Nice episode. A lot to think about! But as a gay man, I'd like to say that I do not wish to be nor I consider myself a "Protected class". I want, better yet, I demand to be a RESPECTED class.
This episode is one of the reasons why SVU continues to be so popular. There is nuance in the story telling and the characters are not always black and white. Even though Darius was at fault, the show did explore the reasons for his insecurity about Avery and also showed the contrasting economic conditions they both grew up in.
The actors and actresses who played Avery's father and Darius's mother portrayed emotion so well. Really heart-piercing. Very strong. Very well done.
Bit of a contrived crime at the start, and I feel they made the trans character of Avery way too well adjusted and compassionate, but the handling of the nuance in the case against Darius was really well done and Adrienne C. Moore was absolutely terrific as his mum.
one of the saddest episode ever. really felt for darius
Probably one of the best episodes SVU has had in a long time.

the emotions in this episode are a Lot. easily one of the episodes that shows how svu is more than a procedural.
