What? No Milla Jovovich? Wouldn't be the same.
Man, where to start with this.
I guess I'll start with the good.
The set designs for this were on point. The police headquarters and the mansion were very well done and very faithful to the games. However the train set up looked horribly underdone.
The makeup effects for the infected was actually pretty creepy. It felt like a fairly realistic version of what people who are sick and slowly getting sicker would look like. Their bones starting to protrude more, hair loss, saggy skin, and just overall sickly. I really wish we would have gotten more of this and less of the CGI. The few practical effects we got, I actually enjoyed.
Speaking of CGI, it was absolutely horrendous in this movie. It felt like they were trying to invoke the same exact CGI used in the original games but it just didn't work here. The birkin monster, the dog, the licker and the truck crash just looked horrible. Even crappy CGI nowadays is pretty good and this looks like something an amateur did 15 years ago in their basement.
I really feel only Claire had any really character development. All the other characters barely had any time to flesh out and felt like hollow imitations of their game counterparts. Especially Leon. That's twice now that a resident evil movie has been attempted with probably the most well-known character from the games and somehow managed to completely screw him up. That's not on the actor, he did about as well as he could with just a really bad interpretation of Leon Kennedy.
Unfortunately it seems like they tried to fit multiple storylines into one movie. They really should have broken this up into multiple movies, or honestly, a TV series. We barely spent any time with the infected or the mutations. Nothing in this movie felt like a real threat because each thing was dead soon after it was introduced. Rarely does a movie feel like it has too much and too little at the same time. This accomplice that feat well.
Now the suspenseful parts it did, IE the girl running off into the woods, the girl in the orphanage, the infected at the gate, and the zombie's swarming and attacking at the mansion was actually very well done. I absolutely loved those parts and wish we would have gotten so much more of that.
I appreciate that this movie tried to keep it somewhat faithful to the original material, however, the other resident evil movie spent way more time with the zombies and with the mutations and made each feel like a legitimate threat. None of the creatures in this one felt scary or threatening because they didn't have time to.
I liked parts of it well enough to hope that they actually go through with a sequel and hopefully in the sequel, they spend more time fleshing out characters, spend more on their CGI, and make the creatures involved feel like legitimate threats.
CGI: 3 out of 10
Acting: 5 out of 10
Set Design: 8 out of 10
Practical Effects: 8 out of 10
Rewatch: 4 out of 10
If you want to waste your time and money, watch this movie.
This is the simplest comment and reaction that I can describe this movie in brief.
I really regret that I chose to watch this movie and waste a day of the weekend on something that is not worth it.
Back in High School me and buddies played better scripted Resident Evil games in our backyard than this mess. I mean the f... did they do to my boy Leon? other characters also barely recognizable. its bad everything about this movie is a direct insult to the Resident Evil games. Damn even the old movies were better
Wish it was a bit longer with more character depth and make it more scarier like the games. But I would watch a sequel!
It's not perfect, and I don't like the erasure of certain characters backstories, but the sets were beyond gorgeous and it is clearly a Resident Evil movie for fans.
Tried to watch 2 times... Stopped once after 20 minutes... Stopped again after 45... Extremely boring movie
What should you do when you see somebody fire a rocket launcher at a monster 5 inches in front of you? Stay put and duck a bit, of course! WTF
Sorry, but really hated this one. I was hoping that as a horror movie fan and avid fan of the games, I would get something out of this film. Sadly, there were three points that really bothered me:
1). I'm a fan of the game and finished RE 1-5. Sure, there were some references to the game in the movie. However, the movie didn't follow the story of the game at all. I felt that lots of things were left out and it seemed they were in a rush to properly tell the story.
2). As a horror movie fan, I liked the style of the movie and in the first act I thought this movie might be good. Turns out that the dialogue is really bad and the characters weren't really making sense. Around the middle point of the movie, I really had to force myself to finish this one.
3). The pacing of the first act was proper, after that it feels like you get an hour to climb the mount everest. Because it felt so rushed, there's no tension building in this movie. The whole point of making a horror/action movie is that there needs to be tension and suspense and the audience needs to feel it.
