watched 6 so far...bloody great...keep up the violence...Jack is back!
I missed an action TV show like this since banshee
Please Amazon, for the love of all things good, renew the show for a second season.
The character of Reacher has the personality of a mannequin. An autistic mannequin. A muscular autistic mannequin.
He walks around, occasionally fights, and spouts Sherlock Holmes like insights. The show doesn't have any real plot or pont to it.
I actually closed my eyes during the prison fight scene so I wouldn't have to see the violence. It"s not like Banshee, where the fighting was for integral plot reasons. This is just to show fighting.
I don't hate the show, but also didn't like anything about it.
Fantastic. Tom Cruise has been erased.
After the dreadful films with Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher this was a welcome change, I really enjoyed it and it was pretty true to both the book and the characters.
I was so afraid that this show was going to be too cheesy or to glib or to cliché. It was very compact but I loved all the characters and even enjoyed the baddies. It's not remotely realistic but what a fun ride. Reminds me of my favorite adventure books: Mack Bolan: The Executioner. Anyone read those books?
One of the few instances where Twilight was indeed a better love story.
Apart from that.. Ritchson never changes expression for 8 episodes, characters and villains are cut with the chainsaw (in that there is more depth and character development in a McDonald's commercial), out of the verbal banters just a couple in the whole series actually hit (the others are low level action movie stuff).
The mother calls Reacher.. Reacher. Not Jack. Joe and Reacher. WTF
Good things: fighting sequences are cool all along, final ep aside (inexplicably).
Average action series for when you wanna unplug your mind, it does its work but it has none of those higher level series refinements. Basically better than your NCIS type, more or less like Hawaii 5-0 (without the single episode arc storyline), not even close to stuff like Bosch.
70% of the 7-8-9/10 reviews are influenced by the fact that people are excited that this Reacher is as big and physically imposing as he's described in the books. Or the usual sensitive conservative bros who just like not having any social commentary.
I could see a 7/10, anything more than that it's just random voting
In the first fight or so, someone sliced Reacher's jacked on the back, and he fixed it with a piece of tape. Somehow, even after changing clothes multiple times per episode, he had to wear the same taped jacked once in a while throughout the entire season just to show viewers that he is not invulnerable. Otherwise, you wouldn't even think about him getting a scratch. They should have called it "Untouchable Colossus vs. Corrupt Village".
New favorite show. Period.
My wife doesn't always like the action movies and shows that I like, and she just reads books while we "watch" TV. For Reacher, the book is down and she's all in. It's that good. Then again maybe she just finds Alan Ritchson too hot to ignore - either way at least she watches it with me!
After seeing this it's hard to imagine Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher, but honestly he did a good Jack Reacher as a role but he just doesn't fit the physical description. If I had to choose between the Reacher movies or the TV show I would take the show, Ritchson just is that good in it.
Tried to like this given it has so many great reviews but it’s just not doing it for me. A big tough bloke, with all the personality of plant pot (I heard they considered replacing him with a plank of wood with a face drawn on it for S2), who struts around spouting tough guy sound bites, muttering theories of deduction that would put Sherlock Holmes to shame and getting into punch ups. Problem is, that’s it!! There’s nothing else. The other actors that have anything by way of a scripted part are clearly just there as fall guys / props to make the plank look good. The ENDLESS testosterone hoze down monologue gets SUPER tiresome REAL fast. I’ve had more enjoyment watching grass grow!! Binned.
Great series I hope they make more seasons
Faithful to the book, but if you're like me then that basically means a lot of procedural 'point A - point B'/following breadcrumbs type of stuff punctuated by some impressive action sequences. Is it worth the time? tbh I started skipping ahead about halfway through to get the good parts and yeah, the good parts are good and the other bits weren't terribly missed so sure, have at it!
I can't decide whether it being easy to predict word for word much of the dialogue in this series is a good or bad thing. I might add that I've read none of the books, yet found the script incredibly predictable like a children's show. I suppose he's like a one-man A Team complete with corny wise-cracks. Nice to see a main character hero on the autistic spectrum
Can't wait for this. Although I'm a bit worried about Nick Santora being behind it, I really don't like the way most of his shows are run, but I absolutely love their pick for Reacher. It still hurts me to think Tom Cruise was Reacher...
