Getting better by the episode, when this started I really believed it was going to be a disappointment but I am happy to have got it wrong.
this was a very emotional episode indeed seeing him like that. he tried his best to be a good king and a good husband/father.
And with this, Paddy Considine won a Emmy. Another 10/10 episode, and keeps getting better. I cant believe it ends in 2 weeks.
Wow. Just... Wow!
This episode had me hooked from the first moment to fading out to the end credits. I needed to force myself to blink as my eyes were drying out.
Stellar performances and exceptional writing. It had its cutting moments, family moments you wish your family can have, and not have.
Just watch the damn episode - brilliant
Thank you cast and crew, I truly hope for many awards coming your way. 10
Damn Rhaenyra if only you have stayed a little longer :(….and of course Alicent is going to twits every word the king just said U_U
Did anyone else feel like Marlon Brando's spirit was just off-camera, his eyes fixed in silence on Vicerys, during every moment Paddy Considine graced the screen? I certainly haven't seen anything quite like it since Brando breathed both life and death into Don Corleone in The Godfather. It really is one of the best barometers available for anyone's skill at acting, to portray a character first with their vitality intact, and then again as it's slipping away. It cuts against the grain of that which each of us struggles so hard to deny and forestall: time's inexorable march towards our diminishment and eventual death.
It was a rare privilege to see Paddy Considine bring Vicerys full circle in this episode. He's shown us that even strong kings are deeply flawed, and also that it is in overcoming those flaws from time to time, when it matters most, that was the source of their strength all along. Bravo, Mr. Considine, you did Brando proud and will be sorely missed.
daemon, my sweet sweet rogue
This episode was brilliant. The intrigues, the politics, the tension. All the actors were great. I have a confusion with the princes though. Can't wait to see what is next.
the one eyed boy aged like +10years while the Rhaenyra's kids looked like they aged only 3years. the passage of time is so wildly different between characters, makes it feel so inconsistent
“He can keep his tongue”
King Viserys of House Targaryen, first of his name King of the Andals, and the Rhoynar, and the First Men Lord of the Seven Kingdoms, and Protector of the Realm
I was sobbing at that family dinner scene, Paddy, what an actor. His acting and the music during that scene was perfection
ANOTHER banger. In love with this show and it continues to reach the very high bar it has set for itself. Viserys’ entrance in the throne room is one of my favorite scenes in GOT ever, and this show continues to nail those big moment scenes for the characters. I loved how this episode was a heartwarming yet tragic sendoff for Viserys and he has been one of my favorite GOT characters. Paddy Considine deserves all the praise for an amazing performance and I’m really going to miss him in the series. I can’t wait to see the events of the last two episodes play out.
I can't help me but Emma D'Arcy is not convincing me as Rhaenyra
Oh my. Paddy Considine's acting alone makes this episode a 10 for me. For me this was an award winning performance and a great send off.
To me, best episode so far.
I've been captured by every single frame, every single word and every single note from the soundtracks.
The scene of the King entering the Iron throne hall just hit me so hard. I felt every suffering step of Viserys getting closer to the seat, slowly, weakly but strongly at the same time.
I thought he would be gone during the dinner, watching his family reunited, but the way he calls his true love with his last breath, reaching her with his hand up high, was perfect.
Thank you Paddy.
This show his taking my heart episode after episode. JUST WOW.
Paddy Considine, what an exit. Also another great HOTD dinner sequence, topping even the fifth ep's one.
That family Dinner scene. The last supper of King Visereys is a cinematic masterpiece.
Duddeeeeeeeeeee omggggg, This is so epic like wtf just happened, I don't know what to talk about bc it's totally great from every side, acting, soundtrack especially in that scene when Paddy Showed up, omg! he really did a great massive job in this series and for sure deserve an Emmy!
besides that as i have mentioned everything is great
it's getting more dark
i like thattttt
I don't get the negative comments at all and I would advice everyone else to just ignore them. This episode is Emmy material from start to finish with its amazing dialogues, cinematography, directing and music.
Paddy is the true MVP of this episode by making the audience hold its breath every time the camera is on him. His acting should be rewarded.
The dinner scene is a freaking masterpiece and the characters have become far more interesting than in the book.
With each episode getting better and better, I just can't wait to see what episodes 9 and 10 will bring us!
Wow what an emotional episode. While I have some minor issues with the ending (the talk between Viserys and Alicent) the quality has never been higher. The show’s consistently putting out banger after banger every week. Unbelievable. 10/10.
Paddy Considine. That’s all that needs to be said.
An episode with a lot of political discussions, intrigues, observing dynamics at the court, statesmanship, discussing legal matters concerning claims. I could watch this political master class for hours although nothing else really happens. So I thought. Of course I was wrong: Daemon prefers a hands-on approach. Still not sure what to make of him. Is he a caring father, husband, brother or a cruel and untamable man? (I forgot: Alicent isn't shy to use all tools at her disposal neither if that's what it takes to defend her son's honor).
Stunning performance by the King. What a make-up! Alicent is also awesome. Still not happy with new Rhaenyra.
Is there anything else to criticize? Sure. Let me point out one issue: the frequent time jumps are dealt with as good as it is possible. Here we jump at least 3 years or so. Time warps are perhaps inevitable 'cause the show wants to tell a family chronic that possibly spans decades, but they continue to be a nuisance. I constantly feel that they deprived me of all the interesting stories that happened in between. Plus, I always need a few scenes to understand who is who and what has changed. This orientation process takes away some of the immersion. It doesn't help that they all look the same, have similar names, constantly give birth to new heirs and are fond of creating ring-shaped family trees.
