Completely honest, raw and emotional portrayal of modern teenagers, what other show like this lack and boldly shown without shying away on the censorship. Give me more of this kind of show HBO!
when the "two seconds of nothingness" monologue happened i knew immediately this was a show for the ages
Excessive is the word I would use. The show portrays everything that’s wrong with modern American teenagers, who seem to be completely unhinged and sex-crazy. Good actor work, great visuals, but hellishly depressing story about a bunch of idiots. Will I watch more? Maybe because of the actors.
"and I felt safe in my own head" -good line
This is the kind of thing I'd expect to see on starz and not HBO.
Zendaya accurately talks like an opiate addict, slurring her words and not using much (if any) inflection change. Rue also feels very removed from the desire to be saved, the less accurate representation. I think.
What a strange ending.
effing love it ugh no words .. literally the effect of a drug .. took me out of my reality .
«And then it happens. The moment when you breath starts to slow. And every time you breathe, you breath out all the oxygen you have. All everything stops. Your heart, your lungs then finally, your brain. And everything you feel and wish and want to forget, it all just sinks. And then suddenly... you give it air again, give it life again.
{ two seconds of nothingness }
Wow, this is depressing. I am so glad that I just barely scraped at being that very generation, and there's a big ocean between me and these kinds of lives. (Or, I'll hold on to that illusion for a little bit longer if it keeps me saner) Still, too close to home. If this raw portrayal of the world isn't going to make you sick, you must be drugged down or a sociopath. Great show. Definitely not made to sugarcoat or make you feel good though. If you like having your delusions about the way of the free blown away, this is perfect for you.
I was a bit worried when I saw the trailer but it's good, dark like I want. A teen drama by HBO, keep it like this!
God help us, is this what teenagers are really like these days?
Uhh okay, I don’t know about y’all, but this is definitely not representative of the teenage experience these days:skull: These people are basically crazy and beyond vulgar, so I wouldn’t call it realistic, but I can see why this show could be fun to watch. I’m curious to see how the rest of the episodes will go!
Pretty sure this show isn't for me. I'll give it another episode
Do I love Zendaya more everytime I see here on the screen? Yes, and I won't hide it. Also Jules ma bestie ma queen.
Maybe this show is as good as everyone says..
im aware that im late to the party, but so far i love how this is narrated! i really like jules and rue already (yes im aware that rue is flawed)
I like where this is going. amazing soundtrack!
I was unsure of this at first, but by the end, I now feel that this is a very promising show, with a very different approach to this genre. It's raw, it's emotional, it's stunning to look at. The acting so far has been fantastic, and the writing seems to at least be acceptable. I'm excited to watch more.
I finally understand the people who hate Donnie Darko.
Not bad show i like it like Dare Me
Lol they show even hard dicks but hide the pussys even on the fotos xD
Biggest eye roll in recorded human history
Like if Trey Edward Shults was more incompetent and whiter.
This is great,
but I know that this bitch is about to lead her new friend to OD heaven.
the comments saying this is an honest portrayal of modern teens................ @ american teenagers are yall ok? is everything ok at home? this show's like everything i hate about american culture but i guess i should have seen that coming. won't be watching it again, which is disappointing cus i love zendaya and she's so cute in this :(
EDIT: i watched the whole season and the way the show’s directed, edited and generally its technical aspects are amazing. some issues are delt with really really well (rue’s depression for example) but everything else is just very much still an extra american teen show that makes me cringe every time i have to remind myself im watching the lives of 16 and 17 yos.
6/10
I had enough at about the midway point. Looking at the press for this the target audience is teens so I guess that is alright. Just not very interested in a "we are getting it" teen show set to trap beats where the lead comes out of rehab determined to do drugs again and everyone being cool with that and not even "entry" level drugs (wouldn't opioids, lean or xanax be more zeitgeistey btw.?) or the struggle of a trans hooking up on grinder considering that "she" is passing I don't get the whole point of the hookup with the "dominant" daddy if he is only go fuck her in the ass - might as well keep up the family values and hook up with girls as that is probably the most removed he could be from being gay...

A grounded vision of modern teenagers... what shows like 13 Reasons Why or Skins struggled to portrait but HBO dared to exhibit without much censorship. Very stylish photography and Zendaya's character is beyond WOW. Also, not suitable for underage viewers... very triggering (yet also, extremely relatable content).
