And here I was thinking the original Resident Evil laser scene was cool.
The nanofiber scene was awesome, better than the "Ghost Ship" one (remember that) or "Cube".
But i'm confused in many ways. Did they really expect to destroy everything but the little USB disk to survive ?
If they have never evolved, how did they have such technology ?
The boat scene is amazing. Did it cost half of the show budget ? And yet it's so stupid. 2 days to recreate in extreme conditions and at a x500 scale something that has been done once in a lab ? That was the only sure way to get a disk off that boat ? Really ? The chances something failed were huge. And even if it works... What were the chances that it would be naturally cut off ? That they would have time to react and destroy it ? That it would not survive the destruction ?
We still don't know what is Wade's agency, but it's looks like it's not top secret, and it's better than MI5.
The Sophon is a bit wtf, but it is great too, since it actually offers an explanation for almost everything:
- The blinking stars (but not why they did that for her only and no one before)
- The reason for stopping scientists. The "We'll only arrive in 400 years and by then you'll have the means to stop us, so we'll just cripple your science" is a pretty smart move.
- The broken physics of the first episode. It made no sense (if subatomic particle start behaving differently, reality itself falls apart), but since it's only interfering with lab results, that's a great explanation.
- How they communicate (but not who built the actual physical headset for the game. Though maybe it's not even doing anything. We've seen they can hack people's brains directly, like with the countdown, so we could assume they can put anyone in the game at any moment with or without headset)
Still a bit confused on their motives. It seemed like the Lord thing had been going on for decades, but on the other hand, real communication would have only started at the arrival of the Sophon, so about a month. Still, by being able to observe the whole of Earth, wouldn't it have discovered lying almost immediately ? At least we know they immediately started to kill scientists, so, were there ever a moment with good intentions ? And let's not forget the original message. Also, they actually may never have said they were going to save anybody, that could actually be entirely made up by the cult.
That was amazing but I’m also wondering can’t they harness the power of infinite universe to destroy their 3 sun problem or shift them to another dimension. Run away seems like the last approach they should have taken.
Impressive tension build up, final and the way they pulled all the strings together.
Best episode so far
It's fine. Dr Who will save us from the Atraxi by declaring Article fifty seven of the Shadow Proclamation, and telling them who he is.
People of the earth can you hear me?
Came a voice from the sky on that magical night
And in the colors of a thousand sunsets
They traveled through the world on a silvery light
I got the feeling that the entire series is made to try to justify that scene on the ship, and yet it absolutely makes no sense whatsoever. The explanation that it was the only way to get the hard drive is completely ridiculous. With all the current technology, the author has to be really clueless to think that the best way to obtain that hard drive is by assembling, in 6 days, a gigantic version of an experimental technology still in testing, and have it work.
I reeaaaaally hope there is a very good explanation as to why all the important people are related to each other or close friends. I am crossing my fingers some child didn't write this
I thought the point of using the nano strings was to caused as minimum destruction as possible, because the point of the mission was to retrieve information, and they didn’t know what it was, like a black box, records, journals, a hard drive… or where it was, and at first I was like yes this makes sense but then the whole ship collapsed and it stopped making sense.
And isn’t it hilarious that the aliens turned on us because of freaking little red riding hood??
haven't seen the chinese version but as number one body horror fan i fucking loved this episode
Nanofibers go brrrrrr. Otherwise kinda mid.
This episode went full on Independence Day.
I can't believe that the Chinese adaptation somehow did Judgement Day infinitely better with a fraction of the budget :sob::sob::sob:
Wait a minute… Ye's daughter is fathered by Evans?! Okay, fine. That actually makes sense in this version of the story.
I liked the effects...
And the way things happen, I don't think it's bad...
Although the characters don't appeal to me at all...
Killing all science… hmm.
Well, this is taking off now. Mirror cities. How terrifyingly cool is that.
I guess everyone would believe something if they suddenly saw an eye in the sky.
I liked this more than Oppenheimer.
and we will teach you to fear again. yup, im scared.
Benedict Wong's acting is topping everybody in this show. He's not pushing it and that leads to a really natural performance.

really bad writing considering the source
OK, I'm out. 2 episodes in a row has the c___ word in it! I'm a potty mouth but that is just gratuitous use of the most vulgar and disgusting word I can think of! The show isn't good enough to keep me watching if they are going to continue to use this level of profanity. They could just as easily put the point across by using "the f_ing ba_rds"
I'll go watch something more interesting and less unintelligent.
Wow, they were so incredibly lucky that not only was the drive intact, but was also easy to find. I guess the Lord wanted it that way. I have to give the episode a high rating anyway, so many cool things and so bananas.
You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!
bombing the ship on an operation may destroy the hard drive, but running it through the shredder made more sense how?
So we are supposed to believe the proton folding level tech is at most only 400years in the future for humans? (okay)
I liked the quantum explanation for the speed of communication but if they are able to mess with high dimensions to that extent surely they could have solved the 3suns problem  (so they maybe lying why they are doing this)
Eye of Sauron. The answer is 42.
I think at the end of this season, I'm going to re-read the book. I seem to remember that the science in it was sometimes as ropey as depicted. But. The destruction of the ship was just as graphic in written form.
@Vassilis - Yeah, definite "Ghost Ship" (on steroids) vibes. Wasn't a "USB" drive as it held a couple hundred Petabytes, and, since they WANTED us to see the contents, "they" may have gifted it to the dude on the ship, and if so, it might not be vulnerable to anything we could throw at it, even nanotech that could cut diamonds and by extension, Ships, into ribbons. They kept acting benevolent until they were ready to spring the terror dome on the planet. Now that it's been deployed, they can let it be known that they view humanity like ants at a picnic. We won't be living in the pods eating bugs, we ARE the bugs! NOM NOM!
The Nano Fibre scene was amazing! But it appears that the Aliens are not going to be very friendly from now on. :flushed::thinking:

Oh, hell yeah. I've been waiting to see how well they pulled off the nanofibers cutting through the ship. Nailed it!
