The Best :medal: show I have ever seen. Great love to all the staff. Still can't believe BCS lost to the squid game.
Where is walter white?
Great show -- if all the episodes were released at once, I wouldn't sleep ;-)
One of the best TV shows out there. The screenplay writers are some of the best. Character development at the highest quality. This is why this needs to be a TV show and not a movie, you need time to develop a character.
I like this show just as much as Breaking Bad. BB had a better story, and better characters, and better lead acting, but only by a small, small margin. Cranston and Paul gave two of the best performances I've ever seen, but Odenkirk and Seehorn are barely a step behind. Mando is great, McKean is fantastic, and Tony Dalton in seasons 4 and 5 is one of the five best performances from either show. The story and characters don't undergo as dramatic of transformations as Breaking Bad, and there's some story beats that feel the same as Breaking Bad because the shows are really the same at the core. But even with these caveats, as small as they are, Better Call Saul is better scripted and much stronger visually, enough to put it on par with Breaking Bad in my mind.
Season 1: 9/10
Season 2: 9/10
Season 3: 10/10
Season 4: 10/10
Season 5: 10/10
10/10 overall one of my favourite shows
Do you know what I appreciate with this show, and especially with the creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould? The fact that they trust us, the viewers. They do not make things unnecessarily obvious, but rather plant small easter eggs from Breaking Bad and it is up to us to figure it out and make the connections. I believe that is what makes this show so incredibly well-made. Every time I rewatch an episode I find something new that gives the show and the characters of both Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad a whole other dimension. I have been on the edge of my seat for the entirety of this show. It really has been a pleasure watching it, and I fully believe that Better Call Saul is a worthy prequel of Breaking Bad. The characters are incredible, the dialogue is witty, the cinematography is so beautiful, the writing and plots are amazing. I feel like every single thing on this show - from the dialogue, to the props, to the colors, to the camera angles, everything - has been thought out and planned. Nothing has been left for chance. I am in awe. 10/10. A fantastic show.
It's 2022 why am I watching shows in black and white?!?
it's so sad no one reviewed it in here
such a great show
This show redefined what I consider good acting, especially the scenes between Chuck and Jimmy. The last season became extremely solemn, and it was crazy seeing Jimmy and Kim's true characters revealed once their oppositions (Howard and Chuck) were out of the picture.
Only half a season into breaking bad, so the spoilers in the final season were unwelcome, but I look forward to seeing Jimmy in another light.
A Good and well done series. Some would say the pace it's a bit slow. I personally didnt mind, It is apart of the feel of the show.
Cinemetography top of the notch. Pay attention to the visual themes, from wide shots that by themselfs show the feeleing they want to show.
The characthers are really something. It looks like you dont get to know fully the personality. Even Jimmy, that we know where he is going to end up, we feel like we're finally understanding, episode by episode how he got there.
Kim and jimmy relationship is also something that intrigues me.
Stopped watching after season one. Too. Fucking. Slow.
With Breaking Bad over and Fargo between seasons, this is probably the best show on television. Bob Odenkirk reprises his role as "Slipping Jimmy" better known as Saul Goodman from Breaking Bad. He brings a lot of new depth to the character in this underdog origin story and is in my opinion, a far more sympathetic character than Walter White of Breaking Bad. Mike Ehrmantraut(Johnathan Banks) is back and is as cool and savvy as ever.
Excellent show that captures the brilliance of Breaking Bad yet at the same time feels unique, exciting, and you don't need Walter White or Jesse Pinkman to make this good. It's great without them. Not that I wouldn't say no to a cameo, though.
When a prequel doesn't constantly remind you that it is a prequel of the original show, it deserves appreciation. Especially if the original show is Breaking Bad.
