I consider Doctor Who to be very similar to Star Wars. In the sense that it’s all Star Wars, you can have favourite characters and episodes, but saying things like “I don’t like the prequels they ruined it”, I’m sorry but you’re not a real Star Wars fan. This mentality can be used with Doctor Who. People who don’t skip whole seasons because they don’t like the person playing the character or the show runner is bad is not a real Doctor Who fan. This is what the show is, complaining about it won’t make you enjoy it more. Jodie is an amazing Doctor, Yaz is a great companion. You’re all just complainers.
I love this return to serial style set up. This episode is obviously all setup and there was a lot of characters to keep track of, but I really enjoyed this. I’m excited to see where it goes. I love this. Is it my favourite Doctor? Companion? Show Runner? No. But I understand and accept those things are out of my control. It’s all Doctor Who. And it’s all good.
The worst thing is, it's not even witty or funny anymore. Just going through the motions, in every sense of the word.
Mhmhn, I'm considering to skip the season. Till a new doctor arises. Whittaker is soooooooo annoying as the doctor.
Just finished it. Great first episode. Had a nice scope to it - the flux seems so interesting and that ending montage had me on the edge of my seat. Excited to see where this goes!
I wish I could slow it down, I find myself asking, what did she just say. Not understanding the fast paced, everything is so exciting or end of the world pace of this doctor. Wondering what happened to the moon and the sun?
Better than what we've had in a couple of years at least. I am utterly baffled how the production quality & CGI can be both high quality for a 2021 production and poor quality even if this had been from 2005 in the same episode, though.
I'm rewatching episodes starting from eccleston era and the amount of times I've heard the word flux
The story is far better than the acting.. that's the problem. Peter was an AWFUL doctor and Jodie is only slightly better. The Doctor's Companions? We've gone from superstars like Billie, Karen Gillian and Jenna to... who? Mandip is a terrible actor. It's time to clean the slate and start over. It's time to get a John Hurt type or Tamsin Greig instead of some horrible actor who cannot play the part and has zero appeal. I mean, the goose bumps with "Introducing John Hurt as The Doctor" in "The name of the Doctor" episode. Everyone one of us Doctor Who fans felt it when that flashed on the screen. Instead we got moron Peter and now poor Jodie who's tanking her career because she has male showrunners in a show that was written for 50 years as a male lead trying to force feed us a female. If the BBC feels they need to change then get a female showrunner first, then the female star. You know, so the role is believable.
This is just a mess. I grieve for the future of DOCTOR WHO.
The usage of the bike (this comment was about the episode before this one, a special one off)
I am so pleased that this show is being taken over again by Russell... Wtf was that plot line, and why bother starting 4 or 5 arcs in one episode. I really hope the questions from the last series are answered, Chibnall may redeem himself yet. Poor writing so far.
First episode looks much better than what we got the last two seasons. Almost feels like the Doctor is finally back again.
pls why he looks like handsome squidward? :sob:
Proper good Doctor Who - one of the best of the current era, suitably chaotic and all over the place but I love the dog monster and both Vinder and Dan Lewis are more charismatic than both Ryan and Graham, who I admittedly quite like. The Doctor being a Liverpool fan I'm less of a fan of though.
Chibnall's best at serialisation and this is him playing to his strengths, the ending shots of all the major players involved felt very Broadchurch episode 1 ending-y. There's a lot going on - almost too much, but it's fairly simple to follow - The Doctor fighting the end of the universe, and I loved it. The bit about the alien Dogs being man's best friend was hilarious too (as was The Doctor being Trent Alexander Arnold's ball boy, and the nod to the Scottish accents) - very Moffat-y in tone and sheer amount of stuff going on. This feels like what Series 6 would have been like had it been allowed to be full serialised and I'm absolutely here for this Shada/Trial of the Time Lords approach. The smaller TARDIS crew works wonders for now, and Yaz has gone full Clara here - meaning her days are surely numbered (possible death of both The Doctor and Yaz at the same time but with The Doctor regenerating looking on the cards here?) - but I like that she's getting to call out The Doctor.
Also like - as one of the 5 people that didn't mind Timeless Children - that they're going full in with The Division plot. Hopefully this leads to more surprise cameos and it'd be rude to not see Ruth!Doctor one more time - Jo Martin was excellent in Fugitive of the Judoon. The Weeping Angels haven't been overused (they last appeared in Obama's first term) so I'm excited to see more of them especially under a different showrunner than Moffat. More to come with most of these - it's all set-up and so much is now riding on the payoff, but what a way to keep me hooked for next week.
Might actually rewatch this before next week's as I'm also in the middle of a Series 12 rewatch (just ran out of time to do it before Series 13, sadly) - and it's been a while since I watched a Who episode twice in the same week. Big fan. Will miss 13 when she goes...
