very disappointing season 2 .. the whole Elektra-Storyline was so unnecessary and annoying. Liked the first half of the season, then it went to shit more and more. 6,5/10
A lot more comicbooky than the first season, but it still manages to ground everything in the gritty, brooding tone the show has set for itself.
There are many improvements compared to the first season: the action’s better (and there’s a lot more of it), the production values, directing, music and cinematography are all improved, and the pacing is a lot tighter (thanks to splitting the season into two storylines).
Elodie Yung and Jon Bernthal are two great new characters, and fill in the gasp left by Wilson Fisk quite nicely.
The acting is once again fantastic. There isn’t a single weak link in the show, and everybody can bring it during their emotional scenes.
Its biggest problem is that the writing isn’t as tight and focused as season 1.
The stuff with The Punisher is great, but the storyline with The Hand isn’t nearly as interesting. You never get a good sense of what the deal with this organization is, or why we’re supposed to care about them (an issue they never managed to fix with The Defenders). Still, you’re never bored watching those scenes, because the action is so good, and you’re invested in Matt and Elektra.
Also, it is a little dumber and nonsensical than season 1. For example, Stick is used as a major plot convenience, Matt Murdock takes people out without his costume, Matt and Elektra get away from the baddies by pretending to bang when they’re about to get caught (you can’t be that cliche in a show that’s this self-serious), all of which are small nitpicks by themselves, but a lot of it adds up and it becomes an issue.
I’d say it’s about as good as season 1, they fixed the main issues of that season, but created a few new ones in the process.
8/10
the first four episodes are basically perfection and is basically a perfect story. the stuff with the hand and elektra does make the story suffer though, everything with the punisher is great however.
If I’m being honest I still think season two surpasses the first.
Daredevil seems to always know the difference between what's right or wrong but he can't seem to choose between two women. For most of the season he pushes Elektra away because he says he loves Karen but he only go back to her when he thinks Elektra is dead.
As if it was even possible, I am now even more excited for the second season of Daredevil after watching all of Jessica Jones! Can't wait to see more of Matt, Foggy, Karen, and Claire as well as the additions of Elektra and Frank Castle! Maybe we will even see some of Jessica and Luke!
I wouldn´t say this is better than the first season. That would have been a tough thing to achieve. But it sure isn´t a let down. It´s a different plot but still, in my book, by far the best of the Marvel shows by a wide margin. The main characters are so well written and the performances, again, superb. Daredevil is such a deep and rich character and I hope they can do the same with The Punisher in his own show bacause I love what I´ve seen so far from him. It´s always the characters with a dark spot that are the most interesting.
I don´t know where to put Elektra. I´ve hoped for here to come back to screen but so far not sure what to make of her. Is she like that in the comics ? A spoiled, rich little b**** ?
The romance between Matt and Karen never worked for me. It´s that kind of thing you saw coming from day one yet hoping it wouldn´t surface. When it does you know it wouldn´t, couldn´t, work.
With Bernthal as The Punisher they added another strong actor to an already great cast. He really sells Frank Castle. Also, we see D'Onofrio again who ownes every second he´s on screen.
In this show there are very long scenes at times but they never feel long or boring because those actors fill every second of them with life. Even if you just focus on someones face for seconds without any dialogue there is so much going on on their faces. That´s what you get when you have a great cast.
Despite some good stuff, this season was a real chore to get through and sloppy in so many way. It was full of incredible moments - most of them featuring the Punisher or Karen - but overall nothing was very cohesive. Elektra was just awful, not only a poor casting choice but mostly her writing was of such a lower quality than everything else. Additionally, she reduced the characters around her by association. The random faceless ninja army was incredibly lazy and painfully dull to watch. As wonderfully choreographed all the fight scenes are, they begin to feel very repetitive and the enemies are just cannon fodder that you can't care about.
But we also had Frank Castle, who was just a powerhouse but made all of the other plot lines uninteresting by comparison. I adored the scene between him and Karen in the diner. The violence and gore levels were stepped up big time and had an impact, earning this season the 18 certificate. In that respect, there is no way these Netflix series can ever mesh with the movies, the tones are just so different that these would have to pull back massively.
Karen emerged as the most watchable character for me. The court trial was gripping, and her investigation and emerging confidence was fascinating, although her sudden transformation into a journalist didn't ring true for a second. I feel like episodes are being written by different people pulling in different directions. Fisk should have been a great return for the character, but he only came across as immature and the performance was peculiar.