Reacher and Roscoe characters are cast perfectly. The show reminds me of Dexter. I'm only two episodes in, might binge the whole first season this weekend.
Update: As I suspected, ended up binge watching the entire first season. This show is awesome. Makes the movies (which I really enjoyed) look pale in comparison. The action sequences were orchestrated perfectly. I can't wait for the next seasons.
A good surprise! I thought it was going to be a dumb cringy popcorn action show, but turned out to be just what it was promising. Just some action show, with a decent story, acting and dialogues.
If they go for a second season, I'd like even better action scenes, for example I think punisher or daredevil had better fight scenes.
Well we finally get the Reacher we all deserved, Alan does an excellent job bringing the 6'5 Major to live.
I still think having Nick Santora as the show runner wasn't the best move and having someone like Carlton Cause and Graham Roland wilud have made this much better. But it is what it is and the fact remains it is a giant step from Tom Cruise awful Reacher. So for this Reacher fan, Isay keep those seasons coming, there are plenty of books to go through.
While this show is entertaining but sometimes less entertaining at times, I think there's a lot of room for improvement, and that's not a subtle way of saying, 'It was bad.' That's simply optimism.
But while I'm on that subject, these are some things that come to mind of "needing" improvement:
The fight sequence aspect of things could use some work. Some of them are navigated and presented as an even playing field. Having Reacher barrel through most of his opponents like butter would be seen as "boring." Either have him do that or don't consider the aspect of leveling the playing field too important. I think the middle ground would be the most preferable.
While I thought the score part of the soundtrack was good, some of the actual songs could've been better. I think the ones that didn't "deliver" as much as others were some of the 'Blues-genre' songs. And I know that those songs were in there because of Reacher's love for that genre of music, but that doesn't mean I'm Reacher. At the very least, I feel like the first three or four episodes had a good selection/variety of songs. But when there's anything, there's also an endless road of improvement.
I hope the future antagonists will be better. I guess that depends on the novels/the ones future seasons of this show will adapt. It's down to the people behind this show to present them well. I thought our first addition of antagonists was underwhelming.
Lastly, I hope future storylines are more engaging, as this first one was a bit lackluster. Every beginning is slightly rough, I guess, and it seems evident that will be the case since there are plenty of novels; the future storylines will be more engaging, but you never know.
As far as "more positive," so to speak, aspects are concerned:
Alan Ritchson's performance as Jack Reacher was pretty decent, although I feel like Tom Cruise's portrayal was better, acting-wise, and how the character came across because of that, despite having only possibly watched the second movie. But that could be because Tom Cruise is 'that guy,' and I'm likely in the minority. I'm sure most people like this portrayal better; a huge part of that may be because Alan fits the physical aspect of the character a lot more than Tom. I couldn't care less regarding who's better and all that: both are decent.
The score was excellent. I mentioned it in my review for the first season. While the number of ones that seemed to resonate with me was "only" two, I don't think that takes a hit at the entire score. Even though determining how much a score/specific cues within it objectively impacted what you're watching is a hard thing to do, and I haven't done it with this show, there's no doubt in my mind that Tony Morales' score probably added a lot. Subtly and inconspicuously. So I hope he returns for the future of this show or someone as efficient.
There isn't much else to say. I think this show has the potential of a long life, as there are plenty of novels. This show is by no means 'excellent.' It's 'enjoyable.' And people seem to like it quite a lot already, even though the first novel to be adapted was probably one of the weaker ones; I don't know. If so, I imagine that's a good sign for this show's future, although the novel series probably doesn't elevate THAT far up.
Aspects like the storylines probably won't improve that much, but as long as the enjoyment is still there, that's enough for me. And I hope "lesser" aspects like the fight choreography, action sequences, cinematography, etc., will be consistently improved. The beginning of those aspects for us wasn't bad. It was decent. But the future iterations can improve even further.
