- showing there personalitys, flaws, and relationships- and setting up potenital arcs for them. I really liked Eric adn Otis's friendship so far, their dialogue plays off so well with eachother and they clearly care for eachother and enjoy hanging out like real friends. Also I cant wait to see more of Jackson and Maeve, its clear Jackson wants to be more involved in Maee's life but she's closed off about allowing people to have a personal connection, and is seemingly hiding off things like her house sitaution to Jackson. Also I like Otis and Jean's dynamic, parennt to son, Jean clearly does care for her kid, but I feel she has an issue of constantly being on therapy mode for people and pushing boundaries when trying to help people. This is clearly affecting her relationship with Otis, with him feeling like she's invading his personal space. Also, adding on parent-son relationships, Adam and Mr Groff have an interesting one, with headmaster Groff seeing Adam as failing to meet his expectations, and Adam also dealing with not meeting these expectations as the headmasters son, I feel like this is a big reason why they have a troubled relationship where they dont get along. Morerover, talking about the characters more indidivually, Otis is a cool main character, a school sex therapist who struggles with his sexual expression huh, having a troubled relationship with his mom and just trying to survive through school, then theres Eric, the flamboyant gay best friend who seems like hell have more depth to him than this tired trope, with there being hints at him and his dad not seeing eye to eye, and his desire for popularity constanly backfiring on him, I like Maeve too, shes a mysterious and surprisiingly smart character whos constantly just an ass to everyone (except jackson), Eric's just the popular athelete right, and Adam is the troubled bully character who has a bad relationship with his dad, and in this episode was clearly affected by the expectations people set up for him, Aimee clearly is a people pleaser, constantly getting pushed around for her "friend group" and just following what they want, and finally with Jean she has the habit of trying to fix everyone to an unhealthy extent(obiviosuly excluding her actual clients). I liked how this episode was arranged storywise too, setting up the general oputline of this season with Maeve and Otis running a sex therapist business at school. The acting was really solid this episode, it never felt like i was listenign to scripted dialgoue and the people here, while obviosuly at poitns exaggerated, felt liek real characters in a high school setting. Solid worldbuilding too, I really felt like I was seeing a british highschool with the buildings, clothing, and characters. Nothing notable to say about camera work though, it was soloid as usual, getting the job done. Im lookin g forward to more from this show.
Just rewatching this after season 3, it really wasn’t that good. Quality’s definitely gone up.
Kinda... Lame and superficial. The plot and dialogue aren't at all believable.
Hopefully it gets better but I'm not sure I have the patience to see it through.
unbelievable everyone watched this and came out hating adam
love cheer chair table love

Expected this to be horrible, then saw stellar reviews, then watched the first ep and it wasn't perfect but it was pretty funny and could definitely see the rest of the season being good.
