If you've come to the comment section to figure out if you want to start watching this show, one tip. JUST DON'T!
What I can tell you, after I've watched season 1, 2 and up to episode 20 in season 3. It gets worse. The sad part is, it had potential. I remember I enjoyed the first season. It was decent, it wasn't amazing, but it was good. Second season, it went downhill. Third season, when you think it can't get any worse, oh it does. If there was a way to give this show less than 1/10, I would. The plot has become awful, the writing gets worse, you do not recognize the actors anymore.. And from someone who was a huge fan of Archie in season 1, I honestly want to punch his face in season 3. If you wanna save yourself time, despair, please don't watch this. Your life will be so much better spent doing something else.
How this got renewed for a season 4, I have no freaking clue. I wish this was canceled. Oh how I wish they would just cancel this show right now. I am actually torturing myself watching this season. And once it's over, I can finally rest and put this behind me. I can't see how they possibly can make a season worse than season 3, but I am sure somehow, they can do it.
Update after season 3: Wow it sucks. With a flash forward at the end of the last episode, I honestly can't see this show redeeming itself. So sayonara Riverdale. Will not return to watch season 4.
It's a new show so I'm not understanding everyone's comments on a show that hasn't even started yet
Damn that gargoyle stupid plot!!! It ruined the show drastically!!!
Oh, Riverdale, why can't I quit you? Every time I think I'm going to just give up on this crazy-ass show, I just get sucked right back in. Nothing makes sense, people do whatever they want without the correct schooling or accreditation, everyone sleeps with each other, and someone is breaking out in song and/or dance every few episodes, but damn it, I keep watching. Why do I torture myself so?
This show has gotten so boring and just keeps getting worse the more u watch. Dont even know why I watched as much as I did
First Season was good
After that its straight garbage!!!!!
Probably the most cringey dialogue of any show. This one was actually to the point where I had to stop watching. However, I was really entertained by the first several seasons. I think if they just toned down this show by a couple of notches, I would have continued to watch. But once the plot started to weaken, I couldn’t take all the cringe ass scenes and random song breakouts.
Season 3 is fucking boring
Overall the show is badly written, and a disappointment. The pop culture references on this show come off as pretentious and not organic or ironic. Either go dark and creepy or keep it lighthearted with a level of camp; this in-between comes off sloppy AND, let's face it, this ain't Twin Peaks, not even remotely despite desperately trying to be...
I've just tested out this new series and, so far, it's a little bit Archie, a little bit Twin Peaks (the original) and a little bit Veronica Mars and a whole lot CW. Now, I loved Veronica Mars, so it doesn't meet that standard, and Twin Peaks went way beyond the hints of dark in Riverdale, but, it doesn't seem to have very much of anything in common with the Archie of comic book fame except the character names and the "Who will get Archie>" premise (except it pretty clear Archie is easy to get). And wasn't Archie about the idealized golden years of High School and good friends and budding romance, instead of dark murder mystery, felony rape and dysfunctional parenting? However, it is pure CW fare, and if that is your go-to channel, you'll like this. I'm giving it a preliminary 6 (fair) out of 10, but I'll watch a few more episodes to give the series a chance to percolate. One personal note: couldn't they find a single true Ginger with the acting chops to play this Archie?
This series is such a dumpster fire.
I love it.
The first season is tolerable because there was a decent short plot but god the second and third were awful. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Unless u wanna watch it to make fun of it which I’m currently doing. The shows has awful writing and the characters are so stereotypical and have no layers in all the seasons, but after season 1 the writers only wanted to make a shit tone of episodes and keep the plot going so u could easily tell they never know what’s happening and there are countless plot holes and basically no storyline.
This is not the Archie we all remember
It's a regular CW drama, however:
(1) The aesthetics are AMAZING, it's really pretty. Prettier than most shows out there. The photography, the wardrobe and scenary and all of it. 10/10 aesthetics.
(2) The characters are appealing and captivating.
(3) The show has a great tone on some subjects like feminism and homophobia, etc.
(4) It's fairly well developed - it seems a little silly at the beggining but it gets better and better.
(5) I liked it 'cause it's entertaining and I'm hooked.
No one realized yet that when they were all in relationship with each other meant that Archie had sex with Jug?
