first season is excellent but the second one kinda loses the plot. it's like a cw show except filmed much more artistically with a more impressive cast
Not for the faint hearted even though this show will leave you feeling Euphoria in some moments
This show straight from the word Euphoria literally brings lots of really important matters faced by teenagers today into light. This show is not for the faint hearted as it deals with drugs, violence, romance, sex and much more, therefore showing an all round representation of what teenagers are faced with nowadays. The main character RUE deals with her own demons from having a drug habit where she overdosed and her sister found her on the floor practically dead. RUE faking being clean to her Mom and then after meeting this girl called Jules who has her own demons and interests that is set on this man who is just a character cat fishing her into a false sense of security. RUE falls for her hard where the Euphoria grows and you watch their relationship go as RUE stays clean and keep going to rehab as Jules is literally her rock and the main reason why she is trying to stay clean. I am so happy and practically Euphoric right now that this amazing show has got renewed for a second season ten out of ten amazing acting especially from Hunter And Zendaya. Lets keep this new amazing HBO show going for lots more seasons too go and the soundtracks will leave you feeling so euphoric. #Rules #Euphoria #EuphoriaHBO #Zendaya
The first 7 episodes are great and then the 8th doesn't make any sense. Maybe I have to be high to understand it. Structurally it was a mess, but the other 7 episodes saves the season.
Amazing soundtrack, visuals and performances. I would say one of the best tv shows I have seen in 2019. Most will say that it is a typical “high school kids” tv show, however, it does approach all the teenagers life problems that is no lie to anyone.
Because of all the positive reviews and the fact that Skins is one of my favorite teen dramas of all time, I was excited to give this a watch. I was pretty surprised to find it disappointingly mediocre. This might be one of the most overhyped shows of all time; it's basically just a TV-MA rated version of 13 Reasons Why.
My first complaint is with the way this show deals with sex. While horny teens on a quest to get some is the plot of lots of my favorite media like The Inbetweeners and Superbad, this difference here is that this show flattens half the characters into fairly one-dimensional horndogs . Most of the male characters in this show are either some sort of sexual deviant or drooling cavemen whose only dialogue lines consist of telling girls how much they want to fuck them. The female characters, for that matter, accept with open legs any guy who asks. This drags out across every. single. episode. Virtually none of the characters are interesting; there is maybe one I care about and the rest could honestly drop dead and the show would be exactly the same.
This leads into my second complaint which is that the portrayal of adult themes just seems too unrealistic given that these are supposed to be high school students. They obviously tried as hard as they could to come up with as contrived a town as possible to set this in--pretty much every character is being raised by a single parent which I guess is supposed to help explain why they, as high school students, are basically out roaming free at night and going to house parties (in middle class suburbia, by the way) all the time. One of the girls dons full dominatrix garb and cams from her bedroom...is she not worried her parent(s) are going to walk in or even hear? Nope, parents don't really exist in this show. Another character goes out at night to fuck middle-aged men from dating apps in hotel rooms.
My third complaint is that I really don't care for the way the story is told and the scenes are shot. I'd have preferred a format where we just follow certain characters around for a while but no, we're jerked forward and backwards through the timeline by a narrator, 13 Reasons Why style. There are also some scenes where it takes you out of the realistic shots and cuts to wacky shots like bottles of pills animated as if they're talking, characters dressed up in costumes, or even cartoon animations. There also...isn't really much of a story. And not even in an artsy nihilistic way. In a bad way where you jump from one meaningless love triangle to another except they can hardly even be called love triangles because none of the characters really express any emotions at all.
I rank this show far below both Skins and Elite.
okay so I was watching hbo on vacation and saw a add for this show and when I went home I ordered HBO now to order hbo and it's worth every penny of the big ol price you have to pay however this show is filthy isn't for kids in the least so much nudity sex drugs rape and violence and the show is very hard to watch at times but oh so good alot of fun to watch you will for sure enjoy this show if you have the backbone to watch I even have to skip parts
It's been a long time since I watched literally anything that touched within a part of me this much.
A waste of a good young actor. Just bottom of the barrel smut with no purpose. We don’t need to be feeding teenagers any more reason to despair about life, HBO. I abandoned this series in the pilot.
