I'm a woman. I'm not a big fan of his looks by any stretch (but I could make it work), but if I were on the show, Rory would be my 100%. The "get 'er done" attitude and straightforward task-oriented approach he takes to romance, which I must assume he shares with everything else in life, is absolutely what I bring to the table as well. I've had very positive relationships with people who bring that attitude vs "but I felt this feeling".
Much like Jessica, I've dated guys like Barnett as well. Typically they are guys who think that every feeling and every fancy they have must be given voice and shared with the world. And just as typically, they are people pleasers and so say what they think the other person wants to hear so long as it has some small connection with their own thoughts, even if it isn't factually representative of the whole of their considered desires. Jessica dodged a bullet. Amber isn't going to find the support in him that she wants because he doesn't know how to be authentic and you cannot support if you cannot be authentic. I think LC would do well with him, though.

Jessica is the perfect example why some guys think of girls/women the way they do. She had "special" conversations both with Mark and Barnett, then she was surprised that after she made up her mind and chose the latter, she fell between two stools and got angry when Barnett played the same card on her as she did on Mark. The devoted guy got dumped by a woman who isn't even worthy of him (by what I saw, at least). Then when she's dumped, she goes back to the devoted guy.
And dudes keep falling for Jessicas.
On a funnier note... Is Rory every guy's best friend or relationship coach or what? xD I wanna see him spitting that wisdom to girls too, not just the guys!
