[7.0/10] Ah man, it’s so weird just jumping into this one (caught it while flipping channels) without the build up to it over the prior two seasons’ worth of episode, and knowing where the series goes with Barry and Katya down the line. It’s a little hard to orient yourself, to be honest.
But there’s still some classic Archer humor and action in this one. Archer continues to be terrible, but his misguided adventures in Russia have a certain amount of suspense, sass-filled humor, and insane Bond-esque mayhem to them. I probably got more laughs out of the action back home, where the rest of the ISIS staff gives Mallory the business over her relationship with her Russian counterpart. The main comedic stuff in Russia didn’t blow me away, if only because the Barry stuff goes a bit too far at times, and the ending is basically a deus ex machina, but there’s still good material.
Overall, not my favorite ep, and I forgot how early some of these serialized elements came into play to where it’s harder to slip back into this one, but there’s still some good laughs and good action.
