In true HSM fashion, this pilot episode is filled with cringe-worthy moments, yet filled with fun new characters and stories. It's not THAT funny as a show, but at least its cast is entertaining. A mix between shows like Glee and mockumentaries like Modern Family that I hope can get stronger as the season unfolds.
Truly a display of Glee's impact even a decade after its premiere. Unfortunately HSMTMTS doesn't even grase the heights of Glee's campy perfection to be compelling. i would have been obsessed with this if I was 10 though.
Great concept, so fun to listen to those songs again and see those places again. Not remaking it but acknowledging the original was a great choice and you got to love the documentary style.
[Initial Impression] I think this is going to find its audience. A beloved High School concept. Talented cast. Good music. High School drama. Lots of fun. I've already heard one High Schooler's rave review. I give this series a 7 (good) out of 10. [High School Musical]

Glee meets The Office (US), HSM edition. Tell me those ringing, pinging, bell-y noises weren't 1000000% quintessentially Glee. I dare you.
I was in my mid teens when the first HSM came out (around 13-14), so basically smack dab in the target demographic. And I was obsessed with it (before the Twilight craze started and I forgot all about dreamy Troy once broody Edward showed up LOL).
HSM still holds a spot in my heart, and so, even though I'm now kinda old for it, I really love that Disney is bringin it back. And this is a very original and fun way to do it, too! I'm pretty sure I remember practically all the lyrics to the staple songs from the first movie (the best one, IMO).
So far, the characters seem pretty cookie cutter, but all the actors are pretty good at acting and singing (already love the new original song! So sweet!). My favorite character has to be the drama teacher, though. She's basically playing the same character Kristin Chenoweth did on Glee and I'm not complaining. April was a fantastically campy character and endlessly funny.
I'm really looking forward to seeing more!
