This is definitely getting a second season and I'm all up for it. The cinematography is gorgeous and the soundtrack fits perfectly with its themes. It addresses important topics that should be discussed amongst teenagers in such a natural, easy way.
The whole cast does a great job. I'll never get tired of saying that Asa Butterfield is a fantastic actor and deserves to get more recognition urgently.
i dont know about u guys but asa butterfield AND gillian anderson? ive never been so on-board before
UPDATE: just finished it and MAN you all need to watch this. its a mastery of crushing cliches and good writing!
A lot of fun with some good characters and strong emotional beats. The first 2 seasons are really great, but things go downhill a bit with season 3 (and even more so in season 4) when they take the focus off of the core group of characters we've gotten used to and start to introduce new characters that simply aren't as compelling or strongly written. But even still, every season was enjoyable.
This show is what I call art! It makes you cry, it makes you laugh, it makes you feel things for these characters, you even forget they are fictional characters, it makes you want to change your life. Please do yourself a favor and watch it immediately!
Good show
But S4 is below average
I haven't had this much fun with a (sort of) sex centred show since Californication! The characters are instantly likeable, the soundtrack is not only very good on its own, but also neatly adjusted for the show. Like others have mentioned, the cinematography is superb, every time I'd watch an episode I'd feel as if I had just bought a new TV. It's that good!
These characters are so adorable and well written that one can't help but laugh with them, get angry with them, get horny with them, and cry with them throughout the whole show.
Sex Education makes me wish I was in a relationship that was broken just to get sexual advice from Otis. Damn, that kid is good!
And here's a shout-out to the guy who had things worse during the first season: Gillian Anderson's sink. We feel your pain, bro.
without sound, you would think it was american, but they all speak British. where is it supposed to be? Could'nt stand enough of it to find out! utter garbage, waste of Gillian Andersons talent....but I suppose the money was good. Would have to be, to appear in such crap!
This show was a ride. I am not going to touch on every season because I do that for every season basically. In fact, I might even keep this review on the shorter side compared to my other reviews. I just wanna spill out my general thoughts. First, I will kinda touch on the seasons. The first was the best, and it focused on the main cast of the show. The second, however, does not falter at all. It is very close to the first season and has the higher highs. I just think some of it was a bit rough. Third season has really bad and really good moments. The final season, didn't hit a single high in the show, but it hit tons of lows. None were horrendous, but when compared to the other seasons, comes off as very disappointing. As the show went on, the focus on too many characters made it very flawed. I think the first 2 seasons focused on a good amount of characters. Then season 3 focused on like fifty more, which was worsened in season 4. Sometimes the sexualness of the show is a bit offputting, but it doesn't take away from the overall experience. I absolutely adore character dynamics like Otis and Eric, and I also love other characters like Adam and Jackson. Maeve was also very good and I liked seeing her and Aimee interact. Also, Ruby was so fucking good in the last 2 seasons. I love the development of characters and the characters themselves on this show. I will never forget this show, despite its disappointing end.
At Time of Review:
Sex Education: Low 9/10
Story and Characters: 9/10
Presentation: 9/10
Enjoyability: 9/10
should have ended with otis dying in a freak accident. would have almost saved season 4.
Such vivid characters and coherent plot. I love it. I loved how the show was able to develop so much characters with out making the MC suffer. The sex education is a progressive show for it's time, but it does it with out being too much. It is a fine line. I never expected the finale to be so brilliant. Everyone got closure. I especially loved Adam's family's story.
Really enjoyed all of it, even the last season still had the same charm as the first ones, a modern classic. The cast seems to have a great future ahead. I’m just happy to see a series be able to tell their story without the need to overextend it out being cut short from being cancelled by its network, something rare nowadays.
