Our Flag Means Death 2022

It's a crime this show got cancelled, especially given its popularity

This is a pirate rom-com between Stede Bonnet (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) and it is so absolutely delightful. It takes a few episodes for the pair to come together, but once they do, the show is dynamite. And I am 100% serious when I call it a romance. Thank you David Jenkins and co for one of my new favorite shows!

my little gay ass really loved this and i just want stede and ed to go onto their little boat and use their little spoons and have little lunches and little treasure hunts forever

loading replies

I so, so, SO loved this! Hope it'll come back for more

loading replies

They could have done the good old queerbaiting like everyone else, but they didn't and that makes me so happy!

I want season 2 now with all those chaotic, weird and broken pirates.

loading replies

a pirate gay show was everything I didn't know I needed to feel good

Season One was amazing. wonderful show even with the strange gay pirate romance. waited for season 2 and when we finally started watching took everything we had to get to episode 6, thinking it's gonna get better, awesomeness of S1 has to return. sadly it didn't. S2 is literally just gay & queer for the sake of being gay & queer and we couldn't finish it.

Taika Waititi is a GOD among peasants- everything he touches is my favourite and OFMD is a masterpiece of humour (I mean- those who get it/get it), but also has so much depth about race/power structures/ queerness.

I need more shows about queer elders in my life. This slaps -1000/10 - where is my season 2?

loading replies

This is my favorite thing in the whole world right now. I might actually unalive myself if we don't get season 2

loading replies

Silly. Tries too hard. I gave up after 1 episode.

loading replies

First season was decent and focused on comedy. Second season of completely focused on a gay romance. It's a shame , it was funny once. No longer.

This show is the best thing that ever happened to me. If you're wondering whether to watch it, the answer is absolutely yes. The first series has been out in its entirety for a little over a month and I've rewatched so many times. I'm recommending it to everyone I know, and now those I don't. You won't regret it!!

I had a false start. Watched the first episode when it came out and gave up, just wasn't feeling the humor, the characters, anything. But a critic I really respect loved it, so I decided to give it another shot, and boy, I am so happy I did. Binged the whole thing in about three days and, oh, my, what a roller coaster of emotions. This show managed to fill my heart with hope and joy, and then crush it in such a beautiful way, I'm not even sorry it did. Now come on, HBO, how is this not renewed yet? Leaving us hanging like this is just plain cruel.

Delightfully progressive pirate romance/adventure/comedy with top-notch production design, impeccable costuming and easily one of the best casts in telespace.
Mostly vibes and tablesetting for a(hopefully) third season but I enjoyed every gay minute of this.

The show that keeps on giving <3
How's it that witnessing the eccentric misadventures of this gang of oddball, gay pirates makes me feel sooo single? I, too, long to celebrate Calipso's birthday slow dancing with my piratey boo while Izzy gently croons "La vie en rose" in the background...

Starts super strong and so enjoyable till you get to S1E9, at which point the show takes a nose dive into a gaymance comedy. WTF! Did they fire the entire creative staff and hire woke people?

And season 2 just doubles down on it all. Exploring each others feelings. Everyone is gay. Mental health issue.

Why? What a waste of an amazing and original idea that could’ve skyrocketed.

Anyone that’s woke and into gayness will love this shit. The rest of the 85% population will be like “…these mofos pulled the rug out under my feet…”

Wanted to love it. Couldn't watch 15 minutes of it. Just silly. Not for me.

Many people who left comments here say this is a funny comedy. That makes me notice how people see the world differently.

This show may not be for everyone. The humor can be hit or miss, and some viewers may find the show's over-the-top antics to be too silly or cartoonish.

However, if you're looking for a lighthearted and entertaining series then its definitely worth a shot.

Also, the show's soundtrack, which features an eclectic mix of period and modern music, adds to the overall fun and playful vibe.

The first few episodes were pretty funny in a very slapstick kind of way. It then got dumber and dumber with each passing episode until they try to throw it a lifeline through an unnecessary (and very forced agenda feeling) gay leading plot line. Once it went gay then it was all about being gay, not about being pirates or even about being remotely funny. Let's face it, none of these actors are good actors, they just can be occasionally funny on screen, but even that goes out the window pretty fast.

So fun & such a solid performance from the cast! Hoping there is a season 2.

Such a lovely show. Perfectly balances humour and sad themes. All the characters have unique and interesting personalities and it's fascinating to watch the development of Stede & Ed's relationship on screen. Really hope there'll be more of this show, it's my new fave.

I am leaving this show because I couldn't find it as funny

My favorite show ever, it's a romcom so I think someone should add "romance" to the list of genres. Can't wait for season 2 in a few days, everyone stream it on MAX!

[HBO Max] A disappointing foray into the pirate genre by the usually successful Taika Waititi that feels spotty, sometimes too silly, sometimes too boring. And although it manages to include some notable cameos like Rory Kinnear and directors like Fernando Frías and Nacho Vigalondo, none take advantage of superficial characters and flimsy scripts. More interesting and fun in a S2 that completely adopts the tropes of romantic comedies, and that manages to develop particularly entertaining final episodes.

HILARIOUS! I did not expect to enjoy this so much. Looking forward to next season.

There is a moment in episode 9 that I didn't see coming that ties the whole series together. Episode 10 just left me wanting more. Bravo to the entire amazing cast, especially Calico Jack!

Occasionally funny and occasionally fun, there is still a lot to be desired here. It is well made and will objectively appeal to many. Unfortunately, it is not something I will return to as I am not sure if it scratches any particular itch I have when I go to watch content.

Average Season Review: 7.25/10

Recommendation: Skip (For HBO Comedy Fans)

Such a sweet, heart-warming, funny show. Gonna miss it so much, especially Izzy

loading replies

Cancelled, and rightly so. Taika Woke-titties runs another show in to the ground with his wokeness.

loading replies

Be warned this is an alternate fantasy show about a world full of gays who happen to be pirates.

Nothing wrong with that, but makes you wonder how they reproduce given that IVF is not a thing in this fantasy world.

Coming back in October? https://movieweb.com/our-flag-means-death-season-2-sets-premiere-date/

I have to wonder about why:

COUNTRY: Andorra

Is that mistake, tax dodge, subtle humour (pirate series made in a land locked country?)

if you show me a picture of the show and say to me that are mägo de oz members i'd believe you
