Claire prepares to her exit strategy, she's has planned it out and is ready to leave. She'll use the Oath celebration as cover for her escape, but as a guest of the Lord, she must attend. Just a minor obstacle.... or so she thinks. Almost on the way out she is caught. Luckly for her Jamie is there to help, which he is more than happy to. But by doing so he places himself in a difficult spot. There is politics at play, esp since Jamie is related to the Mackenzie via his mom... so they do not share the same clan, though they are kinsmen. But being the highborn he is, Jamie is able to manuver it with grace and dignity.
This whole exchange is a great look at the large politics at play, beyond Claire's story. There is so much history and conflict that we, and Claire, are yet to be aware of, but are of great importance. Now the question of who is Jamie loyal to? Who is his clan? What position are they in?
Jamie, though highborn, is working as a stableboy because this castle is the only safe place for him. Outside of these lands, there is a price on him. He must adjust to his situation.
The second part of the ep focuses on the hunt for a wild boar. It is extremely dangerous to the point that Claire must come along. As she tends to a dying man, we see Claire's skills from the War, being able to stay calm under pressure, tend to the physical wounds but also consol a dying man. A glimpse into who Claire was before Scotland.
Great editing in the intro, escape and hog scenes to create tension. The pace is steadily moving forward, while the writing keeps giving us tidbits of information into the local society as Claire tries to walk her way through it. Overall solid episode.
Fav: Claire tending to the dying man, felt like this was almost a call back to her days on the front, how she would have cared for wounded and dying soldiers.
