What an awful movie. The horrifying story of 2 lovers who refuse to close their bedroom door no matter what happens.
Not to mention the fact that we have to watch countless scenes of these 2 looking around for something the already know can't be seen as though they will spot it behind the shower curtain and a bad ending to top it all off. Steer clear of this movie unless you like movies where nothing happens until the last 10 minutes and then pretty much nothing happens in the final 10.
The movie starts slow but it gets better and the second half is pretty cool ...then comes the end ...and the end is realy bad!(−_−;)
Paranormal Activity (2007): 6.8/10 (Good)
There are some rough patches, but overall, it's not a bad film. “Paranormal Activity” is shot in a found footage format, with believable acting and some effective scares. The film brilliantly capitalizes on the concept that what's scariest isn't often what you see, but what you imagine, and it does so effectively. However, that is about all it has going for it; it is not really terrifying, the story is as ordinary as it possibly could be, and the conclusion leaves a lot to be desired. If you have some time to kill, you probably will not regret checking it out, but I personally don't think it's worth going out of one's way to do so.
While I agree with the majority of the comments here that say this movie is "boring", at the same time I found it interesting enough to keep my attention both times I've watched it. Yes, it's plodding; yes, it's boring; yes, very little of it makes any sense but seriously..."lock the bedroom door"? That's your solution to whatever is going on? That's about as brilliant as all of Micha's so-called "solutions". (By the way, he's an arrogant butthead and she's an idiot for staying with him when he obviously showed ZERO support for what she was having to deal with.) If you're reading this review, the best thing I can say about it is that it's not for everyone. Most of the time it's very boring (simply because nothing is happening), and when a couple things do happen, it makes very little sense. I give it credit for having an extremely creepy vibe to it, but I would stop short of calling it "scary". They did a great job making this feel "authentic" but you have to sit through an hour-and-a-half of "home videos" and I would stop short of saying it's actually worth it. Not enough happens to merit wasting that much time.
Not the best movie out there, but it must have been 'big' in 2007. The plot is predictable and nothing really happens in it. But it must be appreciated for the idea of shooting it with only 3 actors and a low budget camera (which of course was an innovation for the 2000s). It's a classic for a reason.
The actress that plays Katie is bad, I'm sorry.
I kept expecting something would happen to that bear the entire movie, but nope. Really good horror, I enjoyed it a lot.
Finally watched this today, and have to say: it was even worse than I expected. 1/10 rating. Wish I could give it a 0. I don't know how anybody got scared by this movie or found it thrilling. It was an hour and a half of boredom -- pure and complete boredom. The fact that low-effort crap like this gets incredible revenue is just sad.
I watched this movie a while ago and ever since this is my index for a bad movie. It has absolutely no content, you just see the same rooms over and over again without anything happening. I'm not the kind of person who dislikes a movie just because there isn't any action in it. But this movie has absolutely no content. You just see some people walking through some rooms talking a very few words and then at the end a 5-10 minutes szene with a little "action". If you stare at a wall for 86 minutes you'll probably be more amused than watching this film. I really can't think of any logical reason someone could actually like this film. Neither could I think of a reason you would be scared. This film stole 86 minutes of my life I'll never get back. If you haven't seen this film yet I would really suggest you don't watch it even if you can't say if a movie is bad or not if you haven't watched it yet. This movie is an complete waste of time. Don't watch it, you'll regret it. Hope it helps some people to not waste their precious time.
Watched this yesterday. Had trouble sleeping last night. Congratulations, "Paranormal Activity". Mission accomplished.

A better film than 'Alien', and that's probably my most based take.
Paranormal Activity, a found footage horror film, is an eerie and thrilling story about the demonic haunting of two students in San Diego. Despite its low budget of $15,000, the film was a box office success and it's not hard to see why. Using a home video camera and filming in the director's own house, the film creates a sense of realism and believability that adds to the fear factor. The technical and creative restraints used in the film, such as using a cinecam and improvised script, adds to the feeling of a real-life documentary. The performances of the lead actors, Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, are convincing and their chemistry adds to the realism of the film. Their relationship also becomes more interesting as the film goes on and adds to the thematic backbone of the film, which is about the balance of control. Overall, while the film isn't perfect, it's a strong entry into the found footage sub-genre and is best viewed with a group of friends.
it does capture the stupidity of humans perfectly
Having watched quite a lot of found footage films and liking the genre as a whole I have never once touched PA. In part due to the hype but also because it always looked quite boring. The movie's initial notoriety certainly influenced my viewing experience so I was more so impressed at the restraint they showed with it rather than finding it particularly scary but was ultimately also disappointed at how it all played out (are you really just going to stick to sleeping in the same bed with no additional precautions or even locking the doors..? the "mythology" was also terribly under baked.). Still, for FF this was serviceable and very representative of the formula ...
Everything except the end is boring but even though it's shocking it's also not making any sense
Paranormal Activity is a low-budget horror film that became a phenomenon. Using the found footage style, the film follows a young couple that buys a video camera in order to investigate bizarre occurrences that have been plaguing their house. The storytelling is excellent, and feels especially authentic. And, it does an amazing job at incrementally building the suspense and increasing the intensity of every scene. With blood chilling terrors and disturbing imagery, Paranormal Activity delivers an extraordinarily terrifying experience.
Even on a second watch, again around midnight, it scared the shit out of me. I don't have that with almost any film, but this one. DAMN, it just scares me.
I praise Oren Peli to do so much with so little, it works amazingly and it says something that it still creeps me out on a rewatch. I don't think many people can watch this and not be affected after. Now I won't watch this again for a couple of years. I want to sleep well again.
Rewatching this series in chronological order makes Micah is 100x more annoying knowing what I know now.
I don't get how that franchise became so popular. I've seen many bad horror movies, but none of them was that BORING. There's nothing remotely scary in the whole movie.
Stupidly made, boring and so, so not scary it almost literally pains me.
One of the worst films I've ever sat through.
WTF ? Is this a joke ? Because this is NOT an horror movie.
Only one "Peekaboo" at the end to make you jump on your seat, but that's all. Everything else is a joke.
boring stuff. thumbs down.

Most boring crap I've ever watched! Bet the sequels aren't any better.