The season was also too long, it just dragged in so many places. The Yakuza/Black Sky rubbish was dull. I cheered when Elektra was killed off, but those final shots of her apparent resurrection have killed my appetite for more.
For the most part this season was great. I just can't get fully on board with the whole blood sucking ninja cult thing and the zombie children. I would have preferred if they had just kept the season revolving more around the Punisher. I really love his character and how he makes Matt question his own morals and the way he deals with things.
Whats in the bag Matt? What an ending... This was such a good season, I need season 3, what is Karen going to do/say?
Great season. Much better than season one. I can't wait for more of this show.
Very enjoyable second series. The addition of The Punisher was a great idea. Wasn't so sure about the series introducing Elektra but she grew on me. Great to see some surprise characters too.
Well done Marvel, well done Netflix.
Pefect. In every single way.
Great second season overall. Finished it a few hours ago and all I can say is that I like it better than the first one.
It has some flaws, of course, like no main villain throughout the whole of the season but there are those moments that "connect the dots" and tie up loose ends from the previous season. The mystery element is better, the action is more frequent and unlike the first season the latter episodes did not slow down.
There are also the great cliffhangers we see at the very end that will definitely keep us hyped until the next season arrives.
Oh yeah... after I have seen all the episodes it no longer smells - it reeks of a Punisher series!
While season 2 has it's slow moments; there's definitely more action than season 1. It's not flawless but still Marvel at it's best. Spoiler: While despite Elektra being done right; she seems conveniently there to keep Matt busy and the action going after Frank is arrested.
Not the most solid plot this time since there's no major villain we're waiting for Matt to confront in the season finale like with King Pin. Throws a lot of great action at us but a lot of it is Daredevil and Elektra vs random thugs and we all know who will win. Matt's scenes with the Punisher have mostly been great though. While one is straight from the comics. It's not as solid as season 1 but pretty near and deserves higher than 75% good reviews at Rotten Tomatoes.
There's no sophomore slump for Daredevil as season 2 amps up the action & the stakes, and with two jam-packed storylines, avoids the central flaw of most Netflix shows of this era by not feeling too long or stretched too thin. There's improvement in almost every area, with the characters evolving beyond their origin story. Even Deborah Ann Woll gets to (mostly) drop her whiney, nervous take on Karen Page and really come into her own as a person with a purpose in a plot that makes sense. The addition of the assassin Elektra is, well, electric. Elodie Yung kicks ass & cuts (emotionally) deep. Sparks practically fly off of the screen when she & Charlie Cox circle each other. But the Punisher in the room is Jon Bernthal who absolutely murders everyone in every scene he's in (save for Vincent D'onofrio). He's an unstoppable force as Frank Castle, bringing him to life in a way that is mesmerizingly raw and real. Where the show falls a little short is the utter lack of chemistry between Matt Murdock & Karen- which is most glaring when their scenes together come close to those between Daredevil & Elektra. Also, there's little to like about the lawyerly world. The trial is absurdly rushed & the courtroom scenes are laughable. And there's also the lack of a singular villain. This becomes all the more apparent when Vincent D'onofrio pops in as The Kingpin for an episode and we're reminded of how definitive his presence was to season 1. The Hand is cool, but there's no depth there. They're boogeymen- scary, but not frightening. That said, none of this detracts from the pure, unadulterated escapism of the show. This season is a fun, engaging watch, and as a bonus, it does a great job of expanding the "Defenders" universe by making connections to the other shows, yet still keeping its feet firmly on the ground.
maybe this'll get those hardcore fans of daredevil mad but i disliked season 1 (i only watched the first two episodes but still). frank castle's story is the only thing that keeps me watching throughout this season. i dont care about elektra or daredevil one bit. karen foggy and frank carry this season
Frank is right, Matt is wrong
punisher saved it. anticlimactic. weak plot.
An improvement from the first season but the last 3-4 episodes was just a three hour long kung-fu movie with a Daredevil talking with a more and more "mysterious" and fake deep voice for every scene that flies by. Can't say I'm looking forward to the next season. Especially since I know it's the one that got it cancelled...
Season 2 of Netflix’s Daredevil gets even more gritty and action-packed with the introduction of Elektra and the Punisher. When former Iraq veteran Frank Castle starts a war with the Irish mob to avenge the deaths of his family, Daredevil attempts to stop the bloodshed by capturing Castle; but things get more complicated when, as Matt Murdock, he takes Castle’s case to prevent him from getting the death penalty and uncovers a government conspiracy. Meanwhile Matt’s former girlfriend Elektra comes to town and stirs up some trouble of her own. Both Jon Bernthal and Elodie Yong give excellent performances and come to own their characters. And the writing and directing is really intense, and avoids a lot of typical superhero tropes. The storytelling is also incredibly well-done, tightly weaving multiple story threads throughout the season. Exciting and full of thrills, Season 2 of Daredevil gets darker and more compelling.