Regardless of how all that turns out, I doubt the future of this show will ever be 'not enjoyable to watch.' The level of that may fluctuate back and forth: but disappear altogether? I doubt it.
Up until the last episode ,which really went conventional with all the typical plot devices that shows/movies of this genre use, the rest of the series was exceptionally refreshing. The pacing was perfect, great story, the chemistry was pretty decent, and hats off to Ritchson who really did a great job dead panning the comedy. What was even better was there didn't even seem to be any of the woke non-sense that permeates most everything these days. Thumbs up.
I'm a big fan of the Lee Child Reacher books having read them all. Didn't know Alan Ritchson at all but perfect as Reacher as described in the books, still baffles me to think Tom Cruise thought he was like the character. This series follows along very closely with one of the books which makes me excited follow up series will be commissioned to follow the adventures. Wish I hadn't watched these all so quickly, but i'm quite sure I will watch again before next one comes along.
this guy is so big wtf, what a unit
As we say.... "A good skop and donder!! " Nice to have a good action series without any woke agenda etc... Just good old fashioned Moloko & Ultraviolence.
Jack Reacher has the right mix of Action and Thrill, you get a Jack Ryan type of action with the side of The Rock size character.
Alan Ritchson is a big guy who I wasn't sure will pull it off but he was perfect for the roll, a bad ass special forces investigator who is smart and lethal, his brooding attitude came off perfectly with the right characters which made for a thrilling 6 episode season, I'm really looking forward to more.
Feels good watching a good action tv show that doesn’t try to create some stupid twist or doesn’t have some crazy cast which ruin the show. Good acting by everyone involved.
Enjoyable and not far off how I imagined the book as I read it. They nailed this interpretation and it’s very faithful to the book.
Neagley was perfectly cast also and you can see the tight lipped make folk work for a response if they aren’t asking the right questions (both Reacher & Neagley do this so I’d suggest it’s their gift). The key is the attention to detail which from the books you know has saved our anti-hero on many occasions.
Please confirm season 2 & 3 could use the short stories for flashbacks etc if episodes need padding out…
Really a great show. I've read the books over the years and this follows in line with them. Alan Ritchson plays a great Reacher. One of the better series I've seen in a while. The action was good, the crime mystery kept us interested and the supporting cast all worked and played off each other very well. Sign me up for a 2nd season.
Never read the books but is Reacher supposed to appear to be on the spectrum?
Well, 3 episodes to build up a small, unlikely, and oddly assorted investigative task force. The pace at which this intriguing crime series unfolds isn't bad at all. Very enjoyable.
Been waiting a long time for this just because they filmed part of it in the small town I live in in Ontario Canada and my wife and I are dying to see what happens at the locations they filmed lol
Hoping it isn't a flop compared to the movie but will go into it open minded and try my best to not to compare the two.
This is jack reacher can’t wait for the next season
Expecting Season 2 to start in Spring 2023, as they say they started filming Sept 2022.
The first season of this was really strong. It's not the most well-made television program ever, but it's definitely watchable, and main character actors are quite solid. Alan Ritchson is great as Reacher. For a character who can be monotone, he's quite funny, charming, and compelling in his nature. Willa Fitzgerald was an excellent choice as his partner this first season. Her acting ability covers a wide-range of ground, and she's as tough as nails as she is soft as silk. She really defined her character well. Malcolm Goodwin was also strong addition to the cast. He played a strong character who did an excellent job of looking outside of himself to find answers to a befuddling case. I also really loved Maria Sten in her role. She was tremendous as Reacher's only "friend." Although her part was limited in this first season, I'm hoping to see more of her in the seasons to come.
Overall, the script was interesting, as it intermingled many subtle layers to bring the story to life. It wasn't necessarily an original story, but it was told in a way that kept me engaged. I cared about the characters and what happened to them, and to this point, I liked that the writers introduced some side characters, who were the focus of parts of a few different episodes, that were designed to get me to care about them, which I did. In too many of these types of shows, these side characters are introduced, then quickly forgotten. In this show, however, these characters were introduced, and we were able to follow their progression through the remainder of the story to see the outcome of their character arc. I really appreciated that aspect of the writing, and I felt that it was the sign of a strong writer's room.