Schlocky fun! It's essentially the first two games combined into this one film. It feels like watching a B-movie instead of blockbuster franchise and I mean it in a good way. This action horror delivers the campy goodness of the game and doesn't take itself too seriously. Most attempts at humor surprisingly work, it has fantastic set pieces that actually match the game which I highly appreciate, and the cheap-looking CGI in the end shows that they really commit to give this film B-movie feel from start to finish. Avan Jogia is great in this one! I can't really tell if he's really great or because I have a crush on him. Anyway, the atmosphere, soundtrack, and practical effects are all excellent. The future looks bright and I really hope they make a sequel.
too much other stuff and too less resident evil.
Yeah it’s real rough. Enjoyable in the sense I like horror, sci-fi etc. definitely not a good movie though. CG is the biggest letdown, can really tell they hit some budget limit there.
If the aim was to make an iteration worse than all previous releases then they were successful.
I grew up playing RE series over and over. I was also a fan of the previous series with Milla Jovovich (which was bad, but I liked it anyways because any RE movie is better than nothing).
I was hoping for something really good... I will not talk about the appearance of the characters and the visual similarities to the original (btw. casting was better in the previous one IMHO). I know we have times of tolerance and it is really modern to pick some Indian guy to play a guy (which is white in the RE series). Anyways, I expect the actor to behave the same as a character he is playing. I guess the director of this movie didn't play/see any of games.
This movie has couple things that are soo bad:
- acting which is totally different than you expect (knowing the series) - Leon is a pussy, Claire and Jill are clever bitches (they probably wanted to show that women are strong, but c'mon, you don't need to be a badass to be strong - Jill and Claire were strong in their own and cute way, here they destroyed these characters completely)
- I'm a fan, but my wife has never seen any RE game/movie, so she was confused about the virus (what T/G means, what about Umbrella, where is the whole lab, etc.)
- story is going so fast that they missed many things that would make this movie way better
- I would expect at least one, good boss fight (where is Mr X or Nemesis? I feel like this movies should be a series instead)
- they completely ignored important plots, instead they showed up some known places from the game, expecting it will be enough to make fans happy
When movie started I was happy seeing the man in the truck, because I thought "ohhh yeah, I was waiting for that movie"... But after that the stardust rubbed off...
It is entertaining, it seems like a video game, although some actors are the same, as expressionless as always. I expected more zombie stuff and less human stuff
Terrible writing, shoddy special effects, and boring action. How did this ever get made?
I enjoyed it. It’s not without its flaws. But it’s fun. And if the last resident evil movies could get sequels with that crap storm. Surely we can get one more of these.
This movie is very faithful to the older games (ie: Resident Evil 2). The police station's reception area, Clair's character etc., are on point. It's different from the Milla Jovovich movies for this very reason. This is clearly a reboot outside of those six movies. I've watched this movie a couple of times since it was released and enjoyed the experience. It deserves a higher rating than what you see here in Trakt.
Oh my god ... that was really really bad shudder As a RE-Game lover i didnt expect much but come on... how much can you fuck up a movie. I could have look over "some" storyline changes BUT there was nothing here which was right!
I mean starting from the actors (i love the actors for themselve) but come on, Leon is blond in the games (How hard can it be to dye your fucking hairs???) and dont even let me start on jill (you serious???)
But really the worst was the zombies.. unrealistic and low budged (look at the wesker mombie at the end). Really now we live in an era were GoT / Avatar and such were born... how hard could it be to animate a fucking horror monster?!
I should have done myself a favor and skip this crap...
Everything about this movie is off. It's not entertaining in any way and I struggled to finish watching. The characters are all so bland and boring. It's almost as if no one involved in this movie was really trying.
Absolute hot garbage. The original movies are cheezy but at least their watchable. This one just isn't good.
The action is meh. Zombies are meh. I mean they have a cop that doesnt even know how to hold a gun. The best part was the truck driver plowing down the road.
Save yourself 1.5 hours and watch something else.
In some parts this sticks closer to the originals than de Paul WS Anderson films, but this movie commits the sin of rewriting already told well-established stories to make it fit within its own narrative. The truck driver scene for example (from the beginning of RE2) is so iconic, and this movie sh*ts all over it making it something completely different. Or the Ben Bertolucci scene, which for whatever reason doesn't contain Mr X, it's just sad. Makes no sense at all and with all these changes neither does the overall narrative.