I finished the final episode today of the season finale. What a ride this has been. I enjoyed the first few seasons more, to be honest. I grew up with this show, so many years have gone by. What a ride it has been. Goodbye, Riverdale.
at least it's funny
I thought this show was over and done and then it comes out with an episode 7 for season 6?! At this point they're just beating a dead dog
Season 5 is a COMPLETE disaster.
it getting worse every episode 1st season was the best. i wonder what's next
Overall Riverdale starts surprisingly strong (with flaws) but it gradually becomes very bad (with not much to save it).
S01 Pretty good all-around, engaging mystery and characters.
S02 Characters are mostly still good, main mystery is a bit cheesier but still fun and overall makes sense.
S03 Characters don't make that much sense anymore, plot goes WILDLY CHEESY (which can be fun), ending is meh.
S04 (I stopped at E06) Rehash of previous plotlines plus added nonsense, characters don't act the way you expect - only good part is Jughead and his story.
like watching a lot of hot people in the same car crash
Damn that lame gargoyle plot!!!
I figured I would give this a chance. Over all its a good story that makes you wanting to know who did it, but the sub-plot stories are kind of dumb. I have not finished the series yet and hope they add up to the final main plot. As for the characters its a CW show so everyone is good looking. There will be characters you love and ones you hate. Over all I found most of the main characters dumb in the actions they would do.
This show became repetitive and boring. The gargoyle plot is so bad. And don't get me started on the Farm...
Won't be looking for season 4.
Cheesy script, predictable plot lines, and bad acting. I had some hope for this but first season is proving it to be another generic CW show filled with eye candy that will be canceled soon enough.
The great "Archie" getting a live-action adaptation?!?! THERE IS A GOD!!! If it is anything like the new Archie comic reboot (which is fantastic and a must-read), then I will be hooked. All I know is that one can never have enough Betty and Veronica, that's for sure... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
EDIT: Well, after watching the first episode of Riverdale, I don't quite know what to think of it all yet. Riverdale seems to be more heavily influenced by the CW's style turning this into more of a darker mystery driven show than I had been anticipating. We'll see how everything shakes out as the first episode already had its hands full just introducing the myriad of characters here. I really liked what was done in the recent Archie comic reboot but perhaps this mystery-story based approach is better suited for TV vs the lighter affair of the comics.
Also, we need more Jughead!!
This is a trashy show. You don't start episode 1 of a TV show on The CW network expecting something from HBO or AMC. I'm not sure what all these negative reviewers were expecting when they started this show. If you take this show seriously, then you're watching it wrong. If you're watching it for fun, just to tap out at the end of the day, maybe to shut your brain off so you can watch an overdramatic storyline that will have no effect on your being, then do give this a try. The overall storyline is ridiculous and completely unbelievable, but this is a teen soap drama. For a teen soap drama, I think it's very well-produced.
Script & Story: 6/10 – Like I said, the storyline is ridiculous, but the story does get better.
Acting: 8/10 – The four main actors are still fairly early in their careers, and you can tell which ones are less experienced, but they do get better in the second half of the first season, when they become more familiar with their own characters. Plus, the acting from the parent figures (e.g. Madchen Amick, Skeet Ulrich) helps provide more emotional realism to make certain scenes more convincing.
Set Production & Costume: 8/10 – I love how they designed the "small town feel" to their filming locations. The natural wilderness of Vancouver, British Columbia helps a lot in some of their scenes.
Characters: 9/10 – I'm not crazy for the lack of development for Archie, but they did really well in developing both Betty and Jughead. The introduction of Veronica's father in the second season will definitely help Veronica's character development, and I'm very confident Archie's character will undergo some changes in the second season too.
Cinematography: 10/10 – Some of the shots in this show are truly beautiful, especially for a teen soap drama.
What the hell is going on? It's been 13 episodes of season 5 and I haven't seen a single sane storyline yet.
can they just stop making this ?
MY THOUGHTS ON RIVERDALE:
-WARNING: Spoilers Below-
I'm so, so disappointed with this show. I really wanted to like it but unfortunately everything about it was just bad. At the beginning I thought it honestly had potential but as the episodes went on that original hope for potential quickly diminished. I remember seeing a clip on the show and saw the Serpent on the jacket and thought "hey, this looks cool!" but they even managed to screw up the damn gang for goodness sake.
