I like the case of this episode, and how it grew into a character piece for Alex.
She did the right thing. Damn the others. She, Benson, Stabler and somewhat the captain know that there are flaws in the justice system and sometimes you need to do some things that are against it in order to serve the greater good, and which ultimately should be good for the justice system and make it change. But it won't. Not in this society. Instead, the law becomes more convoluted and strict, to less allow actions like these. And thus, injustice will flourish.