Relative to today and a good watch for teens, tackles important topics, funny beautiful and educational
After the 4 seasons, it makes a very interesting portrait of the people who were adolescents in this present (2019-23) from approaches to sex, identities to new forms of expression, insecurities, violence, diverse family environments, etc. In the future we will see this series as a pioneer in many topics and as one of the best accomplished teen series of this century, along with Gossip Girl and Euphoria, to name a few. The subtle criticisms it makes of society like cancelation culture, abuse, the educational system, as well as the great references to other series and films and the high quality of filming, should be highlighted.
Another great show geared towards teenagers and young adults shows the raw nature of adolescence and the problems that teenagers have to deal with. The characters are all unique and have their own problems to deal with. I do think as the series continued on, it seemed like the show was dragging on though.
This is such an endearing and loving show. So much will be learned and appreciated for anyone watching this show. Gillian Anderson is so perfectly in her element in this role.
S3 ending might gives us a S4 :-o !
It's just amazing, i loved it and i cannot wait till the next season
watched the first episode so far, quite boring and well known from other shows/movies. not that funny at all (at least in my opinion). Will give it a try for maybe 2 or 3 episodes. netflix ORIGINAL quality as usual.
I still hope netflix wouldn't label everything as original, even if it's just exklusive (it's very annoying, especially in Europe). It would be much easier to sort out the real originals out, mostly crap.
Really cool, short series.
Downsides are the typical netflix femnazi and sjw cancer lines
especially around the ball
but since its not so much in your face i will still give 8/10
I was waiting for the grand ending where Otis and Maeve end up together, fuck you wheelchair guy. Fuck your life
WHAT THE FUCK!
FUCK YOU WHEELCHAIR GUY.
This is a great Tv shows ! The characters are well written and I'm in love with all of them. A great show that demonstrate the importance of education, sexual education, self-acceptance, acceptance of the other and COMMUNICATION !
Great great show, one of my favorites!
Season 3 was good. Liked it more than others
It was such a sweet series. As a member of the ace community, the scene about feeling broken relates to me in a very personal level. Effortlessly diverse and very empathetic. Strong writing. Honestly, not very funny. Still looking forward to the third season!
This is a great series. Has lots of heart and soul. I hope it gets renewed for Season 3!!
Season 1 comment: This show is actually better than expected. Quite funny and interesting character developments. Hope there's going to be a second season.
After season 2 and halfway through season 3: this is an amazing show. It is so well made! One of the few brilliant Netflix productions out there.
Didn't expect it to be so weirdly hilarious.
Edit: Season 2 delivers.
I was less ready than I expected to see Asa Butterfield attempting masturbation and talking about sex.
WASN'T HE A KID?!
Ps: Loving the show.
S1 and 2 are nearly perfect. Now, S3 is still good on themes & sex ed discussions that are still unheard of on TV, BUT the plot and character arcs kinda go downhill.
This series is a fun - I laughed a lot!
The British setting conflicting with the very US school is kind of confusing :/
I just spent two days to finish all the episodes. I'm really curious about how Otis and Maeve's relationship going to be. I'm so ready for S2!!!! It talks about issues that really matters during teenage in a easy way
Just a top quality shows!! Shame there won't be more but I think it had ran it's course
I put off watching this for a while because I thought that it was not my thing but ended up really enjoying it. If you're going into this show then you have to be able to lean into the slightly weird and wacky but you will often find yourself smiling or feeling emotional at the melancholic moments. The show does a beautiful job at depicting the messy lives of teenagers and the ending was absolutely phenomenal and emotional. Would recommend.
Despite being lower than the community on this show, I did think it was pretty good. It reminded me a lot Red Oaks, but a sexual British version. It consistently hit a spot that was enjoyable and I looked forward to the upcoming season, but never hit a high that I have felt inclined to rewatch. A part of it may be due to the British humor. A lot of the plotlines feel a bit more cultural opposed to universal, which is fine, but just held it back slightly for me.
Average Season Review: 7.13/10
Recommendation: Watch If You Need Content (For High School Comedy Fans)
As a whole, Sex Education is pretty good but didn't wrap up in the most satisfying or best of ways and while I did enjoy it enough to want to finish the series, it also wasn't always my type of show.