One aspect of the show that gave me some form of hope for it was Jughead Jones, he was literally the ONLY good thing about this show. Everything else was just awful acting and miserable script writing. Unfortunately for Jughead his appeal quickly fades away thanks to him being surrounded by an absolutely miserable cast.
I have no idea what they were trying to do with this show, it constantly seemed to be changing genres like the directors had no clue what to do with it. Thanks to that it ended up leaving the show in a mess and ruined any form of potential that the show once had.
Overall I can honestly see the appeal to the younger teenage audience, attractive actors with tons of teen drama, if you're looking for a show that offers that then you'll enjoy it. If you want a show that offers a little bit more then this definitely isn't for you.
Overall rating: 4/10
probably one of the most ABSURD tv shows of all times, with pathetic and meaningless stories. it's not even good as a teenage series. and i'd better not say anything about the musical episodes. a shame.
I’m actually embarrassed to say I watch this. It’s something I put on when I’m really tired, so it doesn’t matter if I miss anything.
It’s a teen drama I suppose, so probably asking too much
It wouldn’t be as bad if the had different people playing Archie and his girlfriend Veronica. Archie’s badly dyed red hair, matches his bad acting. And Veronica is just so annoying.
Light entertainment, cheesy, nothing to take seriously.
I’m shocked it on Season 4! There’s been so many phenomenal shows cancelled after one season. It makes absolutely no sense.
Ah well, it’s something to keep me entertained when I’m absolutely exhausted.
So I have many complicated feelings about this show and I feel that it was every changing, sometimes in a good way, sometimes not, so I'm going to try and break my thoughts down into digestible chunks.
Season 1 - The Murder of Jason Blossom
When Riverdale started it immediately hooked me in. We start with a panoramic view of the town we are going to come to know over the next seven seasons and we get a narration catching us up on current events. I think the overall mystery of this season was just ok but it allowed for the set up of the characters and so we could start seeing the developing romances that would continue to blossom throughout the latter seasons before being completely demolished. I feel that the characters were compelling, the acting wasn't terrible but wasn't absolutely amazing either. In the first season my main issue came from that initial episode, the pilot episode entitled, 'Rivers Edge,' which shows the blossoming romance between teacher, (Geraldine Grundy), and student (Archie Andrews). I would not have been mad at this if It had been handled well and was showcased to be wrong and illegal like it is. However the show seems to glorify this relationship and make Mrs Grundy out to be a victim that needs to be protected when in actual fact she is grooming Archie which is wrong on so many levels.
Season 2 - The Black Hood Murders
I would have to personally say that this is my favourite season. This is what I hoped to get from the majority of Riverdale and I was disappointed that it wasn't. I recognise that this season has its issues but I feel that it still told a compelling storyline. This season clocked in at a full 22 episodes so it definitely had a decent amount of filler but I think it did a good job at looking into the inner working mind of a killer and started to look into Betty's inner struggles before they demolished that storyline aswell. This season was also where the musical episodes made an appearance, this season's musical of choice being Carrie the Musical. I personally thought this was done quite well. The cast have somewhat decent singing voices though some are more heavily helped with autotune than others and I feel like they didn't bring a complete disservice to the musical they chose to use.
Season 3 - The Gargoyle King
Up until this point I had been really enjoying Riverdale but then this season happened and I genuinely couldn't have been more confused. To me, this is where the show started to do the crossover with Sabrina and the Teenage Witch. This season implemented elements of fantasy and introduced cults that recruited teenagers into the mix. This season could genuinely have not been any more messes up. Over the entirety of this season Ethel genuinely grated on me - she had been a character I began to warm to due to her quirky personality but the show shattered all of that with this season. I am a strong believer that if you choose a genre for your show then you stick to it because introducing fantasy this far into the show is what threw me off. Season 3's musical episode featured songs from the hit West End and Broadway Musical Heather's and absolutely demolished them. This episode was absolutely barbaric and should never have happened. Everything from the costuming to the choreography was atrocious. The only slightly redeemable factor was the show's rendition of Beautiful but even that was Sub par.
