A suspenseful thriller, with a plot that is complex and multi-layered. Emily Blunt delivers an excellent performance as Rachel, a troubled woman who becomes entangled in a dangerous web of secrets and lies. Her portrayal is both raw and nuanced, capturing the character's pain and desperation perfectly. The supporting cast is also excellent, with standout performances from Haley Bennett and Rebecca Ferguson. The film's direction is stylish and creates a sense of unease and tension that fills every scene.
completely insane! this movie is so good!
I liked, very much, to be realistic. I felt myself lost in this drunken insanity of Rachel and didn't expect that end.
Better than Gone Girl in my opinion. Emily Blunt's acting is scary good.
To fully appreciate the plot twists, read the book.
Finally watched this movie after avoiding it like plague for years. I always thought of the Girl on the Train as trying to capitalize on Gone Girl fever, but it proved to be a great thriller for a Sunday evening. Hard to watch this woman being a mess for the majority of the film, but once the intrigue grabs you, it's hard to look away.
It wasn't a bad film, but was boring me a little at times... just didn't make it to the station in time... good performance thought.. but all over the place with the story...
It took me quite a long time to get into this movie. It has a rather slow build up. But it is worth to go through. Do you know Gillian Flynn? Well, if you love her you most certainly are going to love this movie. It's the same type of thriller, filled with wonderful twists and turns you never expected, and then when you're at the very end of the movie and everything falls into place, ugh that's so good. I love that part.
Let me start this part by saying how absolutely amazing Emily Blunt her acting was. I think this is one of the best parts I have seen her play. Very well done. Rebecca Ferguson was so good as well, I really disliked her character. (that's a good thing) (to be honest, I was pretty sure her character killed Megan) I could name all the other actors as well, but the acting was in general pretty great. One more thing I want to say: Haley Bennett has a very pretty face.
I really enjoyed The Girl on the Train. I could understand though if some people don't because it starts out kind of vague (my parents didn't like it at all so we stopped at 20 minutes and I finished it by myself, ha). I can safely tell you, it's worth going through. This is a movie which makes you filled with speculations and excitement to find out what actually happened.
First off; great acting. Emily Blunt did an amazing job at this role. Okay movie, which ended just in time before it got boring. Kept you off track until the last fifteen minutes, so for me they did a good job. Worth a watch.
the real gag is rachel repeatedly being described as fat and ugly in the book and then emily blunt being cast as rachel
Watched w mom after reading book, great movie.
After reading the book, I did NOT like this movie. All the good parts of the book were butchered by this. Maybe it was good if you didn’t read the book.
So I watched "The Girl on the Train" back in October. Why I'm reviewing it now? That will stay unknown.
This isn't really a review of any sort, but what I got from this and the main Plot Keywords. And that is:
Men are evil
Women are pathetic drunks
alcohol is bad
Hangovers are worst
Relationship sucks
Divorce
Sex
Nudity
Woods
Train
A predicable ending
And Gone Girl did it better (somehow)
Insert Gone Girl jokes here
I don't care what how people are gonna hate this movie a lot, i thought Emily Blunt did an amazing job on this one.
This was nothing special. It was an interesting story and was compelling enough for its runtime. Not sure how it will stand up to repeated viewings, in saying that I will more than likely never watch it again. I think many people will draw comparisons to Gone Girl, particularly through its tone and the soundtrack. Acting was on point with a fantastic performance from Emily Blunt.
Not having read the book, I entered the film knowing very little about the story.Emily Blunt carries the dark spirit from beginning to end, I give it a solid 7. Emily Blunt needs to get an Oscar nominee for #TheGirlOnTheTrain tho !
I found The Girl on the Train to be fairly interesting throughout the whole runtime but there is a really weak twist in the third act that ruins the movie and turns it into a soap opera pretty quickly.
'Couse you have to know how to drink ;) But seriously, Emily Blunt - quite good performance.
Very weak plot, no tension nothing to keep you in alert. A mediocre combination of single white female and gone girl
I liked this better upon second watch. It's a compelling tale about how women are manipulated by narcissistic men. There were a number of strong performances throughout by Emily Blunt, Rebecca Ferguson, and Haley Bennett. Their work really made this film come together.
Go watch, and read comments latter. The less you know, the better.
It was excrucitating to watch as Rachel starts to unravel what happened and what she went through especially in the train with Lisa Kudrow's character revelation. I know it was kinda obvious at that point, but I think that shows how good actress Emely Blunt is. She totally sold her character's despair and confusion. Kudos to her. I've always loved her movies, and it seems that every single one I watch my appreciation for her just grows.
