When the guy said his/Olivia's father died 10 years ago (before the show), they could have at least said 6 or 7, because in the first season or 2, Olivia tracked down her father and was outside his home, but didn't go to meet him, she decided not to. I think this was also when her mother was alive. Because it's been interesting when Olivia talked about her mother sometimes in the show, especially when it was negative, when in the first season or 2 we actually saw her and her conversations with Olivia, and they were on good terms. But i guess in regards to her father they've kind of retconned it.
In regards to the ending... I like that it was stated that they are so loyal to each other that it compromises their effectiveness as detectives, but ALSO that splitting them up would compromise their effectiveness as a great detective team. Both collectively and individually.