Season 4 - Stonewall Prep/Jellybean + The Video Tapes
I feel like this season slightly redeemed from the dip in quality from the last season however it had lost the enjoyment. There were still weird storyline or storylines that just didn't really come to fruition. I am happy however that we got a season that took a main focus around Jughead and his backstory as I feel like he is an often overlooked character from the main cast. I know there was the whole storyline about Jellybean and the Video Tapes in this season and then I believe it wraps up at the beginning of season 5. I will admit, I almost forgot about this storyline because if how out of place it was and how quickly it wrapped up along with how disappointing it was. This season's musical episode, 'Hedwig and the Angry Inch,' had a lot of better quality than the Heather's one and I appreciated the more LGBTQ+ focus in this epsisode.
Season 5 - The Trash Bag Killer (7 Years Later) The Moth Man/The Highway Killer
It's only when looking back that I realised actually how much happened in this season and it's honestly disappointing because I remember thinking that this season had so much potential but they just ruined it. I think the story of the highway killer could have been much more dark and would of made for a more gripping storyline. They made the absolute wrong choice to make one of the musical episodes of this season about the death of Polly. I think it was sick and slightly inhumane. The Tash Bag Killer could have been a much darker and grittier storyline aswell though I feel this was executed slightly better than the Highway Killer as that brought in all the rubbish about the Moth Man. I think one of the best things about this season was the 7 year time jump as it brought about so much potential and so much that could be explored with the characters. As mentioned above this seasons musical episode focused on the death of Polly Cooper using songs from the Musical entitled Next To Normal
Season 6 - Percival Pickens (The Powers)
To me this is where the show really went to shit. Nothing was really understandable in this season and all the character arcs got ruined. All the romances ended which makes you wonder why they decided to destroy character arcs they had built over 6 seasons. The introduction of the powers was just so silly as well and of course the would make Cheryl the most powerful one. That was obvious from a mile off. I don't have that much to say about season 6 cause I really didn't like it. Season 6's musical episode was American Psycho which was pretty much as shit as the rest of the season.
Season 7 - Back to the 1950's (Final Ever Season)
I don't have a lot to go off for Season 7 as I'm writing this review at the release of the first four episodes but all I can't really say is that it's not screaming final ever season to me. They've introduced another switch up by introducing time travel into the mix and I just can't see how they're going to wrap this up in under 20 episodes but it will be interesting to see.

The Entirety of Season 6
First 3 seasons was amazing, loved that show, 4th and 5th was good , but 6th season is just confusing and wrong_- they have superpowers now!!!!!
I think this is easily the worst show I've ever seen. It's so frustratingly disappointing! The first few seasons were so god, the amount of teen drama wasn't unreal, obviously there was some, but it was acceptable. Eventually the show just shifted direction entirely, and became some mad sci-fi/mystery bullshit. The worst part isn't that it shifted direction even, the fact that it also added so many cringe elements, and it was done is such a terrible way, it's a damn shame. I honestly don't know what the producers of this show thought when they went this way.
The first season is ok. Then the show becomes some of the best bad TV I've seen. It's so dumb and whacky, each week I can't wait to see what random bullshit the writers came up with this time.
When is this show going to end? I keep watching cause I started it but it's bad...
I stopped watching this crap at s03e09. Up to that point I don't think there was a single episode where Archie was not shirtless.
Good series, but they spend too much time with the topic G&G. Season 4 is much better again.
Simply my guilty pleasure. I can't explain my attachment to it.
I really liked the story told in the first season and now the second season keeps me interested as well. I think both stories are written really well. The only problem I have with this series is that it feels sooo American. I often feel that the characters are looking a bit too perfect (so that is must be fake). If they just had neutralized the characters with less make-up and more 'common', I would love the series even more. In the beginning, it was hard for me to continue watching because of this Americanisation, but I'm happy I did because the story actually is great.
To be brutally honest, Riverdale's concept is so CW, and I hate that they used Archie characters. The plot is interesting and all that, but this made my view on the characters turn 360. Riverdale q***rbaiting us with Betty and Veronica is pointless. Instead, they should just make Beronica canon. Also, stop it with the Grundy/Archie storyline. I know the third episode has just been released as I write this comment, but seriously, what the hell?
There is no resemblance of riverdale in this show except for the names of the characters and town etc.