Jillsandwitch was funny - for gamers..misscast - jill, leon the fuck... ill miss mila stupid series :joy:
Not terrible if you watch it as a B grade horror flick with a bigger budget. The acting was mediocre to terrible though and none of the characters had much depth or growth. The set design was pretty good and the non CG was pretty spot on. It also had a few genuinely creepy and scary moments. I didn't think the CG was quite as terrible as some, but it definitely wasn't very good either.
you will start watching because it has RE in the title, you like Jogia or someone else in the cast, 5 minutes after it starts you'll be like "okay this is a mistake", 10 minutes later "can't do this anymore" you'll fast forward and be like "f*** this s*** glad i didn't waste my time on it". you'll move on with life not knowing what a bullet you dodged. this is the optimum turn of events that will save you time, money and a broken screen
From a strict perspective of a movies adept, of someone who never played Resident Evil, I've found the thriller ambiance realistic enough, but that's about it. Characters were very underdeveloped, to the point actors couldn't really show their talents on-screen. Very poor dialogues and interactions rendered me the feeling that the whole horror atmosphere was strongly and solely based on the (excess) of extremely loud noises - that often muffled actors' voices - and abrupt camera cuts.
The original Resident Evil movies had their (numerous) flaws, no question on that but, at least, when zapping channels, if unable to find something decent, one could/would end up returning to a somewhat bad, but solid rerun without thinking twice and that's something I don't see happening when this one makes to the TV. Not with me, at least.
First half felt pretty solid. Second half they tried to cheese it up to 10 and I didn't give any more fucks. Somewhat expected going in, but had a false sense of competence in the first act. 4.6.
What a fucking insult to the games this movie was. I cannot explain it better than that.
Holly F.. what a crap… trailers were very optimistic but it turned out into piece of garbage. Still better tan latest Matrix but crap.
This movie have no respect to the resident evil franchise and didn’t reflect any of it events accurately, trying to mix 3 games 3 stories in like hour and 40 minutes, well that didn’t work great, and also the movie didn’t present some characters accurately ripping off all their personalities especially Leon
It's a B-movie type thing with a lot of references to the original games, and it's extremely chaotic because they mashed the entire first two games into a single movie. I'd say it's worth watching if you're a fan of the games and want to constantly go "hey I know where that's from!"
What a shit movie, i gave it a go, but after 60min i was dune with it.
Game adaptations are placed between two options: copy or rebuild. Roberts chooses the first in this reset of the franchise. It is a strange and frustrating experience, like being a spectator of the game while others playing, with the director more concerned with including references and creating atmospheres than building a story. This effort to reproduce the survival horror experience is static, leading nowhere.
This should be on TV not theater.
You have to wonder about these directors who decide to do videogame movies. They seem to like the story enough to do a movie about them but not enough to stick to the basic plot beats of the game. I didn't really expect much from this movie so I wasn't that disappointed. I have no idea why they decided to try to cram several games into one movie instead of doing them one by one and making a franchise. And since this movie was only an hour and a half long they barely covered any of the events from any of the games and the spots they did cover felt extremely rushed. Now, having played the games they are far from being Shakespeare but the basic story they could have used is pretty good. On the positive side, a lot of the locations they used from the games look spot on and some of the actors actually look like the characters. Half of them were horribly cast though. And for some reason they made Leon a bumbling idiot. I wish they'd finally get somebody who was a fan of the source material to direct one of these movies. Overall, it had parts that were likable but it was mostly a shitty movie and horribly written.
The only thing I liked about this movie was the set design. The sets actually looked fairly convincing. I suppose the synth-y music wasn't that bad either.
The overall 80s slasher vibe could've worked, but the dialog is so awful, that most of the time I thought I was watching a tween drama. There's not a single good spoken line in the entire movie.
I almost turned it off during the first few minutes already, when all the characters addressed each other with their full names, because the creators of the movie think their audience is too stupid to learn their names naturally throughout the course of the movie. I almost forgot about that though until Ada showed up at the end and did the exact same thing. This is a little nitpicky though, I admit, but too many damn movies do this.
Overall, I suppose it almost looked the part but there's no substance to anything. The movie opens with a written paragraph about the current situation and ends with X-Files style on-screen computer text that comes out of nowhere. I give up...
