Fargo: Season 4

4x10 Happy

Well, it was certainly a surprise to find this wasn't actually the final episode! Previous seasons all had ten so we were ready for a conclusion.

Saying that, one of the best episodes so far, in a relatively straightforward (and I'm tempted to say at times, uninteresting) season.

"Happy" is a terrible, contrived and boring mess of a penultimate episode. Almost every character has been either unlikeable, unremarkable or miscast. Likeable characters (Doctor Senator) and intriguing ones (Oraetta Mayflower) have either been "taken out" or have lost all remarkability. Also, Gaetano's death has to be the most far-fetched pile of drivel this show has ever produced. Even Ray Stussy's accidental death in the previous season wasn't that contrived. Aside from trite compliments, such as the setting and soundtrack, this is low-quality television at its worst. Honestly, this season is becoming borderline unwatchable. Thankfully there is only one episode left.

Overall, terrible and almost irredeemable penultimate episode.

The episode still has less sound preceding context than past seasons, but it finally feels somewhat like the Fargo of old, with every storyline building, collapsing, and/or intersecting with each other, sometimes in unexpected way but often thrillingly. Hope the finale brings it home.

Every season of Fargo has that one episode which ties up to the story and all characters. Thats this episode and I enjoyed every scene of this.

wonder if this was the point of the season where shooting was stopped due to COVID... something about the actors look different... or maybe it's because a year has passed story-wise.