Don't read spoilers for it. Even though the ending is kind foretold way back if you watch closely, at the point where Megan's outcome is revealed and the whole Anna and Rachel situation is playing out at the finals confrontation , I was so tense that I cought myself out of breath. I literally had to remember I had to breath. Haha
Really, I don't remember having a reaction like that to a suspence movie in a long time.
Emily Blunt is amazing! Quite decent adaptation of thr book
Tense. Erratic. Thrilling. Enjoyed it a lot but not for everyone
Emily Blunt is incredible, but she can't safe the movie with its weak screenplay and the awful obvious twist.
a confusing film, with an ideology about vices and loves very well attributed.
I had no idea what to expect - I hadn't even seen the trailer for this movie. It started out slow but built up into a pretty decent mystery/thriller. Definitely worth your time.
Definitely better than expected. Difficult to understand from time to time, but then it al lo clicks. It has many strong scenes, specially at the end.
Just a boring movie. It’s basically what it says, a girl on the train, watching people in their homes
boring , filled with messed up characters.
What an outstanding perfomance by Emily Blunt! The story is interesting and mysterious, and I have to admit, the ending was surprising. Definitely watch it!
Very slow to start, I must’ve tried seven or eight times but I’m glad I watched it. It was very good it has some twists, a little action, suspense I wish they would let you give half stars I would’ve given this 7 1/2. Good performances nice date night movie.
Around halfway through this started to get interesting. Emily Blunt is excellent, but the story felt far too disjointed to work. Also way too much voice-over, I know it was adapted from a book but interior monologues very rarely work in film.
So many things lacking in the movie, but I feel like the last half hour made up for it. Still I prefer the book, it had more... personality? And I love how the tunnel scene ended up just as I imagined.
Watching the movie made me appreciate the book more. Not that this was bad, but it's just a glimmer lf the depth the book has, and the slow burn is better.
I really enjoyed how an actually simple murder plot got so exciting, just by the narrative structure. Good acting on top and I shall even forgive that the police actually should have managed to find the murderer at least after they found the corpse (and identified who couldn't be the dads).
Yeah, so that girl... she sure was on that train, huh?
Meh. It's not specially bad, but almost nothing stands out either. It's story starts really slow and boring, and the visual style and music are a perfect match for that, which doesn't help make things interesting.
Emily Blunt is good, she's quite convincing as an alcoholic with a weird obsession, but that's not enough to make the character interesting.
The others are ok too, except Luke Evans, but the characters are empty and you kinda feel like every last one of them is bored to death. Maybe they're not, maybe only the viewer is.
The story doesn't seem that bad, several twists interesting twists.
Your perception of the main character evolves in an interesting way along the movie.
It's a girl on a train. Ah, she's kinda stalking this other girl she sees from the train. Why not. OK, she takes her spot on the train on purpose for that. Weirdo. And she's a drunk. She just stay on the train getting drunk the whole day. Getting creepy. And she's the bad kind of drunk, her poor husband. She's kidnapping babies ? What a bitch! Ah turns out she wasn't that bad.
That point's probably the main interest of the movie, it seems good when you think about it, but when you see it, it just does not work.
It gets slightly better in the last 20 minutes when things get revealed, even if it's quite unoriginal, but you really have to hang on to get there.
Also the drunk person struggling to finally remember what happened trope is kinda bad. When you're drunk like she is, you don't forget what happened, your brain just never wrote it to memory. So there's no way it can come back, because it was never there in the first place.
Very haunting and eccentric. Emily Blunt's performance was incredible, however the movie was too dark and emotional for my liking. It leaves me with a bitter feeling. Abusive relationships, cheating, alcohol abusive, and motherhood are all topics not to be taken lightly, it's very sensitive and a lot of people can relate by experiencing it or witnessing it.
Well. Emily Blunt certainly plays a very convincing drunk. LOL
Wow stellar acting performance from Emily Blunt! I couldn't take my eyes of the screen and I had a great time with the shifting timelines telling a compelling story. As mentioned here in comments, it reminded me a lot of Gone Girl which is a compliment! Very solid but slow mystery thriller and I recommend it!
The film has intriguing and stylish elements but lacks the nuanced depth to take full advantage.
What got me through this was Emily Blunt. She drives this movie with her performance. Because the plot isn´t that original to be frank. It´s about sex, having affairs, ******* other peoples wifes. And it was obvious to early who is the bad guy. Not totally bad but nothing you want to watch again.
Mediocre chick-flick. Actually, this genre needs a new moniker, I'm going to suggest chick-schlock.