I liked it a lot. Not as good as the trailer made it look but highly entertaining. I'm happy to keep this a standalone film but I'll happily watch a direct sequel too. Its a Resident Evil movie. Its supposed to be a little bad. Also Kaya as Claire looks gorgeous.
Eye wateringly dull.
every single CG effect lookslike it was made and composited in after effects 15 years ago. blood splatter on walls is worse than I've done on my own home movies .
the places where a jump scare should be are ruined by showing what's about to happen.
felt like it was going to go "assault on precinct 13", it didn't
checked director's previous stuff- oh they are also terrible, dull, scareless bores.
1 good shot of what seemed to be a well made gory face prosthetic
Probably something like this conservation happened.
Movie comments itself in last minutes. Hey! You ugly fuck!
this is a stand alone and great. Great zombies. characters
The Resident Evil franchise, while having a large fan base, has not been well-received in the film world. With the exception of a few decent scenes, the six Milla Jovovich-led films have been largely criticized. Johannes Roberts, a fan of the games, was given the challenging task of reinvigorating the franchise with his film, Welcome to Raccoon City. Although his intention was to please both hardcore fans and create an unsettling survival horror film, he failed to deliver on both counts. The movie is poor and fails to deliver any sense of terror or atmosphere. The cast, including Kaya Scodelario, tries their best but are hindered by a weak script and disjointed story. Additionally, the budget constraints are evident in the cheap-looking sets and subpar CGI. Welcome to Raccoon City had potential but ultimately falls short, even compared to the previous Resident Evil films.
I thought it would be easy to make a better Resident Evil film than the last series of movies we got but I digress. This film missed the mark for me. None of the characters had me rooting for them, tension was nonexistent, characters surviving explosions right in front of them, showing up with a rocket launcher at the right time out of thin air. I could go on but I’d rather put this one behind me.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City attempts to reboot the franchise and take the series in a darker and grittier direction. Based on the video games, the story follows a group of police officers as they investigate a mansion and come across a zombie outbreak. Starring Kaya Scodelario, Hannah John-Kamen, Neal McDonough, and Donal Logue, the cast isn’t too bad; though their performances are rather bland and lifeless. The storytelling is also pretty poor, as it’s often hard to follow what’s going on. And while the zombies look fairly gruesome, they’re not really all that scary. Bereft of the fun and adventure of Anderson’s original, Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City is a dull and monotonous film.
In my opinion it fulfills every requirement of a Resident Evil movie. It is an amalgamation of the games in ok story, gore, action and nostalgia, even in the bad CGI. It fits right in with the rest of the franchise and is enjoyable, no thinking required viewing. Set and props department did a good job too. It is what it is.
Well I cannot say that I I had high hopes for this movie but I have watched the other movies in the franchise and I am a bit of a sucker for horror/fantasy/science fiction movies. Especially if one can expect a decent amount of special effects and gore so…
It is not a great movie. Not even a good movie really but it is a half decent B-movie horror flick. It sure as hell is better than that woke piece of trash that Netflix has produced with their TV-show adaptation of the franchise but then that does not really say very much.
The story is rather non-existent and things just happen for no good reason. It is like the writer just took a bunch of zombie and monster encounters and threw them in a mixer to see what came out. Sure there is a resemblance of a background story there but it is not much.
We never get to know why the zombies escaped into Raccoon City, why the experiments where abandoned or anything else that might enlighten us as to why zombies pop up here and there all the time (apart from the fact that it is a Resident Evil movie and it is Raccoon City of course). There also seems to be a number of characters in the movie that knows a lot about what is actually going on but again, we never really get much of an explanation. I have understood that the movie is based on the story in the first three of the games so I guess those that have played them might understand the why’s better.
The main reason to watch this movie is the special effects, the gore and the action and this is best done with your brain in the off position. There are indeed some decent gory special effects and I have to say that the monsters in the later half of the movie was pretty okay.
I do miss Milla Jovovich though. There is not really any good kick-ass replacement for her although some of the characters tried. Also, for f… sake, will the dumbass Hollywood script writers ever going to stop putting stupid shit in the movies, like firing off bazookas and rocket launcher in confined spaces, say a train car. It doesn’t work unless the goal is to also kill the person firing it you morons!