Really? This is the most original they can get? Poor man’s version of Chewbacca!
Sooo she is not in prison anymore? Did they scrap that idea or have I missed something? The story in this episode is all over the place. To much going on, to many jumps to different people who I dont understand why we would care. The two ghost thing or what ever they are, the makeup and costume is soo ugly. But the doggy thing was very cute. And it was great to see the Weeping Angel. Hopefully Chibnall won’t destroy them like he has done with everything else. I don’t understand why I continue watching. Every time I think maybe this episode is better, but after I’m always just so sad and so disappointed.
Actually had no idea I missed watching the show in 2021 lol. Though I don’t care that much. Since these days with how PC it is, it might as well be a CW series.
So they replaced one old white guy with a slightly old white guy as the side kick…how original!
When a santaran tries to get plastic surgery
But seriously looks really bad the dog creature and the other villain looked cool.

THE GOOD:
Chris Chibnall allows sufficient time to introduce new companion Dan Stevens, and John Bishop makes the character his own from the very beginning. He is easily likable, even through that thick accent. I like his comedic qualities and sassy persona.
The Lupari is such a simple concept for a new alien species that it’s a wonder we haven’t seen something like it before (I guess the Tharils from Warrior’s Gate (1981) comes close). They are like a Wookie combined with the Jedi.
With Ryan and Graham out of the picture, the dynamic between the Doctor and Yaz is finally allowed to bloom, and it feels good for the most part.
I love seeing the Angels. They are once again scary, and even though they are used for nothing but a scary effect, I’m sure we’re going to see them again very soon.
This one is very good visually whenever it’s not trying to do too much. The simple special effects, the costumes, and make-up, and the cinematography look slick. The new Sontaran design, mimicking their classic series look, is awesome.
This episode is an explosive start to the Flux storyline, promising a pretty packed ride throughout the remaining five episodes. The stakes certainly feel high and promise one of the bigger adventures we’ve seen on the show. It also plants a few intriguing seeds that I hope will be returned to later on.
THE BAD:
The beginning of the episode is so sudden and confusing and weird that it took me by surprise. It gave me no chance to orientate myself. It’s a bit too overwhelming when mixed with the most ridiculous alien landscape we’ve seen so far.
I feel like there’s a bit too much going on here. The story spans multiple locations across time and there are many characters and ideas at plays here, all of which don’t mix very well. There’s no time to develop everything properly or to make us care for the supporting characters. This entire thing feels too ambitious to come alive on a BBC budget.
My main problem is how Chibnall seems to throw in every single alien species and introduce every single plot thread of the season in this one normal-length episode, making it very unfocused and overstuffed. He should have focused on a couple of things initially and then bring in new layers in later episodes since the entire series is one big story anyway.
This episode feels more like an endless tease than an actual episode, and some things, such as the Sontaran stuff, could easily have been moved over to the next episode.
FAVORITE MOMENT:
Weeping Angels weeping the heck out of me!
35/50 = GOOD = SKIPPABLE!
It’s been a while, but let’s do this! Wooooo, Series 13! Well… the first episode of the Flux story really does have a lot of classic Chibnall setups. Let’s see if he can pull his last Doctor Who story off. It really makes me sad to see Jodie’s last story as the Doctor. It could’ve been a great era, really. The story does feel big (as it should be!) with many threads being pulled from all sides. I can’t wait to see how all things connect at the very end. Full of new and old stuff! I feel the story is flowing from past, present and future. All at the same time. It was a fun introduction for a new companion. Kind of reminded me of how Rose was introduced to us. I hope to get to know Dan a little bit more. Nice chap. He lives right next to the Anfield! Glad to see we’re following the story of “The Division” from last series story arc. It was a pretty big addition to the canon to not follow during Series 13, right? I can’t wait to see how Karvanista is involved in all of this and how much does he know about the Time Lords. It was pretty much a setup episode with loads of seeds being planted. Like this Claire woman running from the Weeping Angels! What is she up to? How does she know the Doctor and Yaz? What about Swarm and Azure? They definitely know who the Doctor is. What are they up to, huh?
But unfortunate calling the mcguffin 'the flux'. Hope it doesn't end bloodily.
Seems like Jodies final season might actually be good.
Yas is still an incredibly boring and shallow character though, and it's pretty clear that John Bishop isn't really an actor.
Best Chibnall opener, I liked Dan and Karvanista is cool!
Swifty, swifty, blink and you'll miss it, still... worth the watch. Onward we go.
Oh Yes , the return of the Weeping Angels !!!

One word sums this episode up "BORING"
The story-line was all over the place and in the end none of it came together, they even managed to ruin the Dr Who theme tune at the end!!