Watched this last night. I waited so I had finished the book, hoping to get more out of this movie. Emily Blunt's acting was on point, she was great. Anna's character was left shallow. Ending was just like in the books; too rushed. I think this was entertaining (as a book and movie) but I doubt I would watch (or read) it again. Not that good.
Good movie, slow build up
Emily Blunt and a surprisingly robust cast do a good job but the biggest problem is the lackluster and predictable plot that feels like a watered down ‘Gone Girl’. Passable entertainment that probably works better as a novel.
I found this movie pretty entertaining. Nice twist at the end.
I bet the book is way better even though the movie was quite good as well. It started out weird and I was not sure how to follow but then the story unraveled and – even though it was kind of obvious at some point – become clearer and more interesting. The actors were quite convincing I have to admit but I can really imagine the book bringing even more suspense to the story.
I was quite disappointed when i realised the movie was set and filmed in new york, the novel is set in London. But turned out i loved it, perhaps because of the Emily blunt's acting (and accent). In the novel you kind of get bored of alcoholic Rachel, that doesn't happen watching the movie though.
Really liked this film, some great twists!
I thought to myself 'at least these characters are multi-dimensional' but are they? Not one of these characters is a good person, which I guess can happen, but unlikely. I had no idea who directed this or anything until the credits, but I could already tell it was going to be a man. The reason that I could tell so easily? Even though there were terrible (in character) men in the film, the way that the movie was filmed objectified women a lot. It would be interesting to read the screenplay, just to see how much of it was written in before hand, as I'm pretty sure the writer was a man too?
Getting over that, the only character building that happened was Rachel's, and I suppose Anna's, who kind of stood up for themselves in the end. That was the only character building. Because, guess what? Just because you reveal that all the characters are lying cheats and have no morals, that doesn't mean that the character has changed at all. Tell me, what did these men think about what they did? What effect did it have? What were their reactions? Why did we suddenly forget about Scott and the Doctor? This movie was poorly put together.
Another part I have to put forward on the 'poorly put together' front is that the movie focused on three different women, but also three different men, and all these people were intertwined in different ways. Sure, it may have been a part of the plot that Anna and Megan looked alike, but what need was there for three similar looking men - who were similar even if one was Hispanic? At the start, when you're just cutting scenes together without naming names, it gets damn confusing, and hell maybe I just don't like the style of movie, but I think this is makes it a poor movie and not worth seeing.
Not a bad movie but not too good either... What makes it watchable is the good performances but apart from that nothing great, the story could've been so good but the fact that I knew who was responsible for the missing girl like five minute after she was missing blew the whole thing right away, that been said, don't expect too much.
Whilst I applaud the screenwriters for distilling the essence of the novel, it felt too rushed and too badly paced in certain parts. Certain scenes were flown through so quickly that they almost felt tacked on, just to have them in there. They lost me at the last 15 minutes of the movie, I'm afraid to say. It almost had a cheesy quality to it, which ruined the overall experience of the movie.
I tried to watch this movie because i hate people that watch me when i work (ie. on car) or when i'm at home and don't have the blinds rolled down. So to know what is going in that person head.
Anyway 15m into the movie and i think timeline is somehow messed up, it does not make sense, or i already don't know who is who :/.
Maybe it is meant to be that way as main protagonist is messed up in head (since she is watching other people inside their homes, she definitely is :D ), but it is just bad in the movie anyway.
UPDATE: i watched it to the end my original rating of 3/10 was spot on. (as explained in previous paragraph - boring stupid mindfuck movie)
a solid whodunit story in which the main female characters are interesting as hell and Emily Blunt deliver quite the performance
Emily Blunt one of the best actors out there and delivered great performance as usual, this movie is Thriller really keeps you locked in for the rest of the minutes.kinda little set your mood off in a way or maybe that just for me. anyway good movie i enjoyed it, it could've been great but none to do now, good!
Emily Blunt born to be a drunk character. The movie deserves a 6 but I'll give an extra point for Blunt.
The film is close to derailing due to the many flashbacks building up the narrative. However, Emily Blunt gives a fine performance and she keeps the film on track. The story improves once we begin to solve the puzzle and there is a satisfying corkscrew of a twist!
Not bad, but the solution they drew tricking the viewer and I do not like
boring film, nothing that keeps you concentrated on the film. I dont recommend it.

If you, like I, saw the trailer for this movie, and thought, "Why see this? They've given the whole plot away in the preview!", think again! This movie has lots of twist and turns, but it's a worthy ride. The three actresses did a superb job fleshing out their characters. I rate this a 7.5 (compelling) out of 10. I was exhausted just watching Emily Blunt portray a women struggling with her demons to find herself.