One thing that annoyed me throughout the entire movie though is the fact that it is really dark. Sure it is a horror movie so some dark scenes is to be expected but the entire movie is really really dark. To the extent that it really is difficult to see what is going on for a lot of the movie. It might have worked in a cinema but on a TV-screen, even with the pretty good OLED that I have, it is really too dark.
So it was pretty much what I expected, a basic B-movie of the gore feast variety. Didn’t feel like I wasted my time but that is a positive as it gets.
0/10
This was bad and I mean off the charts bad. This ridiculous piece of shit should have never been made. This load of crap makes
Wonder Woman84
Look like a god damn Masterpiece, and it makes
Ms Marvel and She-Hulk
Look like it's on the next level
to
Avengers EndGame,
So for me to even see myself writing this down
Because believe me I should never see
Avengers EndGame and the bull-crap ww84 and
Ms Marvel/She-Hulk in the same conversation,
So This piece of crap movie has to be absolutely terrible like the worst thing I have seen this year and I have seen some rubbish but my god this was a spit
and a slap in the face at the same time.
I would rather submit myself to a prostate examination than ever watch this Garbage again.
This had to be a joke right....no.....
Welcome To Raccoon City...
Er no the would be
Goodbye To Raccoon City
because this Garbage
definitely belong in my
rear view mirror.
Surprisingly very good. I loved that they follow the old-school horror story line
"This will be like a game."
A sentence that arouses the fans of the Resident Evil game, which was finally disappointed.
The tension presented by this film is very okay, but unfortunately wrapped with a rushed story and the many deviations from the game.
Leon who should be a "hero" instead only gets a very little screen time and becomes a new kid who is completely useless.
Wesker who should be the most mysterious character instead become a police officer who has a secret, and pretentious.
After previously Resident Evil experienced a very bad deviation, coupled with this that had the "game" appendage, the Resident Evil franchise was not okay.
Ada Wong's very bad acting, a mysterious impression that cannot be obtained. And Wesker should be controlled, not vice versa.
When compared to the previous Resident Evil film. Honestly preferred before, because there were no "game" appendages.
Was it great? No. But was it so horrible as all the reviewers claimed? Also no. it's an average zombie movie, with a few nice scenes and a few bad ones. Mostly as said, average.
Better than Paul W S Anderson's fumbled efforts. Read my review here: https://www.thereviewgeek.com/residentevil-raccooncity-moviereview/
Leon and Jill, were casted wrong. The story is a mixture or the first 3 video games. It had potential to be a decent reboot, but it sucked overall.
Wow, I heard this movie was bad but I didn't expect it to be this bad. This one makes the Mila movies look like Oscar nominees. The script is all over the place and the acting is sooo bad. It would surprise me if this ever gets a sequel.
I wateched this movie with a friend of mine who played and completed all the video games series and had too much information about the scenes, characters and the story. He was really disappointed about the movies. Our take from this is that the director had too much material to play with and he added abit of everything just to have them in the story. The acting, CGI and the make of the movie was not as good as previous movies. The camera angles, closed shots and too many cutscenes were just aweful.
The whole movie I was waiting for Milla Jovovich cameo or some other characters from the original Resident Evil movie. But as the movie ended we were just disappointed.
One last thing, how the hell Jill Valentine's character suddenly became a black girl in this movie?
Quite disappointing. Was excited someone finally made a proper version of the game. Ended up being very poorly executed with the least convincing actors they could find and less than mediocre cgi.
So mediocre its not even funny
Wow that was bad. Makes me miss the old resident evil films. And they set it up for a sequel that I won't watch.
Is this a joke? Don’t play with me like that. Which one is the superhuman?
Wow. What a waste of time… this was way worse than the Milla J’s Resident Evil franchise. :person_facepalming:♂
Do yourself a favor and skip this crap, you’ll thank me later.
This is horrible. Some interesting cast but awful nevertheless.
just your run off the mill zombie horror, nothing ground breaking
All is shit about this lol even the effects lol and sountrack...actors...
wow! this is bad! very bad! resident evil people please stop this is it. please don't watch!!!
 x4
This is another case of the original being better - go watch that instead.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!
Also watch after the ending there are some extra scenes
Darker tones and actual scares, so pity about the one-dimensional characters and opportunities for real story missed. A mindless but fun way to pass 90 or so minutes.