Absolutely crazy that they made the BB spin-off the best romance of all time but alas
just finished this series :sob: very good characters, awesome acting and great scenery. gonna miss Jimmy and the gang
Series Rating: 9.6/10
Better Call Saul did what I thought was an impossible task and actually rivaled BB in terms of quality and as one of the best shows ever. I'd have to rewatch BB in order to fully determine how close it comes to it, but all I can say for now is that BCS is impeccably made on a technical level while having some of the absolute best character arcs put forth on TV. It's amazing that even though we go into the show knowing pretty much where Jimmy McGill is going to be by the end, it doesn't take away from how gripping watching his story play out is. Much of that is thanks to Bob Odenkirk's masterful performance, but it's also thanks to the writing and getting to see the ways in which Jimmy falls further and further into his Saul Goodman persona. The entire show is fleshed out with characters that rival Jimmy in terms of writing and acting, some of which we get for just a few seasons and others are along for the entire ride with him. His relationship with Kim is full of so much depth and Kim has her own spectacular arc throughout the series that is her own but also related to Jimmy's beautifully. The other side of the show largely centers on Mike's involvement with the Salamancas and Gus Fring, and this side provides a lot of the entertainment value but also doesn't short change its characters -- Mike and Nacho are fantastic. And all of the supporting characters (Chuck, Howard, Gus, Lalo, etc) are used so well within the story, fully fleshing this show out with characters that both cross over with BB but also its own characters, and all of them are executed so well. BCS is a show about the origin of Saul Goodman and Jimmy's descent into that persona, but it's also a show about decisions. About the decisions you make and the paths those decisions set you on, and how you react to and deal with the consequences of where those paths bring you. While we see Jimmy ultimately sink further and further until eventually completely embodying the Saul Goodman we see in BB, the show picks us up for four final episodes post-BB to show us what ultimately becomes of him, and these episodes provide a different arc for Saul. Whereas Jimmy descended into Saul, Saul ascends back into Jimmy. He can't undo what he has done, and because of the decisions he's made he is set on a path that can only end badly for him, but in the end he finally musters up the courage to embrace who he is to his core and take responsibility for those decisions he has made, both in BCS and in BB. Jimmy McGill is very much a tragic character, yet in the end Saul Goodman finds victory in a deep and meaningful way. Truly some of the best TV you can watch.
Interesting journey, but the end was cowardly and even inconsistent with all of Saul's development.
jimmy is on the mount rushmore of television characters. what a special experience that truly sticks the landing
It's no easy feat becoming a worthy spinoff for a show as acclaimed as Breaking Bad, but they pulled it off big time.
So great just like his Daddy Breaking Bad.Worth the watch,no doubt and I'm definitely gonna give it a second watch another time.Enjoy!
Hi, I’m Saul Goodman. Did you know that you have rights? The Constitution says you do. And so do I. I believe that until proven guilty, every man, woman, and child in this country is innocent. And that’s why I fight for you, Albuquerque! Better call Saul!
I always have a little grin on my face when Saul does his thing… one of the best shows out there!
A masterpiece. From start to finish
It was a great show for 5 seasons. Solid 9/10. After watching the 6th one, I honestly don't think anything out there compares any more.
9.5/10 overall for me.
What do I do now?!?
Wonderful performances, well written characters and awesome cinematography. Less action than in BB. It's more like a study of character. It's great. I dare to say, I liked it better than BB.
Worth every minute even if you didn't watched Breaking Bad (then it will make you want it).
Oh boy! That was one hell of a drama, and what's wild is that it was a spinoff that worked! That's unheard of. Better Call Saul was a worthy successor to Breaking Bad, which managed to be its own show and delve deeper into the criminal underworld of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Personally, I do believe Breaking Bad to be the better series, however, this does rival it at moments even creating some tense and edge-of-your-seat moments. Honestly, the Emmy's should reward the series Best Drama next year when it'll be eligible for the terrific six episodes. When flashier shows from the past decade disappointed me, I'd usually tune into this knowing I'd be watching a quality drama. Honestly choosing not to go into the Breaking Bad timeline immediately benefited the series, Jimmy McGill's story was one that was equally as tragic as Walter White's making it more dreadful to know such a persona would have their world fall apart.
Here's my ranking of the seasons
Season 6: It's still fresh in my memory but the last half ended up being some of the best TV I'd seen in years, even turning out to be the best thing I'd seen in 2022. It never drags and the slow black and white chapters are gorgeous and melancholic to their core, particularly the series finale. Even the arrival of Jesse and Walter are treated delicately and not in a distracting manner, it's Saul's show. Also, the exits here are brutal, showing how this story was already coming to a close.
Season 5: The penultimate season laid the groundwork for where this series would hear for the climactic and brilliant fifth and final season. Jimmy McGill is gone and Saul is in his infancy. Jimmy's world finally begins to meld with the drug one that we'd seen in Breaking Bad. "Bagman" and "Something Unforgivable" demonstrates this the most. Also, this is when Lalo Salamanca establishes himself as one of the best characters in this world.
Season 3: McGill vs McGill, seeing the two brothers at each other's throats created one of the tensest seasons of TV. We also get the introduction of Gus Fring. Pretty much when the show felt like it finally grew wings and was able to create its own identity and see what made it tick. Peter Gould also took the reins, and the results are glorious. There's also the tragic exit of Chuck McGill, which created a stirring season finale.
