[7.5/10] This one had a lot of things I liked, but fewer things that I really loved. My favorite part of the episode was Aziraphale’s possession of Madame Tracy and the sequence that instigated it. The whole idea of a fake psychic being genuinely possessed is an amusing one, and the fact that a genuine seance just leads to one spouse telling another to shut up from beyond the grave is a laugh in and of itself.
But it also gives Miranda Richardson a real chance to shine here. Michael Sheen still has great delivery as the “discorporated” version of himself, but Richardson does some superb body language work to make it believable. The whole bit with the two of them sharing a body makes for an amusing pairing and situation.
I also continue to like Crowley’s whole frustration with the situation and vaguely lovelorn missing of his best friend. The aside about him designing London’s highways for maximum annoyance is a hoot, and his driving through a literal ring of fire by sheer force of will makes for some crazy good visuals and a nice chance for David Tennant to chew scenery.
But you can also feel Good Omens straining to put its pieces into place for the big finale here. I’m still not enamored with Adam as a character, and the fact that his devilish predilections dissipate almost as fast as they arose weakens the whole thing. The interactions between the four horsemen are somewhat neat (particularly Brian Cox’s death), including their sneaking past the gate, but the whole thing feels more like prelude that’s holding something back. And the whole witch/witchfinder contingent on the show still feels fairly undercooked. (Though I have enjoyed Heaven marshalling their forces for the big war.)
Overall, there’s enough texture and neat moments in this one to keep you interested, though I still find myself more invested in specific characters or sequences rather than the overall story that the show seems to be telling.
In the Good Omens book, Crowley's old Bentley was quite the character in and of itself, especially when it came to that fire. Not as much in this series, up 'til now; It's nice to finally see it get its due here. :-)
Why no one mention about Madame Tracy? She is funny !!
Okay so Azi appearing before Crowley was so nice xD I wish he was happier though I mean when he said "I lost my best friend"
The burning of the bookshop is supposed to be this big emotional scene but that and the fallout took so little time. It feels like there is not enough space for the emotional consequences to sink in, because they had to ensure the necessary parts of the plot that advance the end times happen
Not much to say about this episode other than it is so brilliant how every single plot thread just comes together beautifully. Just a masterful weaving of threads
Must make a note, Rosie Day as Lisa reminds me so much of a young Cordelia Bugeja!
