Overall this was a fun season of Sex Education. I loved how the show explored multiple characters dealing with and coming to undertsnad their sexualities throughout the episodes, and how the show portrayed different characters struggling with their high school lives with familial and reltiionship issues. For instance, I loved Eric and his relationship with his father. Eric's father, an immigrant from Africa who had to fit in to the society he moved to in order to avoid a painful life, who is worried about his kid Eric living a life full of pain because of who he is, and just wants him to be safe. And Eric, who believes that regardless of how he acts his like will be full of harmful experiences, and just wants to express who he is in spite of that. I loved how they both came to an understanding, with Eric's dad calling his son brave for being able to express his identity and them hugging it out. Adam's character wa interesting this season, most of it has been shown through his relationship with his father, Mr. Groff, with Mr. Groff having constantly compared Adam to others he respects more, and Mr. Groff never really appreciating his son or showing love towards him, and this behaviour clearly tearing down Adam emotionally with him being this bully character who seems to be afriad of his own fathe and ashamed of who he is, with him ainly taking out his anger on Eric whose so open about his identity. And now knowing that Adam is gay/bi, after that sex scene he had with Eric, it recontextualizes alot of the moemnts he had with Eric, making him seem like a self-hating and closeting gay character taking out that anger on Eric, whose an openly gay character. I also loved Eric and Otis's relationship this season, with Eric being this flamboyant gay character who wants to be seen by others, and Otis being this sexually repressed more loner type character, but them being best friends going through highschool while having eachothers backs. It was so painful seeing Otis and Eric being apart after their big fight, which in retrospect seemed inevitable with Eric starting to feel like a third wheel after Otis started spending more time with Maeve, with this eventually leading to Otis abandooning Eric on his birthday, leaving him vulnerable and alone, as Otis helped Maeve with an emeregency. Otis was a solid main character throughout this season, I loved seeing his relationships with all the other characters throughout the season, and seeing how the show explored issues of his own, with him being sexually repressed stemming alot from trauma due to his dad cheating and also just being part of who he is. Im glad Otis eventually improved his relationship with his mom, Jean, who was this overly invasive mother, but she just did that because she felt that she was losing Otis after their father left, and just wanted to udnerstand him better to deepen their relationship. Maeve was pretty intersting as a character too, with her at first devaluing herself and avoiding people developing close relationships with her to avoid makign herself vulnerable to pain again, after people like her brother and father who abandoned her let Maeve down. It was painful to knwo that she valued herselrf so little comapred to people like Jackson, and that was why she avoided a relationship with him at first, but im glad she eventually started letting people liek him and Otis into more inimate aspects of her life throughout the series, and started to see how great a person she actually was, tho it sucks that Otis x Maeve never happened. Also, somewhat related to Maeve, I really liked that Sara character from the abortion episode, learning about how she regrets having children because she was a bad mother and is aborting her other prgenancies to avoid giving them a bad parent was so painful, for a one episode character she left a real impact on me. Jackson was a good character too imo, i felt bad for the guy, with him feeliung trapped in his mother's life by prusuing swimming, a dream that seems to be his mothers but not really his own, and with him constantly dealing with anxiety before swimming matches, it was hard to watch him deal with that. Though I still agree with Maeve, Jackson should recognize that his parents care alot about him, dedicating so much of their lives to his success, and I hope Jackson does talk to them abotu how swimming isnt something he wants to do. Aimee was a great character this season too, watching her go from just a people pleaser who willingly gets pushed around by others without having a care for what she wants, or even ever thinking about that, to being somoen who does what she wants and doesnt allow herslef to be pushed around by others, with her abandoning her toxic friend group to stand by Maeve, the only character who seemed like a geniuen friend for her. I also really liked Jeans character too, she was always this sort of know it all character who always belived she knew everything about others, but watching her be humbled after completelty misreading Yacob was a nice moment, and im glad she also started realizing she was being way to invasive in Otis's life in her attempts to build a closer relationship with him, I hope she gives him a bit more autonomy in his own life. Maeve's brother was honestly just a dogshit person and character, not much to say about him tbh. Lily was pretty weird, but I liked learnign about why she desires having sex so much, out of a desire to not be left behind by her highschool peers. And, im looking forward in s2 seeing all these characters arcs be explored more, tho im still mad Otis ended up with Ola and not Maeve.
Lovely show, you grow to love the characters... but Otis's mum is unbearable throughout the season: always nosy, never respecting boundaries
I thought this was a bit outlandish and stereotypes too silly, until the young man who had the problem with his gigantic penis. That is something I can relate to.
I want to watch it

Contrary to what its title would suggest, Sex Education is a genuinely good show, with interesting plotlines and character development. What I liked the most possibly was how even secondary characters get some screentime and the show goes in-depth in their own backstories.
Anxiously waiting for season 2.