I had always heard in passing that Riverdale was crazy. You can't fully appreciate that until you've seen it firsthand. This show truly is batshit insane, in a variety of ways. The premises are ridiculous, the writing is lazy and contradictory (constantly breaking its own continuity when it's convenient), and the drama is overwrought. But it can be an entertaining watch to make fun of it. It's impossible to take this show seriously.
Personal season ranking: S1 > S6 > S2 > S4 > S3 > S5 > S7
The main reason why I think S1 is the best is because it was short. Every season after it just dragged on for far too long.
S6 honestly surprised me with how it wrapped everything up. For the first time, things actually made sense. At least in a Riverdale way. Don't get me wrong, the premise of that season is absolutely ludicrous, but they make it work. Sort of. It becomes fun if you buy into the ridiculousness and also realize that they aren't taking it all too seriously, either.
S7 was pointless and has no reason to exist. They travel back in time to 1955, and they pretend that modern progressive sensibilities would be able to thrive and be widely accepted. It ultimately serves no purpose, and they barely tie it in to the main storyline at the very end, where they kind of retcon the entirety of the show.
worst piece of trash like fr
:heart:x5
This show started OK and was kind of interesting - It was nothing like the Archie Comics we all know and love, but this was a more adult version of the characters.
The first 3 or so seasons were acceptable but then it started going downhill. Storylines just kept getting more and more bizarre. Season 6 was absolutely horrible and I refuse to watch Season 7 as it is just a continuation of Season 6. I even downgraded my rating on this show because of this.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
I’m so glad I’ve finally finished this show - I’ve been stuck here watching it for 6 looooong years!! It was great to begin with but then lost itself somewhere along the way and turned into a mess in which I had no clue what was happening, they should’ve ended it sooner tbh
This show is all over the place.
They just set a pedophile free like that
Please PLEASE stop making it, I have OCD and I started watching it but it gets worse and worse so I CAN'T WAIT for them to stop making it. It's really really really really bad. STOP STOP it please no more. CAN'T stand it!
How the hell does a show like this last for seven seasons? I'm pretty sure everyone gave up on it after season 3.
Even if I tried to write a script for this I'd not be able to pull it THIS BAD!!!:joy:
I used to like this show. But they managed to spoil it way too much!
This show starts as sexualized glee and ends as a bad version of supernatural.
From high school drama to a show with a fire witch and a time manipulating angel
ok im gonna be honest... 13 year old self me liked season 1, 2, and 3. yeah. i liked it. i enjoyed it. i ate that shit up. but that was two years ago. riverdale had 4 seasons. even i saw how shitty it was getting, otherwise i would have watched it all. im suprised they're still going. do not watch this unless you are a 13-year-old girl
After weeks of unwillingness to watch the remaining episodes of season 6, I finally finished it tonight and all I can say is: What the actual fuck?!! How did you manage to sabotage a perfectly show like this, CW? Nothing makes sense, even in a supernatural perspective. God I hated it.
This would be so much better without the cheesy musicals and the PG-Rated forced sexy remarks...
While the show overall is absolutely terrible (season 1 was alright tho) and I wouldn't recommend it (unless you're the kind of person who watches bad movies on purpose, then you'll love it, it's the reason everyone who could stomach it is still watching, the scenarists eventually embraced the show being stupidly bad and are going wild with it trying to figure out what it takes for people to stop watching which ironically made the show funnier to watch), the actors impressed me a lot.
The entire cast can say all those ridiculous lines and do well in the numerous very, very cringy musical moments while keeping a straight face and appearing serious. It's truly incredible, props to them. I don't think any other acting performance has ever impressed me this much and while I might be a little hyperbolic, I am being 100% unironic.
Unfortunate for Cole that his comeback into acting ended up with him being a prisoner of this show for so long along with the rest of the cast, I hope it doesn't leave too sour a taste in his mouth and that it doesn't affect the cast's acting careers going forward.
Season 6 is the most fun I had with this show in a while. Embracing the supernatural elements and campiness made Riverdale so entertaining that I don't even care about weaker plot elements which are still present but overall this season was better than the previous one.