There's just too much about this show that's just perfect in every single way, so I'll just focus on its emotional impact on me. First of all, this shows is exactly the kind of thing that i wished existed. Its cathartic as shit because the energy vibrating off of this is mine. These characters are my friends. And i don't mean that the story is EXACTLY based on real life but rather it parodies it. Euphoria came at the perfect time in my life because I've been missing my school and how fucked up life was then. I'm still not sure how people get out of high school and just be functional adults (they don't). I can't help but be smitten by the show simply because of how precisely close it is to the feeling of being a 17 year old because even if none of my friends have committed breaking and entering and blinded a guy and forced him to agree to confessing to assault but life sure fucking felt like we did and that's why this show is gold. It tries to capture the feeling and not the actions (even though some are scarely close to reality) of teenagers. I love love love everything that this show is. If Euphoria was a human being i would hug it tightly, it saved me from a pit i didn't know i was in.
10 out of 10. The entire thing was just perfect. The choreography, the music, the lighting, the cinematography, the performances, the direction. I was completely spellbound. I'm 41 and I was just completely transfixed by this TV show and the young characters. The Arcade Fire montage in the finale got to me, as did the very last few shots. Incredible TV.
I think that this is the best show I've ever watched. Raw, beautiful and real. It is very deep, it closely touches very real and dark themes directly but it doesn't turn into depressing blob. It is quite a feat. It looks amazing, music is amazing and acting is just awe inspiring.
So great, especially the visual experience. I like so much how it's recorded and produced visually, the colours, the smoothness... and it's also a good and original story. It's not another american-supermodel-teenagers in high school show, it has a critical intention and sometimes it's really revealing. I totally recommend it.
I think this series is too perfect. Seriously! It's kind of confusing at first because it addresses several topics at once. but besides, just love for this series. Certainly one of the best I've watched.
Season 1 is amazing - visually and narratively. Unfortunately season 2 makes zero sense and gets really annoying really fast.
First season was really good on the first 4 episodes, later on is just gets worse and worse.
Euphoria by media and internet articles: Toxic masculinity and women's emporwement.
Reality: 10% drugs, 10% toxic masculinity, 90% entire female cast being toxic.
Most of the series are the female cast acting like a b*tch, we have an episode were one of the girls tries to broke up with her boyfriend faking that she has a terminal disease, but guess what, that's toxic masculinity that it is talked so much in this show...
The cinematography in this show is amazing! Light and camera always on point
Can you imagine the pitch to HBO for this show?
"We gonna show the world everything liberal and progressive that dismantles society. Drugs, promiscuity, alcohol, violence, LGBTQ, the butchering of the nuclear family, mental disease, and that's teenagers. We're not even talking adults here."
HBO: "but we're liberal"
"Don't worry, we're gonna drop a conservative family and hit it with the big nono's the brainless were engineered to put above everything else--pedophilia and toxic masculanity."
HBO: "Well, why didn't you say so from the beginning!? Let's go Hollywood."
Really a F great tv series HBO you rock:fire:
Yes it is! Zendaya is really perfect.
Awesome soundtrack, the cast is like alpha dog, new, young and talent, love every story line
Aweeeeeeesoooome! Realistic and on point
Awesome accurate also very brilliant
I do adore this series, very accurate when it comes to addiction in all shapes and forms! Brilliance!
okay so i might not be the best judge considering ive only seen 2 episodes however i personally loved it there is good drama action and adventure theres plenty of drama and good actiing however there is alot of sex nudity drugs and language however its very very good if you can handle the graphic content then its very rewarding to watch
I went into this expecting your typical highschool drama: 30-year-old "teenagers" pretending that high school is all about sex and drugs. And although I technically wasn't wrong about that, I find this show to be a lot more realistic (and graphic!). Instead of characters doing things for the sake of drama, this show is more about portraying how drugs can fuck up your life, etc.
I am not a huge fan of the narration style though; like they're telling you a story of something that happened before, rather than just having things happen in real time. And the switching back and forth between two time points can be incredibly confusing sometimes, as their is little indication of which one you're watching now.
I'm a bit late to the party but I finally came around to watching both seasons. From what I read it reminded me of the movie Kids (1995) but this time for my son's generation.