:heart:x7
This was good. This was fun. This was sometimes funny. This was violent. I liked it. I can see why so many Reacher fans complained when midget Tom Cruise played the character - Reacher is much more imposing and menacing at a 6'4" & 300lbs.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
this show is so well made, script, photo, actors top notch a must watch if you life brain suspense stuff and smart ending
Absolutely loved this series and I can’t wait for the next. Alan Ritchson was so good as Reacher, exactly as I’d expect from the books. In fact so close I had to down score the Tom Cruise films!!
It is a good show if you like this kind of "Rambo" movies and series. But the last episode was a total cringe disaster.
This is honestly a really dumb show
But it's elevated a whole lot by an extremely self aware script and a stellar cast that really sell every part of the show. It's just a really shlocky and tropey action flick spread over 8 episodes but it's pretty tight and the action is really well shot, brutal and well executed. You can honestly turn off your brain and simply have a good time with this one cause there's not much fluff and distractions going on. It gets straight to the point with what you want and has a likeable set of characters that you want to see through
Edit: S2 was equally dumb and equally self aware as anything in S1 and therefore, equally entertaining. Frankly, I'm not sure how they've made it this consistent. I would definitely watch at least 2 more seasons of this
I am so glad that Alan Ritchson got his own show. That guy deserves it. I kinda felt sorry for the guy seeing him in dumb roles. His appearance is just perfect for the role of Jack Reacher, also I can say only respect for all the work he probably did just to gain weight and make that body for the series. Truly professional. The show was really good. I hope they do more seasons.
Ever since I read the books I was waiting that someone would put some decent stuff out of this. They nailed it.
Terrible in all the right ways!
Sheer popcorn in the way the books are & the Cruise films don't quite stack up.
Corny one-liners from a block of granite is exactly what you expect from Reacher, and this series delivers in spades.
loved it, was better than the film.
Never read the source material but this one is a good action crime series. Love that Amazon has this kind of shows on their platform. This was better than Banshee.
this is perfect!
dumb, stupid fun from start to finish - exactly the popcorn I was expecting from the books.
no overly-complicated characters, predictable plot, corny one-liners, fun action: everything you could ask for in a rainy Sunday-afternoon dad-nap!
As entertaining as the Tom Cruise films were, I just never could buy him as Reacher, but this show hits all the notes just right
Great Series. The casting was spot on and the storyline was interesting. Definitely looking forward to Season 2. Reacher is a Funny Bad Ass Guy!!
I might only watch it Bcos I wanna be just like Reacher.
Brings the seasons to a xlose and overall a good watch.
Totally washes away the Tom Cruise version. Action, violence and Reacher is an absolute unit. This human tank lives up to the Reacher of the books
great cast but dialogue and story telling just felt a bit over the top especially compared to the book. felt too much like comedy rather than action
Never going to watch as long as Alan Ritchson is on the show, or for that matter anything he's involved with. Turned me off with all his Trump bashing.
show is fun to watch but the acting is difficult to watch. I'm not sure if Richson is being directed to act this way, or if he's just terrible. the dialogue doesn't help at all. we also don't need every little thing broken down so we understand. the writing def assumes that the viewers are stupid. Richton really seems chosen simply for the way he looks. the acting is really really bad. he drags down the cast and the writing drags down the rest. it's kind a way weaker version of The Terminal List.
There are reasons I like this show and reasons I don't.
The fights and ass-kicking are fun to watch. The "hobo" lifestyle is plausible and part of Reacher's character.
But...
Some of the dialogue, story telling and fundamentals are just hokey and not realistic. The plot devices are old and predictable and some of the fundamentals are just wrong. Part of this is the ex-military/ex-cop in me over-analyzing things but it is bothersome.
