Good scale and possibilities on paper, but uninspired in the realization - this show will be renamed from "Gotham" to "Gossip" next season.
I hate when I am right. This is really good. The Dark Knight fits.
Season 1 of this show was fantastic television. Sure, it had its issues, but for the most part I found it to be an intense, gripping show. Penguin was fantastic, as was Falcone and all the stuff relating to the mob. However, once season 2 came around the show just went overboard with villains. But worse than going overboard with villains was the fact that most of the villains weren't very good. Jerome as a joker like character was excellent while he lasted, but even he suffered from the poorly written plot. After season 1, the show lost all sense of danger. The characters are never actually in trouble. In the first season it really did feel tense, it felt like characters were in trouble. But after seeing the GCPD be taken over for the fourth time in x amount of episodes in later seasons, all sense of danger just vanishes. How many times can Penguin or Riddler have one another held hostage only for them to escape? It really is nonsense. The supernatural/magic stuff in the series really doesn't work well either. I think it could work, but it's just poorly implemented.
I think the show suffers from short sightedness. There doesn't seem to be any stretching plot to most of it other than Bruce Wayne being on course to become Batman (which is actually one of the worst parts of the show). It also often feels like certain plot points are dragged on for far longer than is necessary - probably to fill all 22 episodes of each season. I really think that the show would be much better if the seasons were shortened to around 13 episodes. I'm confident that by cutting down on the number of total episodes that the creators could fill those 13 episodes with good content, rather than having to stretch any good content they come up with out over 22 episodes.
Such a beautiful mess, I'm glad I stuck around to see how it ends.
I mean, I've made it this far, so might as well keep up with it. But for the entirety of the third season I was constantly on the verge of dropping it, and more-or-less continued out of a mix of bile fascination and habit.
Ivy being aged up was the first time I felt truly irked by how utterly desperate it's been getting to fast-forward to the more ostensibly Batman-ish material, when in reality the most likable aspect of the show was its initial desire to exist in its own little world and approach all these characters from more subversive angles. Also, the transition from a procedural about gang warefare and a corrupt precinct with a theatrical twist to DUDE FREEZE RAYS, NUCLEAR BOMBS AND SUPERPOWERED BLOOD VIRUSES LMAO could not have been more jarring; like, I get that they sort of tried to segue from more realistic crime scenarios to all the zany shit by using Galavan's cult as an intermediary of sorts, but it still feels like too short a space of time to gradually build towards it. This is in addition to the myriad of other writing mishaps that I could probably spend all day on, but it's best just to amount it to all of the writers having majorly limited contact with each other and a general feeling of writing-on-the-fly (I can't be the only one who thinks something like the Tetch Virus reads as a one-off for like two episodes or something, not a plot device you build an entire season around and comes completely out of nowhere)
I'd be more optimistic about Bruce going full-on caped crusader as adding a different spin to things, but then this is a show that's been throwing different spins and twists every other ten minutes in the hopes that it'll distract people from how aimless it all is, so I doubt much will change in that regard.
God I miss forensic scientist Ed
8 - Great
So this series definitely has it's bad episodes but overall such great acting and introduction of classic comic book villains and heroes redeems it all.
Best series for dc comics
There are exactly one hundred episodes :-)
I managed to watch a few episodes, but then just lost interest. Perhaps for people who like old fashioned crime series or true batman fans. There are simply too many annoying characters in this show; top of the bill being Fish. I gave up. It's not really a bad series, but totally not even close to being my favorite either. I simply prefer series like Continuum, Person of Interest, Blacklist and The Americans.
I really enjoyed this kind of "prequel" of the city of Gotham before Batman was born. While the final season did seem rushed, the show overall was really fun to watch and see how Batman's villains came to be.
An excellent show, worth the time.
what is going on here? no season 6?
My absolute favourite TV show. It doesn't get anywhere near as much credit it deserves, despite its amazing writing. For instance, no matter who gets cast as Riddler or Penguin in future films or series, I can never see them being played even half as well as Cory Michael Smith and Robin Lord Taylor did. They brought their characters to life, gave them so much more depth than I was expecting. Sure, the first season drags a little, but once you get into it... you really get into it. :pound_symbol:SaveGotham
Not the ending I've expected. But it's finally over.
Well, one of the best serie DC ever. We look at the origins of it all. Seeing Batman younger, Catwoman as well. The people who inspire the future Joker, like Jerome and Jeremiah. Penguin, Barbara and every villain at there origins. Very cool, even when sometimes we have somes periods when it's ruff to follow the serie. The season 4 is great, can't wait to see our Batman in action and maybe a peek of the Joker, who knows ? Maybe Jeremiah will join he's brother !
