[7.3/10] Another fun Halloween episode from Bob’s Burgers. The A-story is a good Linda and Gail adventure. Doing an I Know What You Did Last Summer for smashed pumpkins is a nice combination of the dramatic and the mundane, and the jumps back and forth between high school and the premise makes the mystery feel more momentous. Linda and Gail’s dynamic continues to be a treat, and the duo confounding their old acquaintances while trying to solve the mystery of who’s sending them vaguely threatening letters about having wrecked the pumpkin carving contest is a good comedy engine.
The resolution worked for me. Linda confessing that she smashed her own pumpkin so as not to outshine poor Gail is sweet, and Gail telling Linda that she loves her and wants to know what’s going on in her life is even sweeter. Maybe I’m a soft touch, but this one ends with a lot of sap, and it totally worked on me. I also enjoyed that the whole shebang was a bizarre plot from Gail’s life coach that at least sorta worked? It’s a fun reveal.
The B-story, with Bob giving out good candy on Halloween for once, while the Belcher kids lament that there’ll be nothing left for them. The onslaught of grabby little kids and the Belcher bunch glumly looking on as the supply dwindles is a solid bit. As with the A-story, it ends on a sappy note with Bob having saved each of his kids one of the pieces of good candy, and again, it worked on me.
Overall, another episode that falls into “pretty good” rather than “great” territory, but which is still a thoroughly enjoyable outing for the show.
we told him we were doing marijuanas under the bleachers!
