[6.0/10] Sigh. Another underwhelming Gene episode. Bob worrying that his son is too into a bootleg tamagotchi to appreciate something genuinely interesting, only to realize that Gene finds creative ways to engage with whatever he’s into, isn’t the worst idea. But Gene’s pretty annoying with his toy, and Bob’s a bit hectoring over the whole thing. It’s also not clear why Gene being practically comatose while playing a simple game over the course of days is not a questionable thing just because he made a little song at the end. I guess there’s a few good laughs.
The two subplots are big nothings. Linda waiting for Teddy’s salmon delivery has its moments, because Linda and Teddy are a hoot every time. But there’s not much to it. The same goes for Tina and Louise playing a game where they lasso jelly beans with a sticky hand while riding a little grocery store kiddie ride. It’s slight as all hell, and doesn’t bring much in the way of laughs. The episode has a few decent chuckles overall, but is light in the comedy department.
Overall, a lower light for the season which is still watchable, but falls on the lower end of the Bob’s Burgers spectrum.