One of my favorite shows. I just hate how CW’s Arrow has stolen all of Batman’s villains and people who didn’t know much about Batman’s villains thought these belonged to Green Arrow’s storyline, which is not true.
David is literally an amazing Bruce Wayne. In some cases I would say he is better than some of the casted Bruce’s for the movies.
I just want them to kill Barbara. She’s is annoying and not even relevant to this storyline anymore. They made her crazy and thereby killed the whole story about how Gordon’s family would be.
one of the worst batman-inspired shows i've ever seen. seriously, there's suspension of disbelief and there's asking for sheer stupidity from the audience. Gordon's just over the top all of the time, terrible acting and writing, Bruce comes off as a whiny little bitch and why the fuck would Gotham need Batman if Alfred and Gordon are such asskickers? also, Selina is unconvincing and ageing up Ivy seemed a bit desperate. every episode screams of jumping the shark. i gave it up mid season 2 and decided to give it another shot now (i really wanted to like it), but hell, it's even worse!
This show lives from the promise of the origin stories of the known, established characters. That is a blessing and a curse. I loved the parts with Oswald/Penguin (RL Taylor is amazing), Ed/Riddler (also greatly portrayed by CM Smith) or the insights you get into the reasons why Bruce became Batman but everything else I found more or less boring. Gordons storyline, while interesting in the first season, becomes a circling roller coaster. Cat and Ivy are an afterthought as far as I watched the show althought the relationship between Cat and Bruce has something. Every now and then a name or character you know pops up in the story and it sometimes felt a bit to constructed. And I think this show could have profited from shorter seasons so that all those plots don't have to be stretched out paperthin. And the all-encompassing problem of prequels - you know that certain characters don't die so no point in threatening them in the story.
I hated Fish Mooney, the whole Mafia thing and I didn't like guys like Galavan or Hugo Strange. In the second season basically every episode became a question of wether to continue or not with this show and at 2x15 I gave up. Those little parts that I liked became less and the rest bored me more and more. And had this been a generic show and not set in Gotham I probably would not have made it through the first season.
I have to give credit thought to the cast and production. The scenery is great, it looks the part, most of the actors are great some even amazing (look above). So, it isn't an awful show but ultimately not one for me.
The worst thing about this show is that it is not absolutely terrible. It is sometimes pretty good.
If it sucked, then it might get cancelled and we could all stop watching. Instead this show is a stark blend of good and bad elements.
It has some pretty decent noir detective style stories, where the main character, Gordon, is the only honest cop in a totally corrupt town. Then a guy called Penguin eats sandwiches after he randomly stabs people. Gordon is a cop so committed to doing the right thing he will literally sort through the shit to find the truth (evidence in the sewer). But later a guy asks a bunch of Riddles and everyone says he Riddles too much.
The other main cop, Bullock, is an interesting mix of corrupt cop but still has decent sense of justice. Then a young rich orphan is sad a bunch, while people tell him he will do great things one day (that we will never see).
Even though the "Gordon cleans up police alone" is the best part of the show it also has contradictions, for instance there is already another whole department of honest cops. And he also has a super successful, rich, and supportive fiancé who could completely take care of him if he quit being a cop. So he isn't really struggling with his life in any way. It makes him copping about look more like a whimsey, as opposed to a duty.
This show has a pretty decent core narrative, it's all the auxiliary stuff dragging it down. It also does a good job of not being entirely episodic. Often minor plot points from previous episodes will impact the next one.
For a show based on Batman, the worst parts of the show are the Batman bits. Like when young Bruce Wayne, or Selina Kyle ("Cat"), or the Penguin or the Riddler show up. If they cut out all the Batman things in this show, it would be much better.
I want to either love this show, or stop watching. But I can't do either. Instead I keep watching a mediocre series and hoping it improves.
Masterfully set. Surprisingly well-written. Faithful but not derivative.
Equal parts Burton and Nolan, with a splash of Frank Miller.
The best DC offering on television right now, by miles.
If you love Batman and really want to dive into the backstories of all it's iconic characters then you need to watch this show! It's brilliant.
Liked it for a good part of the first season, then it just drags on. Occasionally will watch an episode from later seasons, same monotone storyline -- glad I didn't commit.
Great production quality, good acting, boring plot.
For some reason I can't stop watching this garbage...it's a DC YA Fan fiction. A three way merging of suck.
Edit: the fact they refuse to kill anyone off (or rather keep them dead) makes this one of the lamest shows I've ever seen. This takes "no one's ever really gone" to a whole new level.