Leaps and bounds better than the movies. Alan is the highlight of the show, and it's pretty clear. Other characters have a chance to grow, but with the way the show is written - taking us to a new location and story each season, we don't get much time to really appreciate the other characters. It's Jack's world - we're just living in it, and so are the other characters.
I absolutely loved season 1. Season 2 not so much. Loads of plotholes and totally illogical scenes, not very intelligent dialogues and just pointless violence that really seems specifically setup to become a violet fight. Its just nothing like season 1.
Season 1 - 9.5 out of 10
Season 2 - 5.5 out of 10
Great series, love that it isn't predictable like other shows (some places were a bit), indeed it has unrealism but, most shows do, no biggie for me. Characters feel unique :)
This season is pure fantasy and a departure from any resemblance of reality.
That said, this show was always character driven and they are as strong as ever.
Turn off your reasoning, grab the popcorn, then sit back and enjoy the ride.
Fantastic action packed this guy in unbreakable! Bring on the next season!
They prematurely agreed to a season 3. If season 3 is as bad as season 2, there will not be a season 4..
10/10
I am in love with Alan as reacher, way better than Tom. After season 1 I was hooked, no I can’t stop thinking about jack. One of the best tv series from the past decade. I saw someone else say: the only problem with season 2 is that it isn’t long enough. I support that!
Reacher seems to be more like a murderer then anything else. He could spare some lives. Not nice, Reacher. Not nice.
Only one problem with Season 2. It wasn't long enough!!
great action crime show definitely worth it
Second season is just a good as the FIRST.
tank with brain . that's all
is it just me or is season 2 just going through the motions...not enough violence and too much time on the plot....mmmmm enjoyed season 1 more?
An adaptation of a Lee Child novel that holds its own charm. Reacher embodies the physical presence the character demands, a notable departure from the portrayal in the Tom Cruise movies. While I remain uncertain about the lead actor's performance, Reacher was never a character of great depth, and he convincingly fulfills the physical aspect. The plot, slightly expanded to suit the eight-episode duration, is engaging and intricate, enhancing the storyline from the book. The action sequences maintain a decent level of intensity throughout.
It's ok, watchable enough. But in Season 2 it's lost some of its spark.
The fights are pretty slow and badly choreographed now.
Also I thought the point was supposed to be that reacher is the most intelligent guy in the room, but the guy just comes across as big, dumb and first to violence.
When they do try to show intelligence it's so badly written it all feels like the first line from a Wikipedia article
Season 2 is shaping up to be even better than season 1. I love it.
Season 2 has started and the first episode gets you straight in the chin like a Reacher jab.
Great start, keep them coming.
Allan keeps doing an amazing job as Major Jack Reacher.
One of the better ones. I really do like the show. At some points it sounds unbelievable, but still it is a good one.
Such a better actor than Tom Cruise and more realistic as Mr. Reacher himself go Jack.
It's incredible how bad and inconsistent their southern accents are.
Aside that, really enjoyed the series.
A good action thriller series with likeable characters.
So far so good. It’s kinda like watching Walking Tall
Finished watching Reacher this week.
Finally a show with depth, some dry wit that punches you in the side when you're not expecting it and some moments that are quite touching, again when you least expect it.
Reacher, the character is good example of this series... it's not a character with a well crafted sponge costume on, it is a character that you get what you see, brawn, a unit that can crash through obstacles to crush his target.
If you like action, disappointed with flimsy stories and characters and are completely over current trends... Welcome to your new favourite show!
Ok, this was a surprise. Interesting story, great casting (I have zero problems believing that a punch from Reacher can kill you), the cast works well together, the story is paced nicely with minimum filler, and they don't behave like idiots. I expected an ending in the style of Commando, and that's what I got . If I had to find some issues, the flashbacks were pointless, and the antagonist is not fleshed out that much. But this does not take away from how good this show overall is.
A series that is similar to The Punisher and Banshee! This was so entertaining to watch. I'm looking forward to see season 2!
Good show with awesome fighting.

They sure do use a hell of a lot of animal feed