It's a high quality drama that doesn't shy away from the tough aspects of present day teen life. The story arc of Rue ( Zendaya ) is mainly focused on loss and the mental health and opioid epidemic. Amazing acting from her where she really wins you over with a kind of Will Smith likeability and then switches to a really convincing drug fiend.
Another great arc is that of Jules. Instead of the usual trans pity party we just get to see her character in a love triangle where one of the players just happens to be in transition. This allows you to know her not only as a trans woman and all the issues that come with it, but also leaves room for the silly, funny and romantic . I think her performance was at least on par with Zendaya's and I really think it'll help create more acceptance with people who aren't personally involved in a trans person's life.
I also liked the arc for Lexi and Kat but the latter almost disappears in the second season. Wasted chance because the online life of teens offers something new we didn't have in the nineties.
However the show also makes it clear that the current woke movement is very selective and at times absurd. On one side it is so woke that for example a parody of sleeping beauty needs a consent form from the "prince" and on another the show uses sex and nudity on a level that's damn near exploitative. As a European I'm not easily shocked but at times it feels like they are using every opportunity to show you a penis, but almost never female full frontal, even if the situation calls for it. In a certain scene everybody is ordered to strip and all the guys get naked but only one woman. It's just weird, especially since we have the body acceptance movement . Maybe that was removed due to MeToo ? Of course most of us know easier ways to see nudity, but you don't bring balance by going completely overboard to the other side.
Last example is the type of relations they show : from asexual to pansexual and every flavor in between. I don't mind diversity until you realize that the only heterosexual relationships they show are either classified as "Toxic" or "Boring". Is it that much to ask to show one (1) household with 2 parents or at least make 1 father not a complete psycho, ghost or a junkie.
Representation is indeed very important and in the past it was all geared towards white guys, but there are still white boys being born who also need a role model. Again you can't correct the mistakes of the past by making new ones in the opposite direction.
I can't wait for season 3 and i can highly recommend it but I sure am glad the entire PC movement was only just starting when I was a teenager. "sounding like a twitter thread" sure sounds like a lot of work.
Best birth control and confirmation that it's okay that I'm not a parent or a dad I can remotely imagine engineered to recommend intentionally childless lives.
One of the only highschool teen drama shows that isn’t super cringey to watch. Yes, its cringey at times, but the overall storyline and characters has so much more depth. The cast is amazing. We Stan Zendaya. I’m way too invested in the characters and my entire tik tok feed is euphoria theories.
Glitter, neon, drugs and sex
I love this show:kissing_heart: Zendaya is Life:revolving_hearts:
we are a couple of mindless chicks who got ultimately bored and we ain't got punished for shit because we got a real good parents, look at us, we are so depressed
all_for_us_ft_zendaya.mp3 on repeat for the rest of my natural life
I didn't like the end of season 2 but I appreciate that Rue didn't commit suicide.
im kinda speechless. i always hesitated to watch euphoria because i wasnt sure if this is for me but now the second season started i said what the heck lets try it and wtttfffffff! i am so happy i watched it now, this is something truly special. the soundtrack, the storytelling, the up and down, everything! it kinda blew my mind and now i am obsessed.
attention everyone: see it!
I like it. Pilot episode needs another look, since there were many names and fast paced cuts.
Season 1 was amazing when it came out weekly, but on rewatch, it got annoying. I love the acting and dialogue and the awareness of what goes on in the life of present-day teenagers, but I can't help noticing the influence it has on the (teenage) targeted audience. The cast is charismatic, the soundtrack is trendy, the cinematography is eye candy, the vibe is unreal, and for all those reasons, I bet many young people want to become these people.
I probably enjoyed season 2 more because of the drama. It was a lot more dramatic. The acting was phenomenal, but the story went kind of left. I'd also unfortunately have to say the influence to target audience didn't change this season. In other words, the vibe and aesthetics are like candy to a child.
the last 2 episodes of season 2 are a masterpiece. Lexi did what the rest of the episodes can't
Should’ve been a limited series tbf
Even if you don't care for a story about high school / love / jealousy / drugs / crime (and this one is way better than, say, Riverdale) - watch this for the style. Lighting, colors, music and camera angles /movement are unlike any other TV show you've seen. The soundtrack might be among the best of any TV show - and I hate this kind of zoomer music. The episode in the diner? The musical? Masterpieces.