Absolutely one of the best shows currently airing. The suspense and dark way the series is portraying Gotham is just awesome. I can't wait for season two. I hope the characters in Season two will be older in order for Bruce to come towards becoming the Dark Knight.

All the crazy ex girlfriends of Gordon at one big parade !!!
I never was a fan of Batman. I really enjoy Gotham tho!
TBH, I've been having difficulties accepting Gordon... although, I must say his story has been getting progressively better, to the point that I can finally say I'm starting to like him. The Gordon today is more believable... and more fun!
Great show!
I miss Fish tho.
This show is just superb. The intensity rises with every episode, each finishing as a season climax. This is, by far, the best TV show from a DC character / universe. All protagonists have coherent, sensible, well-rounded storylines, always walking in a gray area. You can feel the evil of Gotham sucking in everyone.
This is the kind of show that makes you wish they'd make a Batman series.
Crazy Insane Fuck Jerome Joker <3
During the first season I didn't have many high hopes for this season, I was just like: "whatever, I wanna see Batman", but since then the rise of the villains has become more and more interesting, and also the relations between characters are more and more captivating. I like where this is going.
Season 2 has more episodes than what they have on the app. Please update. Ty!
Seriously love this show. Completely insane :)
So far it is pretty good. I am not a huge batman fan but knew enough to pick up the names and who they eventually become. It is basically a smallville series for batman. The acting is pretty good so far and appear to have plenty of material to work with.
Did a vey good telling the origin stories of some of Batman's biggest foes. Just wish we'd seem more Batman in the show so it doesn't get a 10.
Just finished the series finale, last season was rushed , but overall loved this series. Seeing all the characters before Batman was nice. Nice to see Bullock character arc as well.
If you love Batman I would give this series a try.
I am currently only on episode 5 of the first season. This is an interesting premise focusing more on a young Jim Gordon as he just enters the GCPD force. I am very over the Bullock character, over the top bad cop character.
I love seeing the classic characters like Riddler, Poison Ivy, Alfred, Selina Kyle, Cobblepot as their younger self to show how they were before we mainly know them.
Tried my best to get into this but it is one boring show.
:black_heart::black_heart::black_heart::black_heart::black_heart::black_heart:
No season 6 :accept: Why :airplane: why why?
Best series for dc comics
Best series for dc comics
Season 5 was nonsense beyond belief. Only the last episode was worth it. They do so many stupid things like people get stabbed & shot in the stomach but some how they walk away as if someone had tickled them instead. Dumb.....luckily I had all the episodes on my TiVo & was able to watch it in Quick Mode while FF most of the carp in this season.
I really enjoyed this series. It wasn't my favourite, but it entertained me. Granted, it's brilliant of the writers to pull off this series. The were able to focus on all characters somewhat equally.
The end of a really great show. Good to see the rise of not only Batman but all the super villians
So Catwoman is a BBW now? Honestly that girl does not nor ever will have the body type to fit into a catsuit. You can't just get by having her leap onto crates or chilling on fire escapes.
Most people say you’ll have to push through S1. For me, I made it into S3 before I gave it up for other shows I preferred. I returned and caught up when I didn’t have anything else to watch, but it is a last resort show for me now.
Many key characters (Penguin, Bruce, Riddler...) just come off as too whiny to me. Episodes are all over the place as they try to develop many different character backstories at the same time. Every now and then, you’ll get a few episodes with some of the same characters; then, they’ll disappear for some reason for the rest of the season.
If you like CW shows, this runs with a very similar vibe.
If you enjoy Arrow, Flash, or Agents of Shield, you may enjoy Gotham.
If you love superheroes especially batman and want to watch some thing cool and unique then this show is for you.
S1 was great except for some episodes.
Only watching for Jerome Valeska
Well I made it to 3x21, is it worth going on?
season 4 it's been very very good. the best show.
This is the most awesome cast I have ever seen, Vic Mackey is isthe police chief, the Uri Queen, V's ruler, and everyone's favorite escort, Morena Baccarin along with the penguin, riddler, and (oh my god) Jada Pinkett Smith's Fish Mooney are amazing. Also countless numbers of the best guest stars. The only thing missing is Summer Glau!
As usual, the early episodes are somewhat of a bore. The characters are very well written, both the DC ones and the new to Batman characters. Perhaps the best being the Scarecrow, although he only apeared in the one episode. That episode however, was by far the best episode of the show. That episode also is where the show really took off. It was alright till then, but every single episode after it is miles better than every episode before it. So if you are thinking of whether or not to watch this show, watch up to that episode, then make up your mind.