Love this show! I lovelovelove the modern and vintage mixed together especially the cars! everything is old school but they have internet laptops and cellphones. there are classic land lines old school tvs classic fashion the most amazing classic cars except for very few exceptions like the Lincoln Limos (but those are classics in their own right) it's brilliant! all that yet it's set in present day. it's mind bending in a wonderful way. love the darkness too I was surprised at first. I also like how everything flows naturally representing everyone without it being forced or over the top as it should be in the real world.
started strong then declined from season 2
When you start watching Riverdale it is still 'just' a murder mystery but as soon as you hit season 2 things shift and by the time you are up to speed with the current episodes you will be wondering why the hell you're still watching but the thing is... you can't stop. Never have I seen a show that comes close to the ridiculousness that is Riverdale. There are twists and turns that make zero sense in stories written as if the writers are always high as a kite. I'm pretty sure I don't even really like any of the characters but the cast seems genuinely fun and I'm too invested to stop.
If there is one positive thing to be said about Riverdale is that it never gets boring. You simply can't predict what comes next. This show seems to follow a different set of rules when it comes to writing and its curse is that once you start, you just can't stop.
Another CW show of good looking teenagers doing non regular teenage things. cheryl
Edit (Season 5): gets more ridiculous with each passing episode
Once you stop taking this seriously it becomes the greatest tv show of all time.
What I love about this show is the development of the Characters and the actors. I don't like the musical parts because it seems like filler, but any show has some flaws. The story flattened a lot in S3 and S4... I don't know now what they are going to plan.
honestly I have to say don't even read the mean rude nasty comments just focus on the positive ones, also if i may make on suggestion it would be that later in season 4 or early season 5 bitty and jug head have a nice night out then the next 2 days Betty gets morning sickness and tells veronica then V makes Betty take a pregnancy test and it turns out positive and she waits until her mom accidentally blabs about it to Betty at Pop's and doesn't realize jug head,Archie, and V are all standing right there......i think it would be interesting please look at this comment and maybe consider it unless you have something else planned then i get it but great job on the show over all.
The best show in the world!!
Loved seasons 1 and 2. Season 3 is a little to weird and not as good as 1 and 2.
I like it! Reminds me of 13 Reasons Why? Even has some characters that are in both.
I like it! Reminds me of 13 Reasons Why? Even has some characters that are in both.
This show is more overrated than 13rw
That’s how bad it is
Season 2 episode 20 fangs got killed and now I’ve just watched season 3 episode 9 and fangs is still in the show what the hell is going on did they forget he was killed or something or did they just think we wouldn’t remember
This series is just phenomenal. Some says it's a bit predictable and doesn't have enough depth to its storylines but watching it for myself I can definitely say that it is none of those things. The characters are complex and delivered perfectly well by the actors. It incorporates a lot of genres in such a seamless way that you can't help but be enthralled with the story. I love the chemistry of the characters. Platonic and romantic relationships within the story makes it all the more realistic and relatable for the viewing audiences. I finished seasons 1 and 2 and lost a huge amount of sleep. And now I am obsessing over the coming of the next season. Can't wait for season 3!
The little I’ve seen of the second season feels a little bit off-the-rails, but the first season was delectable. I love the dark take on the Archie-verse and I also love seeing heartthrobs from the 80′s as the grown-ups. I also just love a good teen drama.
Great show. Although I kind of hate Archie and Veronica
Loving this show. Jason's fathers wig is ridiculous.
After i watched first episode i wasnt that impressed! But after watching all the episodes so far, its not going to win awards or nothing but it has gotten much better!
Riverdale is giving me a feel of Once Upon a Time. The same characters you're familiar with but a completely different back story. Archie is a wannabe musician, Jughead's an aspiring writer, Veronica is penniless, Dilton is a boy scout and Weatherbee feels intelligent and strict rather than the jovial kind. Betty and Pop still feel the same. Overall, this one is much darker than the comics.

The CW network attempts to simulate mystery with depth, unfortunately it didn't work. Bad teen dramas are bad teen dramas, but, at least the kids get to practice acting — maybe with luck they’ll even get skilled at it... or be in something with talented writers. If not, they'll wind up as yesteryear's teen actors playing parents, teachers, coaches and law enforcement officers in future mediocre CW teen dramas like the token adults in "Riverdale".
