This was SO hard to watch.
[7.1/10] Here’s the thing. The core of this episode is good. Bob’s love of cooking breakfast food dovetailing into a disastrous attempt at the restaurant doing brunch, and the kids wanting a dog dovetailing into a zany game of hide and seek between the Fishoeders, is very sound writing. And those two stories naturally coexisting and then colliding is nicely done. The laughs are there, and the addition of “Dame Judy Brunch” is a lot of fun.
But man do the constantly-shifting art styles get in the way of the story and make the episode hard to watch at times. I like that Bob’s Burgers is trying to find ways to connect with its passionate fanbase and reflect the creativity therein, but this was the wrong way to do it. Maybe a 22 Short Films About Springfield-style mini-anthology, or even just a little music video adopting this tack could have worked. But trying to tell one continuous story while the look kept changing and changing was just distracting and disorienting the whole way through. I can appreciate the ambitiousness and democratic spirit of the experiment, but it can only be termed a failure.
Still, the rest of the episode is quite good. The A-story with Bob and Linda trying to do brunch is great. Linda getting wrapped up in something and aided by an overenthusiastic stranger almost always works on this show, and Bob talking to his eggs was as delightful as any “Bob chats with inanimate objects” interaction.
The B-story with the kids trying to help Felix hide from Calvin in order to make enough money to buy a dog was great too. Louise having a tete-a-tete with Mr. Fischoeder is always fun, and the lengths the kids go to in order to conceal their confederate is great. And the resolution, with unruly brunchers mixing with a hide-and-seek dust up until the cops come, falls together nicely. Plus the tag with the kids playing with Dame Judy’s dog hit just the right now.
Overall, this would be a good, maybe even great, episode if it were animated in the normal style, but the constantly shifting designs make it a well-meaning misfire that drags down otherwise quality material.
I loved this! Brunch skunks, and seeing the Belchers drawn in so many hilarious styles made me howl my balls off!
That was a bit of a psychedelic trip to me! :joy: I love how different styles of drawings and animation can bring out more fun in watching the Belchers.
I appreciate the idea behind the mashup of art styles but in practice I found it difficult to watch. The varied art styles made the episode feel disjointed, especially when the style changed mid-scene.
This is a strong episode dragged down by the shifting art style, which is a shame because the art itself was great.
this episode was more jarring to watch than usual.
Now I know I'm a brunch skunk
this was a dreadful idea that was impossible to pay attention to
good for them for trying something different but this was a mess and would have given me a headache had I not switched it off after 3 minutes
The style changes every few minutes is very distracting.

I guess I'm an art lover with Mom-osa tastes (it's not Kitsch).
I wish they made a regular animated version of this episode
this is so STRANGE(?) to watch

Personally, seeing all the different styles makes this one of my favorite episodes of Bob's Burgers!
