Greatness On A
Different Level
This is my favourite
episode of the season
and one of my all time
Favourite episodes of
the entire show.
The performances are
off the charts and
The Doctor and Sexy
Knock it clean out the
ball park. It's a great
story and a great baddy
and that last act final
scenes are simply
Phenomenal.
This Outstanding episode
is quality from start to
finish and not a fault can
be had with this flawless
Epic Episode.
"Old Girl played her part
to perfection and when
you can see across all
of time and space and
Dimensions that is
exactly how you would act
it was pure genius and
I loved it 3000.
No matter how many
times I've watched and
will watch this episode
it never fails to bring
tears to my eyes.
Truly an amazing episode.
(How many times
has bloody Rory died
now, this feels very
much like a foreshadowe
at this point).
It's a good, solid episode, and i have some criticism.
Another woman forcing herself on a man... In their first meeting...
It would have been nice if they kissed at the end though since they knew how important they were to each other.
In the beginning of the episode i wasn't a fan of the characterization of the tardis personality personified. It's initially presented as if she's mad, which would be kinda true in this situation, but i'm not a fan of the writing in the introduction of her. As the episode goes on though it gets a lot better.
I wish the villain was fleshed out a lot more. The doctor didn't even speculate on it's origins.
Rory wasn't very useful, and was the only one to get tortured.
I like a lot of the ideas this episode. I like the concept of the villain and how initially powerful it seemed, and with it trapping and killing timelords and tardises in a place "outside" the universe. I like the idea of the tardis being personified, which leads to a lot of great moments.
Love seeing the old tardis interior. My favorite. And i liked when the doctor made another barebones tardis in the junkyard, even though itwas quite qucik
I like the flirty relationship between the doctor and the tardis, and damn it helped her being hot.
I like her calling the doctor her thief, and when she talks about making sure he is at the right place at the right time.
I like her confusion of past, present and future moments.
I liked the tardis saying she loves him at the end.
I liked the companions saying even after they're gone, he'll still have her.
I like when the villain plays with Amy and Rory, and there's some existentially scary moments happening, like making a copy of Rory live out decades and being tortured everyday. I don't think it was the villain messing with their heads telepathically, i think it used the weapon of time to mess with them.
I like the doctor this episode, his behavior with Amy and Rory trying to get them out of the way and protect them. His relationship with the tardis. His anger at discovering how many timelords had been killed, and of course there's that great line of "fear me, i killed them all"
Unpopular opinion: I did not like this episode as much as other people do. It may be because it was quite complicated for me to grasp everything due to not been able to watch it with subtitles and the dialogs been so fast at times, but also I think it's because of the hype around its way bigger than it should.
I think Suranne Jones did a great job as Idris/T.A.R.D.I.S because she really sells the idea of how the T.A.R.D.I.S would behave if she could comunicate and shows a great chemestry with the Matt Smith. Also, Michael Sheen does a great job doing the voice acting of House (except for the final scene with it).
With that been said, there is nothing particularly magestic about it. The story works well and offers a good time, but nothing other episodes have done before and better. Seen how Amy lives a nightmare is also something we've have seen before and better portraid with ¨Amy's Choice¨. At moments it also feels it's taking more time than it should (not an excesive amout, but a little too streched notheless) Still good, just not great.
Episode score: 7/10.
Next time The Doctor decides to choose a face, they should consider honouring Idris. Suranne was born to play The Doctor-like roles.

REWATCH
Maybe I'm a little biased because I love Gaiman but HOW INCREDIBLY AMAZING IS THIS EPISODE? How important for the Doctor, and how heartbreakingly good Matt plays Eleventh...