Season 4: Doesn't compare to the others, Jimmy isn't a lawyer but his detachment from Kim begins to show which hints at the inevitable deterioration of this relationship. However, on the crime side, Mike finally gets some terrific moments with the creation of the super meth lab in Breaking Bad.
Season 1: A solid season of TV that really showed the character of Saul had a lot more layers than what we saw in Breaking Bad. Some great revelations (particularly Chuck being the reason Saul never got a job at HMM). Jonathan Banks also gives the performance of his career in the solo episode. Anyways, the series has some amazing mini-arcs that would demonstrate what the show does best when the crime isn't boiling.
Season 2: It feels more like an extension of Season 1. Gilligan and company felt too shy about delving too soon into the Breaking Bad world, however, it doesn't do much justice to Mike, while Jimmy gets into some solid con jobs and henceforth but still, entertaining and hilarious.
Anyways, I'm gonna miss this series. Peter Gould and the company did something special! In a time of big IP TV, this managed to outdo all the CGI fare and remind viewers how the best stories are crafted in such simple ways. Definitely one of the best dramas to hit the small screen.
This is one those shows that you'll binge on when it's done and you can, it's that good. A great story about the biggest crook and sketchiest person in Breaking Bad who really ends up being a good hearted and kind guy.
I have a hard time finding anything truly wrong with this show except there's too few episodes!
Was quickly hooked on the show. Saul Goodman was an entertaining character in Breaking Bad, but I couldn't have guessed he'd have this much depth and be such a fantastic lead. BCS is an exceptional character study that shows the gradual development of all the people carrying the action in it. Several Breaking Bad characters make an appearance, though they are never shoehorned in. Fan service is not once forced and always carries the story. BCS functions as its standalone show, although there are just a few moments that knowledge of Breaking Bad would explain.
The show balances all its moments, from one comedic end of the emotional spectrum to the other, tragic one, in a great manner. It's absolutely hillarious and utterly devastating when it decides to be. Witty writing and outstanding acting allow them to do so and bring the series to a level of immersion where each scene is memorable and to be savoured. The magnificient cinematography further enhances these aspects. Each shot is carefully placed and visually impressive. The music selection is great and gives new layers to the story. I was very impressed by some of the original tracks too.
What separates Better Call Saul from just any show is the complex interconnected plotting and subtle character development. Not one minute in the series is pointless, everything builds up to something. Everybody has their own motivations, reasoning, personality. Present are themes such as the road of crime having no option of turning back, moral degradation, naivette and many, many more. Examining the layers of storytelling here will net many results, but this would be nothing if the pacing and general mood set didn't carry it forward.
There's a lot to say about Better Call Saul, but summing it up is, in a sense, too easy. There's nothing wrong with it, but much great stuff that it has to offer. It has cemented its place as a favourite series of mine alongside its parent show. I can't wait for the final season!
Season 1 was slow, but I've gotten back in it recently and I'm much happier. Getting to see the beginnings of Mike and Fring's association is AWESOME. Push past season 1 and it does get better.
It is just the greatest show.
I love this guy and Mike both. Amazing spinoff series.
I love that show. Second best show, afther Breaking Bad, on TV/VoD. The producers are geniuses, i hope they will do more shows together. Forget Game of Thrones, forget The Walking Dead, this is the real greatest show on TV at the moment.
The best spinoff out there!
A riveting show with a deceivingly leisurely pace, that has each scene leaving your heart racing and your bum on the edge of the seat!
Started this only because it brings back Breaking Bad's memories for me but I really liked it!
Cant wait for the next season :)
The best spinoff out there!
An absolute gem and a stunning prequel to the iconic Breaking Bad. As a fan of the original series, I had high expectations, and this spin-off did not disappoint. The show brilliantly delves into the backstory of Saul Goodman, the morally flexible lawyer we all loved from Breaking Bad, and turns him into a fully fleshed-out character with depth and complexity. Bob Odenkirk's portrayal of Jimmy McGill, the man who eventually becomes Saul, is excellent. He flawlessly captures Jimmy's transformation from a struggling attorney to the cunning and quick-witted lawyer we came to know in Breaking Bad. The plot is incredibly well-crafted and addictive. Each episode adds a layer of intrigue, leaving you eager to watch the next one. The way the series seamlessly weaves in connections to Breaking Bad is brilliant, and it deepens the overall experience for fans of the original show. Personally, Better Call Saul is one of my all-time favorite series. If you're a fan of Breaking Bad, be prepared to binge-watch.
