Doctor Who

Season 8

I like Capaldi as The Doctor, I think he's the most 'different' iteration thus far (talking only about this new version of the show, as I haven't seen the classic one). Clara from the previous season was my favourite companion so far - Amy is a close second - but I found her a little all over the place this season. The writing for her character just seemed quite inconsistent. I still liked her, but if she's going to be written how she was this season going forwards, then I think Amy will probably regain the top spot for me as far as companions go, simply because she was consistently great for longer. Excited to march on and see season 9!

This whole season is a great bit "meh". I hate to say it but I think the current resurgence of Doctor Who has come to and end and is slowly fizzling out. Oh sure, it'll retain its niche popularity, as it has when his happened before (post Tom Baker, for example), but the magic is gone.

It took me nearly three and a half years to watch this season, and I think it's precisely down to what @mystech pointed out. The early Doctor Who reboot seasons were much more interesting on a consistent basis.

I was never a great fan of Peter Capaldi's Doctor, but if he had any redeeming value it's that I still liked him better than Matt Smith.

Because I started this season so long ago, I have an incomplete set of episode ratings. Thus, I haven't calculated an average per my usual routine, just pegged a "gut feeling" rating for the season instead.

This is an awesome series. The stories are all very fun and some of them very clever. The relationship between the Doctor and Clara is brilliant to watch, they are such interesting characters.
