As a fan of the Chevy Case films I had low expectations but was pleasantly surprised how good this was!!! Some great laughs, a good story and Jon Hamm was perfect
Jon Hamm does a pretty good job playing Fletch - nice and irreverent like the character from the books. Unfortunately some of the other acting is not great, notably his gf that’s played by a Chilean actress that can’t act or do a proper Italian accent. The mystery aspect is also a bit weak. Overall had a fun time watching it and laughed several times. Definitely recommend it for anyone that likes the Mystery-Comedy genre…
Imagine that there is a community theater company in some small town in America and for their next production they have decided to take on one of the Fletch novels. The troup actually does a decent job with the production - the actors can believably say the lines and you get a whiff of the classic character played by Chevy Chase. And that's great, if you are expecting to see a community theater production of Fletch. On the big screen? Yikes. From Jon Hamm's quiet and uneventful portrayal of Fletch to Marcia Gay Harden sometimes putting on an accent, this movie is bad. Chase's portrayal of a greasy yet charismatic detective is the gold standard. To Hamm's credit he wasn't trying to do an imitation of Chase. The problem is something that I've thought of him for a long time: he has zero on-screen charisma. If you hear an interview with him he comes across as a smarty, funny and engaging guy. On the screen? Unless he is playing a stern character there is just nothing there. The editing surely didn't help - at times it felt like characters were having a conversation at two different times and they were spliced together. The whole thing was mediocre.

It seems more an episode of an American TV series than a fully fledged film. The comedy could trigger some laughter every now and then, but, really, using a Spanish actress to act an Italian lady and talk in Italian was not really an intelligent choice.
First half of the movie was a 10/10, but then it quickly went downhill and the ending was a typical Hollywood ending we've seen since the 1950s.. seriously can't anyone write a good ending? How hard can it be to stray from the usual cop out.
Plenty of laughs and very entertaining for the first half and so so for the rest. Too bad cause it could have been terrific.
7/10
While I appreciate this new Fletch movie might be closer in spirit to the source material than the Chevy Chase movies, I still thought it was disappointing. The script wasn't sharp or funny, the line delivery wasn't quite there, and the final product is a bit of a jumbled mess.
this was a ducking shietty movie
Whoever greenlit a third Fletch movie deserves an Oscar for whatever that would be. I loved it. Does nothing but add to the series.
Not bad, and it has its moments of good laughs, decent mystery. Overall, though, it mostly just made me want to watch Chevy Chase’s Fletch movies.
A rather silly and funny movie. Not my cup of tea.
A smart and funny movie with an amazing blend of humor and mystery

I don't know why but I just couldn't get into Confess, Fletch despite being well written and well acted. Jon Hamm is his usual charming self. I appreciate that he's version of the character is more charming and palatable than the Chevy Chase version. Though from memory the Chase version is far funnier. Fun supporting cast all playing into the heightened nature of the world. But as I said, it just didn't connect with me in the same way it appears to have done for others. But even still, not bad.
I had zero expectations for this and watched solely for Jon Hamm...and I am so glad I did. Easily one of the most entertaining flicks I've seen in quite some time. The comedy and wordplay are clever, the characters oddly quirky, and the interactions zippy. The plot is a bit meh, but is really a delivery mechanism for the oddball interplay between our cast of characters. I genuinely loved this from start to finish.
Like most of the girls I fell in love with in college, it spends more time trying to be cute than clever.
WOW that was charming. Jon Hamm fit in perfectly into the role that Chevy Chase made popular. Everyone is on point here but Marcia Gay Harden whose "italian woman" is only so-so. That's okay though because she has her own show right now called So Help Me Todd and her "WASP-y woman" is 100% on point.
A great mystery, classic humor. I feel like I'm watching Dirty Rotten Scoundrels or Beverly Hills Cop again.. or honestly.. just Fletch again because why not. I can't wait for more of this.
The writing however needs a touch up because for a main character Fletch doesn't really do much. That's fine for Inspector Clouseau (The Pink Panther) or Wallace Ritchie (The Man Who Knew Too Little) but he IS supposed to be an investigative journalist of some renown. In the end it doesn't amount to anything.
I went into this film virtually blind, knowing only that it was a who-done-it starring Jon Hamm. It seems the who-done-it genre has seen a resurgence of late, with two currently playing in theaters (this film and See How They Run (2022)). I suspect that the success of Knives Out (2019) has something to do with that, as I certainly was hoping this film would scratch the same itch as Daniel Craig's southern drawl detective film. While this film doesn't have quite the same vibe, I still loved it.
The biggest thing to point out is the comedy. I was surprised at how much I was laughing during the first half hour of this movie. The writing is clever and Jon Hamm is absolutely hilarious. Seeing his character bounce off of the consistently quirky ensemble cast leads to some fantastic scenes and exchanges. Detective Monroe and Griz in particular are consistently great. The flighty neighbor also provides an almost slapstick set piece and of course seeing Jon Hamm reunite with his Mad Men (2007) co-star John Slattery was a treat.
Regarding the who-done-it aspect, this film is not as clever as Knives Out (2019), but the mystery was compelling enough to keep me invested, and seeing Fletch problem solve was just another opportunity for comedy. I will say that the ending was a tad underwhelming, but nothing so problematic as to detract from the rest.
As a side note, I didn't learn that Fletch was a pre-existing character until after I saw this film. While I may go back and watch the Chevy Chase originals, I suspect that going into this one blind actually contributed to my enjoyment, as recycled jokes/ideas landed as fresh for me, rather than nostalgia bait callbacks.
:heart:x6
I suppose this is an acceptable reboot for the current generation. I still prefer the original Fletch movies with Chevy Chase. Although Jon Hamm does do a fairly decent job as Fletch.
How I rate:
1-3  = seriously! don't waste your time
4-6  = you may or may not enjoy this
7-8  = I expect you will like this too
9-10  = movies and TV shows I really love!

For anybody who likes the books, this is kind of great. The Chevy Chase Fletch movies are good Chevy Chase movies, but this is a good Fletch movie. Jon Hamm is wonderful.