There's even some eye watering comedy, I can't remember how many time I buckled over, slapping my knee in laughter. Example, when officer "Generic Johnson" grabs flame thrower girl, then obviously get torched to a crisp. Bottom line, this is a must see for a Smallville, Batman, Game of Thrones and Stargate fans.
PS, the major problem with the show, not enough Jada Pinkett and Morena Baccarin scenes, and no catsuit. It would hurt to have a Jada, Morena, Cat-fight scene... in a cat suit! And Summer Glau would also be nice.
PPS, the firefly chick has a huge ass, I'm a black guy so I'm not afraid to say, it is beautiful!
Marana Baccarin and Jada Pinkett, gotta get some cocoa butter just to watch three seasons of this show... who needs porn?
U just gotta love the penguin
Really love this series! however I wonder if it really based on real comics' story plot?
Keeps getting better!!! Love it!
I've already forgot what the story line was its been so long since I've seen a new episode
This show had its lows, it's awesome especially sibce Hugo Strange and Court of Owls stepped in. Great season 02 in my opinion.
There is 22 episodes in season 2, not 20. Please, update
Surprisingly good. Now, if they just added a bit more violence and skin....this would be awesome!
great show, bruce development starting to catch me
This is probably one of the worst and most uninspired shows I have ever seen
I agree Debbie, The 2nd Season of GOTHAM has had me glued to every episode so far!
Second season is better than the first however I find them introducing the villains far to fast like they have to get them all settled in before they get cancelled
Saison 1 longue à démarrer, mais se met très bien en place grâce à un super jeu d'acteurs. Très bonne série!
Les 13 premiers épisodes sont bof mais courage la suite est juste énorme!
There are some aspects of this show that makes it worthwhile to watch, but the amount of shitty plots and some actors with zero talent or credibility (Jada Pinkett Smith is on the top of that list), I'm having a hard time devoting time to watch this regularly. I'm watching it simply because there aren't episodes left of the good shows.
Brilliant. Not everyone's cup of tea but I love this.
Second season is so much better!
(via TV Blaze for WP)
Season 2 is way better than the first one! so if, as was I, you are kind of doubtful after the first few episodes, keep watching the best is ahead :D
Really enjoying, favourite has to be penguin ! Great watching the characters evolve :)
Started to watch this week's episode on OnDemand and realized I was getting ahead of myself. I still hadn't watched last episode yet. I think this season is better than last overall so far.
(via TV Blaze for WP)
I am really thinking of quitting on this one... maybe it is just not my style
If the acting was any better (with the exception of Logue and Bicondova), then yeah, this could have been good.
One cracker of a series ,I like the way different character s are portrayed every week.
am startin to watch this show ,i hop will conquer my eyes n heart..regarding above +ve comments i think its one of the epic show.
I like Jada. I'll miss her. Great show. Love it!
Looks like Season 1 will be the last for Fish Mooney: http://geektyrant.com/news/jada-pinkett-smith-will-not-be-back-for-gotham-season-2
I figured as much back in February. I'm glad and it's the right thing for the show: http://trakt.tv/comments/38648
I wonder if cobblepot is the joker!!
I wonder if cobblepot is the joker!!
this a very interesting pre-Batman show... i can't wait til all of this elements goes down .....
Great show. Love it!!!
started watching this late I'm catching up now when my son using watching dispicable me every few hrs lol almost caught up! great show
I was sceptical in the beginning because comic adaptations are getting into fashion and some fail with the drama element. Not this one though; after 5-6 episodes I am now officially hooked and can't wait for next week's episode! The hints here and there for future character developments are fantastic and you develop a natural sense for the city of Gotham.
Move over Batman... Detective Gordon steals this show!
Awesome show and cast keep doing the good work xD
Awesome show so far. Can't wait to see how far they can take this.
I like the story behind Batman and his villains, but I wonder how far will they take it, for how many season will they be able to keep Batman out of the story. Great show though.
I love it!! can't wait for new episodes!!!!!
i can't stand emo batman
First Ep was Mush better then expected, LOVED IT !!
cant wait to next...
Top Notch Pilot episode. Looking forward to more Amazing episodes.
Show was great! Love it!
I really liked it, especially visuals and i guess what is called screenplay, almost like a movie. Let's see if they can keep it up.
hope, it'll rock as we expected.
I see the pilot and really please me. I have a new exciting serie to follow.
Today is the day!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about anything that happened in Gotham before Batman so this show might now make sense to me but i'm going to watch anyway.
Can't wait to watch this series!
I've always liked Ben McKenzie as an actor, so I'm really looking forward to this!

Is it just me or the second season is FAR better than the first one?