Very good and entertaining season, second half is less so than the first. Rewatching both seasons in few days makes it easy to compare the two, which makes me realize even with Elektra and The Punisher, both of which are awesome additions that I absolutely loved, I think the first season is still much better as a whole. Way more balanced and consistent with more focus on the title character. Which I think this show lacks sometimes.
Just simply blown away!
Jon Bernthal is the perfect Punisher.
And Punisher is the perfect Daredevil anti-hero.
If any one series deserves another season, this is definitely IT.
I wouldn't say no to an Elektra-Daredevil death match, either. :)
Lots of great moments, both in terms of action and storytelling, a wonderful take on the Punisher (he's got most of the great scenes) and a decent Elektra, but there's not enough stuff to fill 13 long episodes and as a result it feels stretched. And too many fights against anonymous enemies I couldn't possibly care about: they become tiresome and when the action that really matters came up I couldn't bear it anymore. Plus, it lacks focus and a strong antagonist, even though I gotta admit that following up the wonderful Wilson Fisk from season 1 was a tough task.
It's still a good series, really watchable, with strong production values and a couple of really great episodes at the beginning and near the end, but the rest would have been much better if the season was shorter, maybe around 8/9 episodes. And dear God, people, cheer up! Foggy is the only character that feels human, while being surrounded by depressed sociopaths.
Bonne ambiance et costume mais dardevil est un peux "mou"...
Matt et Foggy se sépare bon ami... le punisher est toujour la, Electra est morte mais dans un sarcofage de "la main", Matt dévoile à Karen qu'il est DD
There are not many villains I respect but watching this I felt nothing call fill the void left by Mr.Wilson Fisk from 1st Season. Season 2 was not as fun as the previous cause of Daredevil’s self-righteous bullshit in between but gets back on track before he goes all priest stuff. Quality show nevertheless and delivers some coolest kick ass fight sequences on Television which makes it really hard to believe that he is blind.
After finishing the second season I feel slightly disappointed, there was just too many things going on. Frank Castle was a great addition love the Punisher but the way his story was told and how little time they spent on him was a big miss. Season 2 should have been all about The Punisher and Daredevil conflict of how justice should be served in Hells Kitchen yet I felt their whole story arc was resolved in 2 episodes and then it was just jumping back and forth for the rest of the season. Foggy rarely featured bar a few court things which was disappointing but yet Karen got so much air time even switching professions so easily she became the most frustrating character to watch. At some stages she actually is telling Foggy and Matt how to go about Frank case which made no sense she is their secretary with no law experience and the seem to do what ever she wants which makes no sense, she then joins the paper getting her own office without ever writing a story it was a bit ridiculous.
I hope that The Punisher gets his own series as I felt in Season 2 of Daredevil he was all I wanted to see, don't get me wrong there was some great parts in the season but for me they all revolved around Frank. Hopefully Season 3 can go back to Daredevils own story as Season 2 spent too much time jumping between different characters.
2nd season seemed like a filler. Where 1st one was with main awesome, scary villain and all about defeating him to save NY, in this season all we saw was 3 lost souls trying to find where they belong and who they are. I would've been very happy if they've made first 5-6 episodes into whole season, because Punisher was that great and just nice too look at. After that they introduced us to Elektra.. hmm.. She was badass and it was gone, because they showed her past and since that moment she became weak or didn't met my expectations with all that backstory/legend. So 6-8th episodes were disappointment, until Fisk showed up and I almost cried out of joy. Fisk was awesome. Two episodes later we were back to square one full of everything that doesn't make sense yet, disappointment and predictable storylines. All in all I give it a solid 8 out of 10. First season was 11/10 and best superhero tv series.
P.S. Elektra why didn't you killed that old blind dude? He was so bad.
I think this might be the best show on TV since 24....

A MASSIVE improvement over a so-so first season, Daredevil never reaches the heights of Jessica Jones, but now stands as one of the strongest current shows. There are quite a few parallels to the later seasons of Arrow in plot and style, but Daredevil deals with the same issues much, much more skillfully. The new characters are welcome additions and incredibly well defined, with layered personalities and backstories. More of this, please!