Welcome to Raccoon City is a non-playable video game character because it goes through the motions but has no heart… or brains.
The main problem with Raccoon City is that it confuses setting with plot. The film takes place in dim tunnels and a dim mansion and a dim police station and a dim parking garage… whereas what the movie needs isn't cramped interiors but a sprawling landscape of chaos. A film based on the title would've been much more exciting -- and welcome.
Is it a good movie? No. Is it a fun movie? Yes, especially for RE fans, for good and bad reasons. On one hand, there’s affection for the source material. On the other, many of the changes are so silly they’re perfect to riff on. The mid credits scene made me laugh harder than maybe any other film this year.
Milla Jovovich read this shitty script and saw the cast and she was like "HELLO NO!"
Cast looks fine - although Hannah doesn't look like Jill at all...
This was way to much better and in the right direction. I mean the other Resident Evil movies that I have been hated since first movie that has noting to do with the games. This was way more that I wanted my Resident Evil movie! And no it's maybe not the best movie of the year but according to all the rights of this movie against all wrongs about the old forgotten bad Resident Evil movies. This was at least for me nostalgic, a flashback filled Resident Evil movie with many rights and very little wrongs!
It's a shame that something that could have gone reaaaaally well, went the other way (spoilers ahead, probably. Will try to mark down the most obvious ones).
The good things: The scenarios are really well put and give a nice memory-lane trip to anyone who played the games. The RCPD precinct and the Spencer Mansion felt really game-like. Some of the cast are really well put, same as their oufits: Claire, Chris and Wesker shining on this side. The amount of easter eggs and throwbacks to the games are plenty, and tbh, a really nice touch (although, in most cases, unnecesary for the plot or even the scene).
Middle ground (the not so good-not so bad things): The amalgamn that they tend to do in this cases, trying to smooch 2 or 3 installments of a series in a single movie, doesn't really work. In this case, they put together a Frankestein-ish story between RE1 and RE2 that doesn't feel well developed in any way. Tbf, both games felt "rushed" story-wise, and you got to build the full picture as long as you keep playing and discovering things. Clearly, this can't be followed the same way in a movie, but still they could have made a better job with it. The music choices weren't always bad, but felt forced; kinda making the statement every 20 min or so that the story happens in '98 (don't know if it was the intention of it, but for me, it felt that way). The side characters weren't that bad, and taking count that in the games they don't receive that much spotlight, it's ok that they don't get the same "development" as the rest. The conjunction of VFX and practical effects was a nice touch, but it wasn't well made all the time. The truck explosion, for example, looked really bad and even cartoonish. Same with the zombie-dogs . I think that the practical effects shined more that the VFX, which felt cheap and bad overall.
The bad things: The rest of the cast, i cannot go over it; specially what they did to Leon. Both actors for Leon and Jill felt out of place in relation to their game counterparts. Tbh, even the Jill and Leon from the old Milla's movies were better, both outfit and cast-wise. And Leon being my favourite character from the RE universe, i can't past it. The dialogues and script were very flat and awkward (? at times (at some point it even felt bad on purpose). The story itself, felt rushed (of course) and the characters were not "likeable". As i said before, it was really packed with easter eggs, but most of the time it didn't make sense for the scene even (so wasn't always good to look at it); like the story of Lisa Trevor, that wasn't even scratched, or the inclusion of the Ashford twins without context. Most of the VFX (as i also said) was really bad (that final form Birkin was horrible ).
After all of this and how the movie ended, It could have been better. If they make a sequel, i hope they make a better work with it, but tbh, i won't be looking for it either. The movie is not that bad, but it had the potential to be soooo much better.
It’s what you would expect from a video game movie. It throws a few iconic scenes at you, but overall misses the mark. Wait until you can stream it for free and don’t expect much.
I want to know how Sony let Jeremy Bolt and Paul W.S. Anderson on as Executive Producers in yet another Resident Evil movie. I was actually excited for this one. It was somehow worse than the others.
The script was so weak, that even these well known actors couldn't pull off convincing scenes. It was like they tried so hard to perform their script, though they weren't given enough direction and I had the feeling that these actors and actresses were wondering "Why are we here?".
I knew it was going to be bad, but it was worse than I had thought it would be. What a joke.