An underrated little great thing is how Daemon appears to become more wise with time and move to make up with his brother Viserys. Time heals some stuff. They truly like each other.
Okay, another timejump, 6 years this time. Why do Rhaenyra's boys look like they haven't really aged, while especially the one-eyed boy looks like he's a young Daemon from the first episodes?
So, we're all playing nice, after the Seasnake's brother gets killed, at the king's last supper. And the first-born son remains a miscreant. (Could someone please explain to me why all the children apparently are either mad, abusive, sexually or otherwise, etc? Is it nature or nurture?)
So, now what? Let's finally get to the open fight for succession.
Never expected King Viserys to move me at all, let alone make me cry, then Paddy Considine delivered us this all time episode and I can't stop thinking about it. Another one for the books.
Alicent is such a gold digging hobag
The only thing that keep bugging me with this episode was Viserys' whole face looking like cgi. What happened to the practical effects and makeup?
In spite of the fact that there isn't a lot of actual action in this episode (except for, I guess, a guy getting his head mostly chopped off for calling some kids bastards) it was still gripping throughout which is a testament to the excellent acting and directing; was not expecting to get so invested in this show.
Paddy Considine was amazing. But he better not turn up alive again next episode… this dude will just not die.
I don't know how to put it into words but nothing on TV currently even comes close to how good this show is.
The episode was very intensive and character-driven as it has been the case in this first season of the show. Rhaenyra and Daemon (who have two children together by this time) return to King's Landing as they got news that Corlys' brother wants to put a claim to Driftmark and declare her sons illegitimate. She seems distraught by that as she offers Rhaenys the marriage of her granddaughters to her sons, respectively, and pleads with her father, asking him whether the story of Aegon's dream was really true.
The political plots are interesting but the ailing king Viserys really steals the show, he suffers terribly from some kind of disease which leaves him covered in ulcers, and while he gets milk of the poppy for the pain, Alicent and her lord father are the real rulers of the kingdom. Alicent's became very religious and installed the stars of the Seven everywhere and introduced prayers before meals. She seems understanding towards a serving maid her son took advantage of, but I am not sure whether she didn't have the girl killed behind the scenes as she doesn't appear at work the next day.
As I said, the king is the biggest star of the episode, and the scene in which he surprises everyone by walking to the throne room and then sitting on the Iron Throne is really impressive. The king has shown some pluck and courage at last, as we can guess he suffers a lot doing that since he didn't take the milk of the poppy to keep his mind clear. It is sad to watch how he has to walk all this long way to the Iron Throne alone and nobody runs to help him, only Daemon aids him to climb the throne itself at the end. Rhaenrys seems to care about her father but does not help him walk to the throne, so she is just thhinking about what is there for her to gain. He declares that Rhaenys is the one who knows best Corlys's plans about succession and a bit suprisingly, Rhaenys supports Rhaenyra, with the result of the king declaring Lucerys the heir to the Dragonstone. Corlys' brother accuses Rhaenrya's children of being bastards and the king orders his tounge to be cut off, though Daemon slices his head so that the tounge remains whole. He is not punished for that in any way so I guess it was OK with the king.
The king also orders a dinner for all the members of his family, himself included, and makes a speech calling upon them to make peace among themselves to honour him, and initially they do so, starting with Rhaenyra praising Alicent for caring for the king, and Alicent reciprocates by praising Rhaenrya as a mother, and others follow, but the words are not sincere as when the king is too weak to stay any longer, Alicent's eldest son launches a verbal attack on Rhaenyra's boys and there is a short fight.
It looks like the king is dying, and in his last words he says that the story is true, and the listener is the prince that was promised, but it is nor Rhaenryra who is listening, but Alicent. She takes it that it is the king's will that their son Aegon is to be the next ruler of Westeros, so I guess the war will begin for real in the next episode. Though the old king was quite moving this episode, still supportive of his daughter and wanting his whole family to make peace. Also, the story of Aegon's dreams seemed to be very important to him and it was the thing he clung to in the last moments of his life.
9! Because we haven't seen any dragons.
Everyone says everything is happening so fast. I wish It's been boring as shit. Daemon is just chef's kiss. More central please. He said like 3 words in this episode but that scene was awesomeeee.
Amazing writing with fantastic actors. Powerful moments empowered by a diverse cast without forced storylines.
The Rings of Power looks like a poorly written fan movie compared to this
It's 8 episodes now and I am still unable to swallow Olivia Cooke in this series. She's always gonna be Emma from Bates Motel.
Daemon Targaryen is literally me
Paddy Considine take a bow! Wow just wow!!
King Viserys not looking so hot. I shudder to think how he’ll look next if there’s another time jump.
The poor King has leprosy.
I still don't know who is going to ascend the Iron Throne when the King dies.
Riveting, jaw-dropping, and sorrowful of a fallen kingdom from beginning to end. Easily one of the greatest episodes in the Song of Ice and Fire saga.
King Viserys is in need of some skin crème
almost went one episode with a viserys W without L but of course, damn
Sad
Not so tough afterall ? huh Aemond
Up until this episode I was wondering is this really and truly worthy of the name game of thrones? Could this be from the same people?
This episode has changed my mind. It has renewed my interest in the TV series. This episode is the best by far.
Alicent's feminist moment does not track with the character from the previous episodes.

Top tier episode holy shit. This is what fantasy television should be. They know how to build up tension and the acting is phenomenal. I’m so excited to see it all come to fruition in the finale in 2 weeks