It's a fun comfort show, although it was never really realistic. And by that I mean the interaction between characters, it was never really believable. The last season became really ridiculous and felt more like a parody, because there 99% of the people were part of the LHBTQ+ community. Still it had good humor and brought up some issues that are good to discuss. The best part at the end were Adam and his father, because that was still quite realistic in a way.
Season 4 rated a 6
From someone who watched this through many times, stop after season 3, and imagine what happens in season 4 instead. It will likely be better done in your own head.
season 1 and two are maaterpieces, then it goes off the rails
first season or two were ok, slightly interesting, but the 3 & 4th were awful
Such a good show ruined after 1 season. 4 is misery - gender propaganda hunting everywhere and terrifies from every corner. Absolutely wasted dynamics between Otis and Maeve. Putting mother in guys erections was the icing on the cake. Like wtf. I would gladly see next season comig back to its original roots and focusing on the closest beasties introduced in S1., without imaginary queer college etc. I know it is Netflix, but they should drop it. Like now.
Season 1 is heavily underrated on this website. It was much better than any of the following seasons. Fantastic casting with a tight-knit script. Asa Butterfield (Otis) and Emma Mackey (Maeve) had phenomenal chemistry that kept the story entertaining but believable.
Beyond the first season is a train wreck of sub-standard plots (the herpes epidemic at the school, seriously?) taking one-off characters out of their element, and introducing ridiculous amounts of gender politics and "slap sex" humor.
Sex Education should have been a one and done hero as a shining example of how to produce quality content for Netflix.
There is a Season 4 but sadly it is not added to this list Can someone make that happen?
maeve looks like a fully formed adult while otis looks like a little boy
4th season should have not happened at all. This was a great series at the beginning just to end as pathetic woke culture pamphlet.
A good series with good morals
I can't help being a little disappointed with the last season. I think it needed more a couple of episodes. It's still a great show with a high possibility of rewatch.
The last season had a nice close. I enjoyed how they paid attention to each character
This show is absolutely fantastic.
8 of 10. Pretty good show
8 of 10. Pretty good show
On the whole it's good. Great cast with good writing.
Seasons 1&2 were hilarious, I thought it maybe on par with Afterlife. But, season 3 was so depressing and not nearly as much fun. I really hope it returns back to "normal" in season 4.
Patricia Allison's (Ola) action is outstanding, keep reminding me Ruth Negga (Tulip) from Preacher, they even looks alike! And Otis looks like younger Jesse from Preacher, very interesting... I can't find any articles on Internet talk about this lol
it's a very well built series but it's very apparent it's based on "10 things I hate about you". Still definitely worth watching
the logic in the show is fucked up
At first my opinion of this show wasn't that high. Just that type of silly show, with the effeminate gay friend purely as comedic relief, and everyone's problems had this really quick and unrealistic at the end of every episode.
But as it went on it really grew on me. The characters improved past those two-dimensional roles, and it actually became a pretty good portrayal of lgbt characters. And the story improved with it.
Would definitely recommend giving it a try.
After brushing up on 1-8 in a day, instead of judging each person's actions, I try to understand their reasoning for doing so, the motivation behind it, to understand the mental development of high school students at that age, to understand that I was like that at the time, and even laugh.
Sometimes a little slapsticky on the sex parts, but great in the serious moments.
Amazing show, can't wait for season 3.
Absolutely love this show! Great characters, great story, great writing, brilliant cinematography! I’m in love with this show!
Interesting. Season 2 is actually much better than season 1.
One of the best shows i've watched, it is SO funny and exciting
This show is brilliant, funny and worth watching, seriously! Can't wait for next season.
eh, not bad, i love adam i hope cb
no second season for me, everyone else have fun.

the show should've ended with all of them dying due to the asbestos exposure