I read the reviews, and all the reviews were bad. I have read bad reviews aboutawesome movies before, so this was not a big deal. Cant help but compare it to the other movies as well. Frist of all the begining of the movie was only alright, while the beginning of the first 3 and the last movie were completely awesome.
Then the stupidity started to set in, now for a stupid audience, this may be fine, but for myslef, I do not allow stupid to exist in my entertainment. Then we got the slow head turning of the zombie from the game, jumped out of my seat, thinking, its going to be better from this point. Somewhat after that, Micheal Bay started directing the film. I know, it wasnt actually Micheal Bay, but...well, I hate all Micheal Bay movies, a lot of vague action scenes, things popping up and blind shooting, fading lighting and all, it just got really bad for about the entire middle of the movie.
TBH, Im still in the middle of this thing, although it is getting MUCH better, only way to go is up. I will not review the rest, because of the spoilers issues. But it gets bad, very bad... especially the guy in the jail scene, they should have cut that entire scene.
Compliments for the visual implementation and the original Resident Evil feeling of the games.
Unfortunately, the film has no story, which makes it incredibly boring.
The lack of a story in combination with the original feeling and the faithful visual implementation makes everything seem like you've "seen it before" - but without any content.
The actors aren't really convincing either.
They also seem bored by the lack of a plot and the main actress only has one facial expression.
Even Anderson's interpretation offered much more.
Im a huge fan of the franchise, but i was very bored, and think, where is the history?
can't there be 1 solid resident evil movie adaption? lord please
Is this supposed to be the same universe as resident evil 2? If so, I'm slightly annoyed with the ethnicity change of Jill Valentine.
It was weird to see Hopper with normal size body :joy:
actually I expected nothing but enjoyed this movie very much. especially the dialogs. would watch again
The police Chief has the right idea, he's outta here. Haha
Couldn't wait for all of them to die so it would be over with!
THIS was the movie that made me want to watch the Resident Evil franchise, just so I could catch up and see this one. And I gotta tell ya, it wasn’t worth it so I’m glad I wanted to see the franchise anyway. Some of the effects were good some not so much. But overall a really poorly written movie
The only thing this had going for it, is that it was more like the games. Everything else was just meh.
Plot was simple, it follows a storyline of an orgin game, some good changes were made as well as some bad changes too, it was horror at times with less clichés and gore but it definitely kept me entertained til the very end
I liked the first couple of movies with Milla, i have never played the game. It is a glorify version of zombies with gore elements and creatures. as a movie it fails completely, stupid plot and stuff. The only reason i watch this is because the show Resident evil is starting and the promising point is that it will deal with the origin which is what we want. not another zombie show.
what a useless and silly character is that recruit Leon
Resident evil, or Biohazard, may be one of the biggest media franchise brand. It should not be connected to Resident Evil series with Mila Jovovitch.
That being said it is hard for me to rate that movie since I am fan of Paul W.S. Anderson's work. But comparing it with this is not a good idea. And I can just hope this movie is not a start of another movie series.
I am overall disappointed by this movie.
Probably would have give it a better score if it wasn’t for the awful CGI and bad actors… the story is ok… I guess they did it on budget… I once went to a zombie festival we’re the zombies were volunteers and to make a long story short they did a better job than this ones…
They tried to put a lot of a story on this one I guess that was one of the things why this one is weak but it’s also why we get lots of references from the game (fan service) except for Jill she doesn’t look like Jill at all…
Bad CGI gets worst by the ende of the movie… Really bad
The cow should a -1 but I think 5 is fair
You can't just make a frame by frame reproduction of the first game. It's not like the audience has a control pad!
They must have known this was bad when they were shooting it.
Kaya, you deserve better than this!
Maybe it's because I've seen the games, but this plot seemed rushed to me.
I guess I was expecting a good "boss fight" in the end but was disappointed.
Another weak adaptation. The film deserves top marks for its setting and for some game references, but regarding plot, it was a real disaster. The choice of actors was bad, except Kaya and Robbie, the others don't match the characters. The script didn't respect the chronological order of the real events, it was rushed and inconsistent, in short, the film had potential, but in the end, it totally disappointed.

The most accurate Resident Evil yet and no one likes it. It seems they prefer the crappy, shallow action flicks with Milla Jovovich over a genuine Resident Evil recreation.