This is one of the best tv show based on other tv show. Not as aggressive as Breaking Bad, but just perfect in their own way
Why does this show keep getting renamed to something in Russian?
Never thought I’d say it but I like this more than Breaking Bad.
This series is a lot of things to me but if I can call it one thing it's a love story. The best love story I've ever witnessed. I also love how the show focuses on the little things like smoking a cigarette or brushing teeth and makes them interesting and even tell a story through those things.
This is a love story!!!
its funny how overrated this show is. its soo slow talking and boring. totally not breaking bad. bb 100 times better. of is it because this show starts at season 2? because i cant even watch this show anymore?
Well this is an absolute masterpiece… the greatest tv show oat and probably will be for eternity :heart::heart:
Best spin off tv show I've watched.. is it better than breaking bad? No.
First 2/3 Seasons can be a bit slow burning for the majority of people but man when it starts to pop of...
It is finally over. Better Call Saul, the spinoff series happening in the breaking bad universe can hardly go anywhere near the greatness of breaking bad, probably because it is about everything and everyone else but the titular character Saul Goodman.
As the final episode came to an end, only two things remained in my mind. The brilliant camerawork and camera placements throughout this entire series, and the phenomenal portrayal of Kim Wexler by Rhea Seahorn. Nothing else will leave a lasting positive impact.
BCS tells the backstory of Saul Goodman, the flamboyant and charismatic lawyer from the breaking bad universe. It happens mostly in the 6-years before the events of Breaking Bad, which thankfully meant, they could not spin the yarn beyond 6 seasons. It starts well, largely thanks to the commanding presence of Michael McKean playing Chuck McGill. After the events of season 3, he does not return and the show goes all over the place. Parallel storylines spin up which, while being true to the breaking bad universe regarding drugs and cartels, are hardly related to Saul at that point; people take decisions out of character, and the show just goes downhill from there. The creators forcefully merge the two stories with a surprising shocking incident which keeps a sour taste till the very end of the series.
It was unfortunate that I lost touch with Saul. I was rooting for him in the early seasons. It was not easy to stand toe to toe against the towering personality of Chuck. So I let many of the slippin' Jimmy acts slide and continued to root for him. Saul's image from the Breaking Bad universe was always of a person who could bend the law and use it to his advantage. It was brilliant to watch him on screen. As soon as he started breaking the law directly, it started hitting the foundations of the character. After the Irene scam, he was a lost cause for me. I stopped caring about him entirely.
Some characters are outright bad. Yet, they have some code of their own. Till the very end of the show, I didn't understand Jimmy/Saul. It's my shortcoming or the creators were unsure about him too. Probably why the show veers deep into the cartel storyline, which at that point at least, is not strongly linked to Saul's arc.
After Chuck moves out of the series, it largely remained as a fan service. I know Gus Fring, Hector Salamanca and Mike Ehrmantraut from Breaking Bad. They were amazing and fans loved them. A large part of BCS is about these guys because the creators are unsure about what to do with Saul.
The only exception is Ignacio (Nacho) Varga. His arc is fabulous. He is a man of conscience. I felt his pain, I feel for him. His arc is a real tragedy of initial bad choices leading to life completely out of his control. Michael Mando does a tremendous job. His monologue near the end gave me goosebumps, and that was one of the highest points of the series for me. It's the arc they have done well and so they did not have to resort to flimsy chance encounters or surprises to add shock value. It simmers steadily until it reaches the boiling point and ends with him taking back control.
Chuck McGill, Kim Wexler, and Nacho are the heroes of Better Call Saul. While others waltzed onto the stage with their breaking bad clout, these guys made a place for themselves in my mind and that is what I take away from the show.
Better Call Saul, a show that was always going to be compared to it's predecessor from the start, had a hard time finding it's footing from the start. Not because it didn't know what it wanted, but because of the fact that it just couldn't seem to let go of the fact that it was birthed from Breaking Bad. The first season is stylish enough, with excellent and weird camera angles and editing choices and killer acting from the main cast (the Bob Odenkirk and Jonathan Banks chemistry, or even the lack thereof, is incredible), and it does a good job of wanting to be it's own, separate thing. It maintains this style from the beginning all the way to the end of the show, even getting weirder and riskier with how it shows things (A cold open involving a bunch of ants swarming an ice cream cone comes to mind) but with this show being a prequel to Breaking Bad, we already know that it's going to be different in style to any other show out there right now, thank god!
