Graham Norton is a no brainer to host this show. Aisling Bea is the only contestant that I was familiar with so it was only by the contestants comments that I got some idea of who the others are. As is often the case, you get 1 or 2 that aren’t very active and need to be actively weeded out by declaring that anybody who hasn’t made another person laugh gets penalised or eliminated. It may just be the editing but it appeared that in that period they didn’t get much of a chance to make the others laugh because people were introduced to do that job. When they finally declare who is eliminated due to not having caused any laughs, it seemed harsh. It’s a necessary evil of the show but can be done much better.
There were some great bits and some of the funniest people got eliminated too early. Some others were funny but clearly not the absurd physical comedians that tend to prosper in the various iterations of LOL around the world.
Ireland seems a natural fit for the format so hopefully there will be another season and it will be a step up (not that this one was bad).