Everybody should watch season 1. As for season 2? Let's see:
Anyway: watch season 1 no matter what. Season 2 is way worse in regards to the plot but still very watchable (and you need to see the musical).
Is this actually how americans live?
So disturbing to watch
Maybe this series is an expression of the problems of teenagers in Europe (developed countries), but in developing countries like Iran, by no means.
really a work of art, the shots, the script and directing work is seriously incredible Plus I seriously ended up hating Jules I love acting
time pass series, can be watched if you have free time
This show was made for our generation I think; with all of its themes about drugs and relationships and school, people like me will always be drawn to it. The cinematography, characters, and story are so amazing, tragic, and engaging that most teenagers can relate on some level to this show.
Literally amazing I was moved, until I wasn’t. But took a while to get over
Overrated trash. Watching this was a marginally more enjoyable experience than getting my wisdom teeth removed.
Why is this show so acclaimed??? This is the most overrated series I've seen yet.
just awful show one of my least favorite tv series it's really overrated, not worth watching
But as the sky darkened and the moon came out, her emotions switched from euphoria to depression, and the world went quiet all of a sudden, and she was sad for no reason, depression makes people lose the concept of time, and all the days are mixed together; after depression, people will try to recall the pleasant moments, but the brain will eat up those happy memories little by little; eventually, just want to know why life is always like this.
Confessions of a bipolar patient, the few that exist, have their reasons.
I have a high school aged son and watching this so far is scaring the sh++ out of me!
I still dont know what to feel about this show. I am kinda disappointed that all the plotlines that i was interested in were just dropped or just wrapped up with little satisfaction. And i dont need every thing to be ended satisfyingly, but this just felt like wasted potential . Zendaya is obviously the star of the show and completely deserves the emmy win.Ep 3 was just amazing and my favourite, and i wish the story focused more on her addiction rather than all the highschool BS that we have seen so many times
Technically this show is top notch , with amazing camerawork, lighting, music ( which felt kinda excessive some times) and acting. The problem comes with the characters and the plot.I found only a handful of side characters interesting and there are a lot of them. Nate whom i was very interested in just becomes the bad guy who does things basically because he is bad. The entire subplot of him lying to the police also didnt really go anywhere(maybe it will be answered in season 2 ) Fezco was another really interesting character and his relationship with Rue was one of the best part of the show. Ali who could have been a great character is just dropped halfway , same with mckay who doesnt even appear in the last ep. The carnival episodes one take was so good. I wish there were more scenes of the cast just sitting and talking like there was in the last ep . All the girls just talking about life and relationships while being drunk was the most relatable scene in the entire show( aside from rue's breakdown in ep 3). There were so many dropped plotlines (which maybe will be resolved in s2) and so many holes and gaps in the story. Also the show wants to include all taboo things but doesnt really want to delve into them deeply. I wish they had just focused on one character (rue) and told the story of a drug addict, instead of including all these highschool drama things. Also Lexi and Rue's relation was so underutilised. All in all a 7- 7.5
/10 with the 3rd ep being a 10/10(just wish there had been more tackling of addiction rather than typical teen drama.) The last ep was okay , but I wish there were more scenes like all the girls just talking about life throughout the show. There also plenty of shots that are just beautiful to look at.There are definitely some scenes which you will look at and think how the hell they did that( like the party scene in ep 1 where rue basically becomes spiderman , or the carnival one take which is so good). All in all it was a good show and had a unique flair to it and definitely stands out among the crowd of teen shows , but suffers because of a weak plot.Still conflicted wether or not to watch season 2. Also Zendaya is the best part of the show
Well Idk, maybe it's kinda generic, I had Skins flashbacks all the freaking time watching this, but it doesn't make the show bad. The last scene of the last episode was freaking amazing, I mean, Euphoria, lol that's a nice touch. I'd gladly watch it just for that scene. Zendaya is top-notch here, one of my favs from now on.

So far I think the show is very good. I feel like I am watching an updated version of Skins (UK) for 2019. Is that a bad thing? No. I think this show has its own stories to tell, but with similar themes. Labrinth's musical direction and original works are superb. I am going to continue watching.