It's these parts of Better Call Saul that make this a show more than worth watching, and I'd call it a necessary watch if you want to see the best that television has to offer, right behind something like Breaking Bad. It knows that it can't really exist without Breaking Bad, but it also knows that it can and wants to be it's own thing. Jimmy McGill doesn't go through the same transformation (or, I guess, even reveal) that Walter White goes through, at least not in a conscious way, and the illustration of that is shown in Better Call Saul just as elegantly and dramatically as Breaking Bad. Bob Odenkirk goes above and beyond to sell the tragedy of the fall of Jimmy McGill, the Rise of Saul Goodman... and then the rise of Gene Takavic, as well. Every cast member really does give it their all in ways that only the people who made Breaking Bad could get their actors to give, and it makes the show that much better, that much more tragic, and that much more shocking.
While I personally feel the show takes a bit too much time to get to the points it wants to get to (I promise I'm not a hater of slowburn, quite the opposite), I still feel that the slow, methodical approach is entirely necessary for a show like this. For the first three seasons it's practically a legal series! So much lawyer jargon and the drama behind that, and it's fucking awesome, if not slow. I really like those aspects a lot, and only don't like them a little bit!
There's also a really good sort of tying in that happens by the end of the series, where Mike and Jimmy first sort of mingle and then go their separate ways, kind of. To me, it feels like it signifies this sort of uphill battle where both Mike and Jimmy try to go their own ways for their own purposes, Mike's born of helping his family (he's still not a good guy!) and Jimmy's born of wealth and power, which eventually comes to a head with the introduction of Lalo and Howard Hamlin's death, where we see how both Jimmy (Now Saul) and Mike deal with it... and how Kim does as well.
The show is about corruption, poison, and how it can just tear at what you love... very similar to Breaking Bad!
I don't really know what else to say now, thank you for reading my rambling words lol. Watch these shows!
It started great. I loved the first 3 seasons but after chuck died it went downhill. Seasons 4, 5 and a large portion of 6 have no reason to exist, they were boring and the writing took a complete nosedive during them, they just kept pulling scams over and over and over and so on, we saw enough scams in the first 3 seasons. Could the writers not come up with something new? I think this show should have only been 3 seasons long, there was no need to stretch it out just because amc wanted money. Anyone who claims this show is "Perfect" is an idiot. Breaking Bad was better in everyway but above all it was better in the most important way: consistency. It never started to feel old half way through like this did.
I am not crazy! I know he swapped those numbers. I knew it was 1216. One after Magna Carta. As if I could ever make such a mistake. Never. Never! I just – I just couldn’t prove it. He covered his tracks, he got that idiot at the copy shop to lie for him. You think this is something? You think this is bad? This? This chicanery? He’s done worse. That billboard! Are you telling me that a man just happens to fall like that? No! He orchestrated it! Jimmy! He defecated through a sunroof! And I saved him! And I shouldn’t have. I took him into my own firm! What was I thinking? He’ll never change. He’ll never change! Ever since he was 9, always the same! Couldn’t keep his hands out of the cash drawer! But not our Jimmy! Couldn’t be precious Jimmy! Stealing them blind! And HE gets to be a lawyer? What a sick joke! I should’ve stopped him when I had the chance!
…And you, you have to stop him! You
This is the Greatest show I have ever watched. Keeps me hooked every second.
A mixed bag: brilliant in recontextualizing the character of Saul (and at times Mike) and introducing new characters who quickly became my favorites; but often tedious and heavy-handed when it comes to setting up the events of Breaking Bad (do we really need a backstory and explanation for everything?). I wish the two halves of the story would have been married more organically or the cartel shenanigans minimized as much as possible to leave room for more shady lawyer stuff with Jimmy. The slow, meandering pacing also got tiresome at certain points. Despite this, it is impressive for a show like this to barely suffer from prequel syndrome. I still don't agree that it is better than Breaking Bad, though. Both shows are successful in being their own thing, and that is all good, man.
If Breaking Bad was a slow burn, this show is even more of one. I feel like the last season alone could fill two, maybe three seasons. Still, the show kept me hooked, but in an entirely different way to its predecessor, giving incredible depth to Saul/Jimmy as a character.
Breaking Bad is without a doubt the best TV series of them all. Sometimes it's like a Grand Theft Auto game come to life, other times a Coen Brothers or Martin Scorsese film. It’s just so engaging and well made, with incredible performances and many surprises in the plot. The prequel series Better Call Saul is the same level of quality, though even more character driven and deliberately paced than BB. It was great how they were able to get so much of the same team and returning actors back to fill out this world.
