[7.8/10] Another fun episode where I enjoyed both halves. Linda and Bob trying to be cool like their spontaneous hipster friends, despite being completely out of their element, is a recipe for laughter. And the kids taking advantage of their babysitter and getting into trouble is a great set up as well.
For the former, the little bits poking fun at hipster culture, and Bob and Linda’s obliviousness to it, were great. Linda not getting the drinks being served in jars or the leaves in her cocktail, and the guests being involved in activities like making biodegradable and edible ukeleles is good stuff. The Belcher’s awkwardness when performance time arrives, and their faltering attempts to pretend to be Bobby Darin and Linda Rondstadt was very funny. Plus a random attendee had the line of the night when she asked if they were doing some sort of play about Linda’s old phone.
What’s more, the episode ends on a nice note, with the hipster couple helping Bob and Linda finding their kids, and declaring that even if the Belchers blache at starting a party after ten, they live the most spontaneous and exciting lives they’ve ever seen. It’s a nice tribute to the small scale weirdness of the Belcher family.
The kids’ story is good too. Jen is a great addition to the Belcher siblings’ milieu, and her easy pliability and confusion makes for some good laughs. The whole situation of the four getting stuck in Jen’s cousin’s ice cream machine is just silly enough to work. And Tina earnestly treating a stripper dressed like a cop like he’s a police officer, only to be wowed when she realizes she’s in a strip club, is a good bit too. (The same goes for Bob legitimately enjoying the pickles at Pickles.)
Overall, this one’s a lot of fun, with plenty of that classic Belcher family mischief and awkwardness.
