Well .. that was an uncomfortable watch. Jessica goes to stay with her colonialist friends on a plantation in Jamaica. At one point of them threatens to shoot a Jamaican man and says “I’ll put a bullet in your black heart”. There’s a lot of the “savage natives” trope on display here, which feels kind of incongruous considering it was filmed in 1989. Perhaps they were trying to pay homage to Agatha Christie or Arthur Conan Doyle, but even so it’s pretty hard to watch 30 years later.