Better Call Saul began more comedic in the first couple seasons, but the masterful middle seasons ratchet up the drama and tension, managing to practically rival the greatness of BB. The first and final seasons are a bit inconsistent, but the show pulls it all together for the conclusion and gives Saul Goodman and Kim Wexler a fitting, poignant, and bittersweet ending. While not as perfect or exciting as Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul is a fantastic series and strengthens Breaking Bad on retrospect, with both series and the El Camino film adding up to an epic, depthful, perfect crime saga.
Breaking Bad: 10/10
Better Call Saul 9/10
A different take on Breaking Bad. In lieu of the fast-paced action and remarkable plotting and acting, Better Call Saul is a well-written slow burn. It explores characters deeply with numerous engaging plotlines. Saul is one hell of a choice for a spin-off. A slow descent to moral ambiguity packed with symbolism and minutiae. I'd recommend it to most people, however, don't go in expecting another _Breaking Bad.
Breaking Bad is my favorite show of all time. The closest thing to perfection from start to finish that has ever existed will likely ever exist. When Saul gets a spin off, I need to see it. I wanted full Saul shenanigans out the gate, and more or less continue where Breaking Bad left off. That's not what we get. Not even close. Instead, the slate is wiped entirely clean. The pacing, a full 180. It took nearly 5 seasons to get "Saul". And this journey was fully worth every second. Much like Breaking Bad, it slowly builds to a better and better state with each passing episode and eventually leads to the greatest final season it could be.
This show is not what I wanted, but it is what I needed as a Breaking Bad fan. I can easily see this being the preferred show for a very large group of fans.
Average Season Review: 8.5/10
Recommendation - Must See (for Breaking Bad Fans)
Best spin-off I've ever seen. Almost better than Breaking Bad.
About as close to perfection as television has ever gotten, there is not a single frame of this show that I don't love. Every shot is like a painting, in that it tells a profound story just by looking at it. Cinematography really will never be this good again. I remember on my first watch of this show, I had conflicted feelings by the end. But wow, do those go away on a second watch. There is so much meaningful reincorporation of elements they set up even as far back as the pilot, and it makes the rewatch all the better for it. Knowing what happens and where the story ends up leaves subsequent watches feeling like solving a puzzle, as you discover all the little details that have payoff later on. The genius of this though, is that on a first watch it's also like a puzzle, just in a completely different way. On your first watch, the entire time you're wondering in the back of your head where these characters are going to end up knowing what happens in breaking bad. Will Kim live? Does Nacho get out of the game? Does Saul end up on top? All these questions are running through your head like clockwork while watching. That's not even mentioning how killer the soundtrack is, like wow. Dave Porter can seriously do no wrong, and the licensed songs are all great. The only element of this show I could even consider weak is the pacing, which makes a first watch just a tad of a slog. But it really is a non-issue on subsequent watches and it felt very worth it even by the end of my first watch. While I will always love Breaking Bad, this is easily my favorite of the two. No other show has ever profoundly impacted and impressed me the way Better Call Saul has. No amount of words can really express how perfect this show is, not only does it profoundly enhance many of the characters and plotlines in Breaking Bad, but it stands on its own not only as a prequel, but as a piece of art. To everyone who worked on this show, thank you.
Amazing spin of for sure on of the greatest i have ever seen. Not one of my favourite tv shows but i really enjoyed it and the characters building was once more exceptional. 8.5/10
Everything about this show is amazing .. before I watched it I said that it can’t be that good it’s a spin-off but only then I realised it is a definition of a perfectly well executed show … 10/10 !
[Movistar+] There are shows that are part of the history of television, and this is a bridge between the golden age and the birth of streaming. A long journey that has built a universe of deeply human characters and therefore eminently imperfect. A forceful reflection on morality and ethics, but also on repentance. It is not possible to change the past, but at least it is possible to accept the consequences.
"Breaking Bad" became a legend as one of the most masterfully crafted TV shows in recent history. "Better Call Saul" shows off even better production value, with some of the best cinematography, direction, and writing to bless television. Yet, I doubt it will satisfy the fans' craving for more "Breaking Bas", as it’s much slower and way more low-key, subtly suggesting things rather than spelling them out for the audience. The first two seasons follow Saul’s first steps as a lawyer, and it’s all about character study. Then from the third season, Gilligan and Gould lost to the temptation of throwing in as many “Breaking Bad” characters and references as possible, becoming a full-fledged prequel to the series more than a show about Saul. This made fans interested again, but I always thought that “Better Call Saul” should have stayed an independent show unless when strictly necessary. I honestly started getting a little bored in season four, but things suddenly got much more compelling in season five. That's probably the best in the whole series, or at least the one that kept me on the edge of my seat the longest. I wasn’t much interested in Lalo’s character (or in the Cartel for that matter) at first, but once he starts to get real loco, he becomes such a great addition to the story. It’s also the season that sees Jimmy finally becoming the Saul we knew. The final season betrays all expectations again, and instead of picking up from where the fifth ended, it goes the opposite direction and comes back on Saul’s usual pranks. Then there are three or four episodes in the middle where the plot finally moves forward all of a sudden. It’s a rather weird season that continuously makes you wonder where the hell the show was heading, but once the ending came in, it all made sense. After all, it’s a show that always used vertical “filler” episodes to expand on the characters and finally connect to the main plot much later in the story. Some changes in heart in the last episode felt a little too sudden after all the time spent carefully fleshing out Saul’s character, but it was a satisfying ending nevertheless.
The title is wrong, It should be better call Mike. Don't get me wrong i love Mike ... but the show isn't about Saul at all ... It's about how the characters of Breaking bad got to where they were in breaking bad.
Lots of very positive reviews so it's clear a lot of people really liked the show but for me it was just OK. Goes without saying I suppose that it would never live up to Breaking Bad but the first 3, maybe 4, seasons were OK but even then some of the episodes were really slow. Seasons 5 & 6 though were just boring for me, especially season 6. Felt I was really just watching it for the sake of it by this time, the whole Saul and Kim vs Howard story just didn't really have any wow factor at all and I just found myself waiting for something interesting to happen. I'm glad it's over really, not sure I could have endured another season, as it is, it should have ended at episode 9 IMO, after that the show was just bleeding out to a very anti-climactic ending. I'd give the first few seasons a 7 with a 3 max for the last two, for an enrage of a generous 6.
What an ending. BSC really stuck the landing. I have to admit I like this ending a bit more than BB.
I held off on commenting on the show until I completely finished it. Many consider this show better than BB and I vehemently disagree. Breaking bad is the superior show without question. I don’t think there could be a BCS without a BB. Sure it’s a standalone series, but the big punches and surprises were all flavored with our BB knowledge. Standing on the shoulders of BB storylines and characters.
That said this is a mostly fantastic show. A phenomenal cast and great writing as you’d expect from Gillian/Gould. If you like BB you’ll enjoy this show.
Now I know this will likely get me lampooned in most forums, but I disliked so much of Saul’s storylines. Not disliked more than I found it completely boooooooooooring. There were some redeeming moments and Bob O is a fantastic actor and truly great in this role, but overall if he wasn’t with the cartel I wasn’t interested. It was cool getting to learn his origin story, but they easily could have shortened the series. For real - I wanted to quit watching it until a good way through season 3. YES HES FUNNY. YES THERE WERE SOME FUN SCENES. YES ITS COOL TO LEARN HIS MOTIVATION. NOOO WE DID NOT NEED THREE SEASONS WORTH OF NOTHING BUT OLD PEOPLE AND BORING LAW FIRM DRAMA. WE DIDNT NEED IT YALL!!! We especially didn’t need as many scenes with him at fucking Cinnabon. I kept waiting for the interesting bits to start and I feel like I watched five seasons to really enjoy the sixth. So credit where credit is due on that. Season 6 was pretty phenomenal.
After watching the series and seeing the cartels roots, I’ll also say that it’s pretty embarrassing at how easily a HIGH SCHOOL CHEMISTRY TEACHER was able to fuck up the cartels entire fucking operation. Like god damn. Cartels have to be more organized than this, no???? How’d someone with no criminal experience actually command this much respect and inflict that much damage!? That was the biggest disservice to BB done by BCS.
Now the best part of this show was Mike E, Nacho, and the cartel. Holy fuck every bit of that was entertaining and fun! I was excited every time we got characters from BB back on screen. I audible yelled EEEEEEEEE when Hank and Gomey were on screen. The truly shining stars of the series are Jonathan Banks followed by Michael Mando.
Overall you should watch this show, but don’t come here with any of that BCS is better than BB bullshit. Still a fantastic watch and you can basically skip any scene where he’s talking with old people and sitting in a fucking lawyers boardroom.
Liked the show but there were big parts of it that just didn't really work for me. the brothers phobia, the slow pace with elements that were not really related to the process of getting to BB. The mob stuff was all good, Gus and Mike were great, although Mikes age was a bit of an issue. final season just seemed a bit off and scattered on where they were going.
Awesome show! Love every second of it.
Cucumber water for customers only!
I fucking love this show! What a show!Worth every bit.Enjoy this masterpiece somebody who's asking whether to watch or not
The greatest to ever do it :goat::goat::goat::goat::goat:
Two black and white episodes in a row? Stop it already it's not 1945!
Great!!!I mean impressive!!What a show!Hope this will be the best spinoff of Breaking Bad.Wow,just wow!Bob Odenkirk nailed it
Just like breaking bad i dont want this show to end.
Unlike Breaking Bad which was gripping from the start, BSS is more of a slow burn that becomes more compelling with each episode. As it stands now it will likely go down as an all-time great TV show, assuming it sticks the landing.
This has to be the best spin off ever made.
A little less exciting than Breaking Bad, I thought the first two seasons dragged on and had some boring bits - but Seasons 4 - 5 are pretty great
It's not Breaking Bad, but it's got the same spirit (and that great slow pacing). The story is considerably more upbeat, but it still has its dark moments. While one might think a spinoff for a show as close to perfect as Breaking Bad could only worsen its legacy because nothing will come close it, Better Call Saul eradicates any doubt. It almost feels as if Breaking Bad was originally written with this show in mind, and maybe it was. It adds even more to it, and I can't imagine anyone loving Breaking Bad and not also at least really liking Better Call Saul. We get a lot of the same characters, written, directed and edited by the same people.
Six years before Saul Goodman meets Walter White. We meet him when the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and, often, against Jimmy, is "fixer" Mike Ehrmantraut. The series tracks Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer." INTJ Type Interest: Dark Comedy, Criminal.
The sound mix on this is fantastic. All the subtle queues that put you in the place of the characters. Amazing.
It just works.
So good.

Normally it is hard to capture the essence of how great a show or movie is in a prequel story because it isn't the original but Saul is still fantastic and season 5 ending with Nacho's rox glass in the frame as Lado looks sets up a great hanger into season 6
I am loving this show!
It falls in line, in creative excellence and artistry story telling as well as massively entertaining characters that we are used to in Breaking Bad.
If you liked Breaking Bad you cannot go past this brilliance from the talent that brought us BB.
These later seasons are turning from gold to platinum. If you haven't watched this show yet, stop everything, and binge watch it till you catch up!
This really is a phenomenal show. Such a strong, confident vision behind each episode, and so beautifully shot.
You want more and more with each episode! That's how good of a spinoff this is!
I really tried to like this show. It's too slow of a burn for me. I couldn't make it through the 6th episode before calling the quits.
The latest is not up to the expected standard, I hope it improves.
A beautiful and quiet episode — and a good season 8/10
Definitely filled a void after Breaking Bad ended.
Lawyer shit bores me, heck who doesn't get bored? But I never thought that this will grip me until the end!
Can't wait for more!! I love it more than Breaking Bad and Vince Gilligan is GOD.
Simply the best spin-off series I've ever watched.
Amazing show. Gripping viewing. Great writing & acting. Slow burning, but fast becoming a show for the ages. Odenkirk's character, Jimmy, will stay with you for life. Dare I say it, better than Breaking Bad.

I was so happy when this started to come out at the ending of breaking bad.
Brilliant story line, brilliant acting, brilliant directing and production! Some of the scenes in this show are brilliant. Its not super fast paced but thats the style of producer Vince Gilligan. He truly is a perfectionist. I really hope he does another BB spin off in the future, maybe just called Fring or "The Chicken Brothers" ? could be fun.
Really struggling to get invested with the characters in this spin off... Even the plot is like dragging out and doesn't know what it wants to do with its self.
With so many dead ends I really have to force myself just to keep watching this show... Come one, give me some pay off.. I don't care about Jimmy's two faced brother, I dont care about his Skylar like GF... Give me SOMETHING, ANYTHING that makes me think... "Yep, just as good as Breaking bad.".

Fantastic show, though I don't agree with people who say it's better than Breaking Bad. I guess you could argue that it's more masterfully crafted and put together, but Breaking Bad is still infinitely more compelling IMO. There's no contest. The final two seasons of Better Call Saul are the only ones that I'd personally put on the same level as Breaking Bad. Still, it was a fantastic show and I highly recommend it.
